The saveram in question is using the vba next core. I would like to convert it to a form that can be used by vba link 1.8.0beta edit: on a related note, will bizhawk ever support wired/wireless link cable emulation of portable systems, as well as netplay for all platforms?

How do I delete SaveRAM headers so that I can run the sram on other emulators? Conversely, how do I add such headers to non-headered sram files? I'm pretty sure a hex editor is required for this process...

if it works correctly in an emulator, by definition correct = same as real hardware
No. What would you say about all the smw and sm64 hacks that work fine on less accurate emulators that don't work on real hardware? Thus, Master of Puppet's question is better. @adelikat: I think the hack works fine in FCEUX, but I can't test it atm.

On running the SMB1 romhack Rohrleitung Gate, I noticed some problems with the background. Note that this video is not meant to show skill, and I do abuse the backwards function. Also, this video uses quicknes, but the same problems appear without it. Also, this is running on my windows partition, not linux with wine. Link to video

I ran lsnes in order to watch an lsmv and had the same can't speed up problem. Maybe there is an issue with vsync.

How do I know if vsync is forced?

I'm sorry for not answering your questions. It was late at night. vsync was off. When I put it on, things went on just like you said. Switching to gdi+ from opengl causes extreme lag.

I'm running Bizhawk on wine. I had 3 issues. The first was that the sound was crackling. This was solved by switching from directsound to openal. The second was that the xfce panel, which I have set to resemble the windows start menu, is still visible in fullscreen mode. Not much of a problem, as I can ignore it easily. The third problem, however, is the one I want to talk about. For some reason the emulator refuses to go above 100% speed. Slowing down works, and rewind works, but I can't go turbo or whatever. Do you have any suggestions? The game I am running is an NES game using the quicknes core.

I have another question. How do I save the controller configuration? Escape does nothing. Alt-F4 does nothing. F12 takes screenshots. The only way I can close it is through clicking on the x or using the task manager, neither saves anything. What am I doing wrong?

Mednafen supports several different systems. This may be a dumb question, but does TASvideos support Mednafen for all systems or only specific ones?

I noticed that TASvideos supports both FCEUX and Bizhawk. Is there any advantage for using one or the other for specific games? I noted a similar thread on the snes side, and am curious with the nes side of things.

This isn't tas related at all but... When I try to use games that need the family keyboard, fceux wants me to use scroll lock... which my wireless keyboard lacks. It doesn't help that you can't change the value from scroll lock without (maybe) editing the source code. What do I do?

There was a modified version of snes9x that showed every mistake that the user made while re-recording. A video for that modified emulator can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2OytHzZ72Y. But I'm pretty sure you already know of this. So why am I posting this again? I thought I saw something similar for fceux a while ago and I want it. Wasn't it a lua script or something? I want to make a video with that kind of technology with a game hack for the NES. What's it's name? I have no idea, so i guess "Super Mario Bros. 3 (E) [h2].nes" will have to do. The hack contains levels loosely based of the vanilla ones, however it's a lot more challenging. I don't think it's kaizo hard, but it's pretty hard nonetheless. The video will probably be as funny as the one posted above, but I don't know how I can give the effect of the video. So where, if it exists, can I get this fceux mod? edit: I didn't post that video myself :P

I posted a new thread containing the following and was instructed to move it here: I had an idea. Why hasn't anybody created 2 player for SMB3 in fceux via lua? Mario would be on the top, luigi on the bottom. there are two modes, competitive/race and cooperative. in cooperative the bros help each other in the same level. In competitive its a race to the finish. If they both get to the end point at the same time then the mario bros minigame is triggered. Cooperative mode only mario is seen in the map screen, representing both bros. In Competitve mode they can be separate, and take different paths, but one has to wait for the other to choose where it would go, while the one goes its own way (so when they both meet up in the same area, for instance) In both modes, the bros can rearrange blocks, similar to the vs mode in smb deluxe (gbc, not the snes hack for smw) In competitive mode there is a timer counting up for both players. If a different version is required for Reuben version, then it will be created. I have no experience with lua, but im asking if this is possible.

StackHorizontal I'm afraid you'll have to consult google for alot of these things, but StackHorizontal(movie1.avi,movie2.avi) in a text file renamed to have the extension ".avs" might help. You may have to do some other stuff also, I don't remember. you can open the avs in VirtualDub and save it to whatever avi you want.

:/ I'm not trying to insult you, but I checked google and I couldn't find out how to use that perticular code in plain english. StackHorizontal for Dummies anyone?

I downloaded the modified emulator and I want to know how to use splitscreen mode (Has unmodified video on left, modified on right). I found a patch made by Bisqwit for it. I want to know if I need the patch for Splitscreen mode or not. If so or if not but the patch makes it easier, how do you apply it and after that, how do you activate splitscreen? If not and it doesn't help anything, how do you activate splitscreen?
