People here seem to be knowledgable about console hardware etc. so I thought this is as good a place to ask as any. I have a SFC cart of star ocean and was going to use a game genie as a passthrough to play it on my snes (it works with tales of phantasia and i assume 99% of other SFC carts). Star Ocean plays, but displays mostly vertical white lines :( . I assume this has to do with the S-DD1 chip which was only used in it and SF alpha 2. I want to know if.. 1. this is indeed because of the S-DD1 chip and the cart isn't defective or something 2. Will using a gamesaver instead, or filing down the tabs on my console to fit SFC carts to play it directly fix this?

what? http://imgur.com/kN1KMPL thought it was on my end/would fix if i just refreshed the page, but it's still doing that for me. I know it's the beginning of unix time or something, but why only those forum sections and not the others i wonder?

why does the description say you need to use left + right to get the glitch beams?... "It's possible, by using Left and Right together, to select glitchy beam combinations with a wide variety of (usually bad) side effects"

It's great to see these skips. Does the game allow you to skip chapters 3 and 4 like that and just give you the Star Spirits and party members you skipped?
no, it doesn't give you partners/star spirits. you have to partially play through the chapters to get the partners if theyre necessary.

yah you can get 2 stars in 1 trip ( i played by myself :( and switched controllers) and got both lil penguin lost and the first slide star in CCM at the same time. some coins and enemies and stuff unload if you're too far away from each other though so you can't just totally diverge into 2 different stars/ split 100 coin routes into 2 opposite directions.

Unloading the Deku Tree area as child link is simple and has been known for a long while. The best way to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDmlCoC_g_0&feature=plcp&context=C487de35VDvjVQa1PpcFN6OrKCkjXcKhAW1YECGJ4_g7GQUFwpJX4%3D this could be one way to do the whole thing. but like I wrote in my long text already, if we did Deku Tree as child, we couldn't do Dodongo's Cavern as child as well, because beating all 3 child dungeons (jabu jabu has to be beaten as child) forces us to watch the ganondorf cutscenes in front of the market. Not beating Dodongo's Cavern would cost a lot of time due to not having bombs for quite a long time. Something about the idea to just grab bombs as child without beating DC and only beating jabu as child: The warp from Deku Tree to Dodongo's Cavern would barely save any time as Adult, because we are pretty close to Dodongo's Cavern after beating Shadow Temple any way. Cutscene Skipping in DC, Deku Tree and Fire Temple always means doing the Wrong Warp as well. There's no way to the CS skips without getting the warp, so whenever we beat DC we'd have to warp to GTG. This means, that beating Dodongo's Cavern can't really be combined with going to Fire Temple or Magic. You could only do it the other way around, but because Fire Temple warps us to Forest Temple, this wouldn't be really practical.
You probably already know this/its probably been mentioned, and just didn't mention it because it's unintuitive to do, just making sure. After you wrong warp if you kill yourself again it will bring you back to the original place, so you could go DC> GTG, back to DC entrance, though I doubt that'll be done in the fastest possible route.

so i doubt this is useful, or not already known, but i've never seen it before. I was practicing superslides/ESS's in hyrule field and clipped/fell OoB when i ESSd in the corner of the fence and lon lon ranch facing lake hylia's direction. which i thought might be useful because it instantly warped me back to just outside kakariko, but i really doubt its useful. Only thought about it being useful is where a death warp would screw up B-button stuff.

I can agree with the sentiment that an any% no RBA run should be the 'categoryless' one, and an RBA run (ganonless or not) should be "glitched", but by no means should ganonless and RBA without it be separate.

You guys are a riot sometimes. Seeing the end credits = beating the game. This doesn't change just because you want to see the final boss beaten or feel such an ending is anti-climatic. This warping shouldn't be a separate run either. It's as much a "major" glitch as RBA is, and so it should fall under the any% category. As others have been saying, if you want to see a more complete run, watch an all dungeons run. There's no use clogging the site with uselessly arbitrary categories, otherwise we'll have stupidity like "All dungeons, no RBA, uses warps, acquires 13 skultulas, puts mask of truth on B".
Couldn't have put it better myself. I don't think I've ever watched a recorded(non-live) run beyond the LACS, because from there on is boring natural route(bar trials skip) and cutscenes. This new route has gameplay and wtf factor right up to the last input. I also think that since the best route seems to use the LACS to BA FW on B, it would be clear to any viewer that it would be possible to go up to ganon and kill him/thats what is expected. If people wanted to watch dungeons/the final fight, they'd probably watch the all dungeons TAS anyway. The only thing that's kind of sad is that Trials skip isn't used in any category now xD.

you mean after ganondorf, just getting behind a wall and falling to the loading zone of the castle collapse scene?

true. I forgot about the whole going through walls thing >_<. The idea of navigation at potentially infinite speeds screamed TAS to me, but I didn't think about how you can just point at the end and hold down.

This game is hilariously bad and gllitchy, but I think the infinite speed in reverse would be interesting TASd. Though you need to avoid the game thinking you've won when you start the race >_<.

Portal flash would be great. I discovered some sequence breaks and going through walls shenanigans in a playthrough of it a couple months back.

A group of friends and I were playing this game and noticed it picks up wrong answers as correct ones. We put ozzy osbourne and it gave us credit for george burnes. we put tongue, and it gave us credit for toe. A thought crossed my mind that something like the brain age TAS could be done with this game with things like that. Though it's just an idea, I don't think it's worth the effort for someone to actually do it though, unless theres an easy way to know how the game interprets your responses.

Can someone help me out to watch this? when I try to watch the WIP it desyncs right at the beginning(clearly doesn't press start as soon as possible or scroll through opening text very fast), and never leaves the name entry screen. (this is on 1.52) I've tried like 10 versions of 1.51, but they all say the movie isn't compatible with the version. The newest 1.52 is the only one it plays on at all, and it gets that desync.

Can't wait for PS2 TAS's for Star Ocean 3. A TAS or a godly SS is the only way to abuse the 300% exp bonus/ it'd be awesome to see a battle chain go throughout the entire game.

I don't know if its faster, but you can pretty much just roll through the first two levels... (recorded non TAS just to demonstrate) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1853951803/Congo%27s%20Caper%20%28U%29.smv This also helps in the ghost levels.

You basically need the gilded sword because you need the third bottle for pinnacle rock. Also, (at least in a speedrun), twinmold would almost require green potions without it. It might be skippable in a TAS though.

Ya, I did the ranch successfully, finally. Does anyone know why the goron race is so random/inconsistent? I've won with a time of about 1:30, and lost with a time of 1:09... ???

Ya, its around 3:50. I was estimating from the fact that I was at the ranch at 3:25. I had slowed down time in my head when i made that estimate, I forgot how much faster regular time is. Edit: Can someone tell me what order to shoot the aliens? I thought I took care of them all and they still took the barn.

I was just doing attempt for that segment in my run and found that the latest you can arrive is somewhere between 3:25 and 3:30. At somewhere around 3:35 they took the barn.
