I got my levels mixed up. I beat it without a cape. I was talking about mushroom land 3.

Are you doing a 100% run? I liked your WIP so far, very nice. If you are doing a min percent exit, can you get the Key exit in Mt Eerie 2 (the one that requires a cape) using wall-jumps+shells? Could this potentially change some routes? (I'm not sure, I haven't completed the whole game).

Can the trick be done without Naryu's Love? Or does the staircase get in the way, or do you not have enough time to superslide?

I just watched your wip. Great job Comicalflop and Huffers!! I don't know the game physics any more than the next guy, so I doubt I can really help. I can offer moral support, though :D.

We often use other versions of roms (1.0 vs 1.1 vs 1.2) because they potentially could have more glitches (like OOT). If the (E) version is fater, I begrudgingly say we should use it. I don't like it, and I wouldn't use it myself, but sometimes you gotta make sacrifices. Also, it's purely up to the runners. If they still want to use the (U) ROM, their run shouldn't be rejected because they used that version.

I downloaded the non-glitched run, and found it a bit boring, but I refrained from voting because it was already published. I told myself, I needed to give this movie a chance. I saw it, and giggled like a little schoolgirl. A yes vote.

I'd rather see a walkthrough of how to beat every exit the intended way, because I'm sure some levels (read: jimsfriend and fort house) can be beaten in other ways. Also, are you sure there are no capes at ALL (I'm not talking about unreachable capes) in the first few worlds? If there is an unreachable cape (you need a cape to reach it), then it would be awesome if one could reach it.

Another reason to TAS this game: (too bad this message won't show up in a potential TAS).

*Head Asplodes* FYI, sprites are part of graphics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprite_%28computer_graphics%29 Read the title of that article, HG.

If I recall correctly, the first TSRP was never widely known, and it had BRAND NEW sprites. So there goes that theory. also flamebait

Great wip, I really liked how you squeezed Goron rolling wherever possible, it really speeds up the game. Don't beat yourself up about not being able to skip the skullkid cutscene in less bombchus, I doubt anyone cares. Here's to hoping that the game becomes less desyncable... and keep up the good work!

Does scrolling the screen (using L or R) help with the positioning of the feather when you run-slide as small mario?

Wow... just wow. If you really want someone to TAS the game, do you think that attitude would convince someone. In fact it would probably make someone less likely to TAS the game. You got 2 or 3 test runs (1 from an acomplished SDW TASer) and 1 equally as impressive run (jaysmad doesn't have cred yet :(). Both authors have conceded that this game is not meant for TASing, along with 2 other acomplished SMW TASers (Fabian and JXQ), and countless of others inputs... The majority feels that this game should not be TASed, so it's doubtful that this game would even get published even if a suitable TAS was made. So I'm sorry, not many people here are willing to TAS this game. If you want a job done, ask someone to do it. If you want a job done right, do it yourself.

I figured as much. It's used in a lot of educational institutes. So your assembly knowledge encompasses what I know, and probably exceeds mine, as you seem to be a CS oriented student. I leaned more towards the Electrical Engineering side, but boolean logic, and cpu design is still a very important class for us EEs. *CoughCoughVerilogCoughCough* I don't know crap about compilers itself, and have a slight familiarity with interpreters (made a MIPS interpreter in C, and a SCHEME interpreter in SCHEME (bootstrapping)). But I hear that compilers completely differ from interpreters! :D. Good luck with your endeavor, I probably cannot be of further assistance, but I can provide you with moral support ;).

Writing a compiler for any modern language brings about a lot of issues that you don't need to consider when writing an emulator. Much more important is to understand how a CPU works, i.e. assembler programming. If you are newbie at that, search for 8051 CPU specs (as far as I know, it is the most common microprocessor teaching subject), and get a simulator for it and play with it a bit. Perhaps some basic information on what to expect, would be useful too...
MIPS R2000 is commonly used in a lot of educational institutions. You can use SPIM (both unix/windows) to simulate it. A good book I recommend is "Computer Organization and Design" by David Patterson and John Hennessy. You could also look at some useful webcasts: http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses/archive.php?seriesid=1906978272 and/or lectures that complement the webcasts: http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cs61c/sp06/ (sroll down to weeks 4-5) You could also try out our MIPS project on for size, I still have a semi-working solution in notepad... The final solution was submitted, and then lost on an institutional machine :(...
