What do we learn from this? Don't get a girlfriend.
Actually, we learn that real life is nothing like the TV says it is. In the end the girl did nothing wrong. HE created the whole situation. He saw things were going bad and could have taken back control or even jumped out of it and escaped safe and unharmed, but was too scared of losing the precious girl and never finding someone so perfect again. Do you think any girl would respect a guy who acts like that?
Let us not forget the warning signs, such as them getting married (something like) two days after they started dating, her abandoning her family as a result, etc, etc. This was a ridiculous drama shit show from the start. I am tempted to lock this thread, as TASVideos isn't the place to air personal drama.

after watching the damage (U) run, versus the (mostly) no-damage (J) run, I actually prefer the (U) run. #1, the clever end to the (U) run was unexpected. #2, the damage taking felt like better planning. However, I appear to be in the minority. I'll leave this a day or two more, to see if any other opinions pop-up.

Can anyone explain this in easy to understand language? In the decades after the discovery of general relativity it was realized that general relativity is incompatible with quantum mechanics.[16] It is possible to describe gravity in the framework of quantum field theory like the other fundamental forces, such that the attractive force of gravity arises due to exchange of virtual gravitons, in the same way as the electromagnetic force arises from exchange of virtual photons.[17][18] This reproduces general relativity in the classical limit. However, this approach fails at short distances of the order of the Planck length,[16] where a more complete theory of quantum gravity (or a new approach to quantum mechanics) is required. Many believe the complete theory to be string theory,[19] or more currently M-theory, and, on the other hand, it may be a background independent theory such as loop quantum gravity or causal dynamical triangulation.

Usually, yes, but in this case it is clear there is a language barrier. p4wn3r and I are attempting to explain things to him better. Also, people have been complaining that I'm heavy-handed in my moderation/administration, so I'm trying to scale it back. New accounts by him are banned, however.

FYI he actually isn't banned, just prevented from making submissions, which he is circumventing by creating new accounts.

I watched it, and totally think it is submittable. However, I have a few questions/suggestions. First, health management - early in the game, it seems like you could get more health, to help you walk through flames, since jumping clearly takes extra frames (apparently, the Rocketeer's momentum stops mid jump. Newton cries.) Also, perhaps turn off the rocket every 8th frame to conserve fuel? If the rocket only runs for 7 of 8 frames, would that work? Finally, you jump a couple times in the crates/factory level (near the end, 5 maybe) for seemingly no reason. That level seemed a little sloppy, when the rest of the TAS seemed so clean.

Personally I'd prefer one publication where each possible frame has been shaved off, than three publications with one frame improvement each... (In other words, this constant submission updating doesn't bother me at all.)
Oh, it doesn't bother me. I'm just making a joke of it.

Warp is spot on. We have no responsibility to allow people who negatively impact the site to continue using the site, and will do everything within our power to prevent them from doing so.
[22:36] <Xkeeper4400> Anyway, as for acknowledging I was an asshole: Um. Duh? I thought that was the whole point. [22:36] <Xkeeper4400> Of course I was an asshole. [22:37] <Xkeeper4400> Anyway, sorry for being an asshole. Maybe one day you can change tasvideos policies so that it doesn't have to go to that. who knows.
I think this comment by the person in question makes it clear enough to me. #1, He intended to be an asshole. Do we, as a community, want people who have every intention of being an asshole? Do the administrators have the right to remove people who are consistently negative to a community? #2, He states that it is not his fault that he is an asshole, it is clearly the policies of the site. Is there really no other option? The idea that he is not at fault at all reminds me far too much of this. Perhaps it is just because I was reading about it last night. #3, He obviously has no interest in changing his behavior, since it is in no way his fault he is an asshole on a routine basis, it is the site's fault.

This just isn't my cup of tea. I watched it, but I saw nothing other than spastic movement. Perhaps I just don't know Smash Bros, but I didn't really find anything enjoyable. Meh vote.

I'd say that using bonus content for prior saves wouldn't really be a "pure" run of the game any more, but that's just my opinion, and I don't hold it that strongly. I could definitely see room for a dual-game TAS, though. The example that leaps to mind is Oracle of Ages / Oracle of Seasons, where a continuing game gets a slightly different plot and a new endgame section.
As I've said before, the only reason to have SRAM, Codes, etc, is to add content, like Derakon's example. Simply making the game easier is not the point of the site.

1. Yes. 2. They are kept secret until the contest starts. Hence why suggestions in the thread are ignored. 3. You said you wouldn't participate if the platform choice didn't suit you. I can't have you ditching a team because of that. 4. ???

I'm quite aware of what NESbot does. It isn't controlling anything but the controller input. It should be regulating the temperature of the NES, leaving it disconnected for days so that the RAM settles down to a known value, starting the NES with a voltage ramp-up that gets its oscillators synchronized in the right way, etc. It's very hard to do all that on the actual hardware, yet necessary for consistent results. I need only point out that NESbot sometimes syncs and sometimes desyncs to prove that it's much more inaccurate than most TAS emulators. If it's getting different results from the same input, it's very inaccurate compared to most emulators, simple as that.
The temperature thing is crap - if it were true, the NES would act differently every time. I'll agree with the start-up issue, that is why it desyncs when starting so often - I thought about adding a debounce to the NES power button. However, once a game starts to sync, it syncs. (See my major fail at SGDQ). However, in this list Wiki: ConsoleVerificationTests you'll see a list of games with partial sync. Games in this category clearly desync due to emulator-NES inaccuracies. Mainly because they desync consistently in the same spot. That is the group I'd prefer to see be 'syncable' over fastest. TASers could easily work around the emu inaccuracies by testing.

Fastest, because otherwise we'd have to delete all our runs that aren't done on a NES. Runs should only be accepted if we have reason to believe that they could be syncable with future improvements to NESbot and similar projects (i.e. don't exploit emulator bugs). That's quite different from syncable with current technology...
This is a total straw-man. I didn't say that we'd only accept syncable runs, just that syncable runs would be preferred. Also, everyone is saying how inaccurate NESbot is, without really looking at the code or understanding how the thing works. There honestly is not much behind the NESbot, and most desyncs I'm sure are emulator/console inaccuracies. C'mon, all the thing has to do is get a latch and write the proper controls. It isn't rocket science.
