I figured that a good place to gain a couple quick levels before the Marsh Cave would be to take a little walk up to the Peninsula of Power with some Red Fangs, get a pre-emptive strike against 9 Frost Wolves, etc.
Another difference is that the GBA version is notably easier than the SNES one after the beginning part..the last boss changes also.
I know this game someone well, after having played through it once on SNES and twice on GBA. I'm considering attempting it once my FF1 DoS is finished (it's on hold at the moment).
One more thing that makes this different from R/B.. I believe in yellow, you level more slowly(takes more exp to level).
I remember discovering this as a kid, but it was a long time ago so I'm not so sure now. Could someone test it?
I came across what I believe will save a small amount of time..I don't have the rom so I can't test it myself, but maybe someone here can give it a try.
In the Morph Moth stage, when you use the charged S. Wheel shot to clear the blocks to get to the Armor Upgrade, you clear both rows of blocks (attempted a little keyboard art here..failed miserably).
In your run, you destroy all of them (there are 10 - 2 columns and 5 rows), and it also lags as you destroy them (I'm assuming from the animations of the destroyed blocks. Not sure though - don't have the rom).
However, if you were to destroy just 1 column of blocks using the charged S.Wheel, X can still hop down the tiny passage on the left/right (on whatever side you decide to do it). Assuming that the blocks being destroyed + all the other stuff on the screen is causing the lag, less blocks destroyed at the time = less lag, and its also faster to climb the wall in in the small passage on the way back up from getting the armor upgrade only 1 column is destroyed.
It's not a hoax. Someone took a video using a camera on their GBA of it being abused - it's on the forum I can no longer find. Secondly, it can possibly be done with absolutely any shaman class character(I think).
One more thing - by using the control the enemy glitch, you can get any character in the game levels in dark magic.
Giving Myrrh something like Wretched Air when using this glitch makes her INCREDIBLY powerful, although I can only see that as useful for the last stage..but useful nonetheless.
Seeing someone unexpectedly take advantage of an amusing glitch is one of my favorite things about watching these. For example, nitsuja in his Sonic 3 & Knuckles run.
Excellently done. I played this game once a long time ago..but only up to when Gades is defeated. I got a new computer after that and didn't wanna play up to that point all over again.
But again, well done.
If you're trying an MMBN 2 run, I'm quite experienced with the game, I'd be happy to help.
You can manipulate GMD right? You could get some good chips for PAs off of that, without having to fight too many viruses.
Hah, thanks :)
How did you activate that glitch? It happened for me once I defeated the Metalman Doc Robot in Sparkman 2, but sliding cancelled it.
I'm just making assumptions right now, but I doubt it would carry through stages, and I think it has to be when a boss fight doesn't end a stage.
EDIT: I should probably mention that when I began moving faster, Megaman wasn't jumping any higher than normal, but he covered roughly twice as much horizontal distance with one jump.
I was approximately half a screen from him, we were both in the air when he was killed, and I hadn't taken a hit at all. He was on the right side of the screen(he hadn't made any jumps across the screen at all) and I was a little bit left from dead center.
I hope some of that helps, I don't have the game on emulator but I'll see what I can find on the console version, as I'm still playing now.
I may have found a trick for you to use.
I'm playing the console version just now, and I noticed an interesting little glitch after defeating MetalMan in the second Sparkman stage. After defeating him, Megaman was running much faster than normal(faster then sliding) and jumping alot farther than normal, but he resumed running at normal speed after I slid once. I never left the MetalMan fight room cause I was fooling around with this until I slid, but if it would matter any I killed him with the Magnet Missile and I was in the air when I made the final hit.
Lots of items like that, such as fangs and curtains, can be won from the ship game, but I'll have to do some testing to see if EmExits can be won as well.
The site you posted is information for the NES version of FF1.
They changed the spell system in Dawn of Souls, and I believe a Red Mage is capable of picking up Exit. However, it's a terrible waste of time anyway, seeing as I'll have to level him to 29 for him to be able to use it.
EDIT: I still have to class change to use it. Exit is definetly not worth it. However, the item "Emergency Exit" would be just as good, but as far as I know, I cannot get these off of the Ship game.
I've collected both of them. There is indeed 2. You can only get the one in Paul's stash before doing the cyclone, and you can't have gotten the wyvern yet. Get the key word cyclone and repeat it to Paul and he lets you in his secret stash.
