Are you seriously saying that I should have known in advance that a forum member would get offended by the use of the expression "as I described earlier" or by what he calls "question talking"? I have never seen anywhere, in any context, those things being considered "obnoxious" or offensive. Have you?
I think Lex did a pretty decent demonstration of why 'question-talking' can be considered obnoxious. But, I'll agree with you, it requires a general intuition to understand that it is obnoxious, there is no 'example' I can pull out of my ass to give you where it says "Don't talk like this if you want to be liked."

Or are you simply not wanting to concede me that point because of the "impromptu gang mentality" I described?
Concede what point? Do you want debate points? Here, you go, you win this debate, I lose. Now will you listen to me, please?

Agreement to what? We aren't signing a peace accord, this isn't a debate club. You wanted to know (or at least you said you wanted to know) why there seems to constantly be a gang mentality against you. This isn't the first time you've expressed the thought of gang mentality. There are 2 possibilities here: 1. We have secret meetings, where we nominated, and voted for you to be the forum whipping boy. 2. You don't understand the nuances of communication that others take for granted, and thus, everyone independently comes to the same conclusion, and tries to explain to you what they see wrong. Which do you honestly believe?

Sounds like good advice. The problem is that the appropriate "rules of behavior" seem to be completely arbitrary, made up on the spot, and impossible to predict in advance.
People with autism have social impairments and often lack the intuition about others that many people take for granted. Social cues exist, even on message boards. Notice that the 'group think' is mainly just that most people intuitively understand these cues. Now, I'm not diagnosing you with autism. However, that quote seems to encompass the numerous debates surrounding you.

Please also explain to me why the length of my posts is an issue. This is the umpteenth time that very thing has been brought up (it was mentioned in this thread). I have asked this very thing several times, and I don't remember anybody actually explaining it to me. Apparently people have a strange aversion to long posts, yet seem to be unable to explain why. It would be nice to know.
I considered answering this, as I'm one of those people who has commented in the past. However, you tend to meet criticism by entrenching yourself deeper in your defenses. You say "I want to know," but I already know the response to anything I post. #1, a staunch defense of your posting behavior. #2, no inner-reflection or introspection on whether or not I'm full of shit, or have a point. #3, no change in behavior. So, why should I bother?

Being talkative and explaining things in detail is a personality trait, and I have never heard of it being considered offensive. If you have a friend who likes to talk in length and go into detail about things, do you go and tell him "you talk too much, that's annoying"? I don't think that person would be your friend for long.
LOL, No, but that person tends not to get invited to parties, or people find an excuse to walk away from them. Generally, you don't need to tell them not to talk too much, because if they annoy you, you probably aren't hankering to be their friend. I don't know about you, but I try not to be friends with people who irritate me.

As far as tasing this goes, I'd rather see it run on the Sega CD, since that was the platform it was developed for.

antd - When fighting guard scorpion - you don't use lightning, which deals 88-92 damage, and instead wait for criticals, which only deal 80~ damage. Was there a reason for that? It seems like it might be easier to use lightning, which then allows you to manipulate Guard Scorpion at the same time.

A quick question - all of this seems to be based on the fact that youtube... sucks. Seriously, seriously, sucks. Is the only reason we focus on youtube is due to its popularity?

Trying to watch using the movie file (watching an encode is out of the question with my bandwith limit) and I keep desynching during Ifrit's fight, somehow the game gets paused and afterward it just modify the "vibration" setting. Would using a different BIOS then the one you used to create the TAS cause this, or some other settings? (I'm just running it with default option). If not, can someone post a savestate just after the ifrit fight please?
Are you using PSXjin v2.0.2? The BIOS could be an issue, but it probably wouldn't get that far. I don't remember ever hitting start, anywhere near that part - so it shouldn't ever show the pause screen.

This script does the Run/Walk step for me - I'm pretty sure it is always useful, given the menu trick. Download FF7RunWalk.lua
Language: lua

Danger = 0x0007173C; StepCounter = 0x0009D58E; StepID = 0x0009C540; CurDanger = memory.readword(Danger); State = savestate.create(); State2 = savestate.create(); joy = {}; joy2 = {}; flop = true; while true do if flop then savestate.save(State); else savestate.save(State2); end; flop = not flop; CurDanger = memory.readword(Danger); emu.frameadvance(); joy = joypad.get(1); if (memory.readword(Danger) > CurDanger) then prevDanger = memory.readword(Danger) - CurDanger; joy2 = {}; if (joy['up'] == true) then joy2['up'] = true; end; if (joy['down'] == true) then joy2['down'] = true; end; if (joy['left']== true) then joy2['left'] = true; end; if (joy['right']== true) then joy2['right'] = true; end; if not flop then savestate.load(State); else savestate.load(State2); end; joypad.set(1,joy2); emu.frameadvance(); joy2['x'] = true; joypad.set(1,joy2); emu.frameadvance(); newDanger = memory.readword(Danger) - CurDanger; if (prevDanger == newDanger) then joy2 = {}; if (joy['up'] == true) then joy2['up'] = true; end; if (joy['down'] == true) then joy2['down'] = true; end; if (joy['left']== true) then joy2['left'] = true; end; if (joy['right']== true) then joy2['right'] = true; end; if flop then savestate.load(State); else savestate.load(State2); end; joypad.set(1,joy2); emu.frameadvance(); joy2['x'] = true; joypad.set(1,joy2); emu.frameadvance(); newDanger = memory.readword(Danger) - CurDanger; end; CurDanger = memory.readword(Danger); print(string.format("+%d(%d)", newDanger, prevDanger)); elseif (memory.readword(Danger) < CurDanger) then CurDanger = memory.readword(Danger); end; end;

This bored me pretty quick. Combo moves are rather trivial in a TAS sense, if you know the game. I believe a decent fighting game needs some level of graphical glitching or obvious unintended actions to be publishable. Simply beating up the other player is akin to a run-right for justice movie.

Goood job on your first TAS, it looks like you did a decent job of optimizing it. However, the game choice is pretty bad - the scenes get very repetitive, fast. I voted no, but I encourage you to keep TASing.

Yes, yes, and very yes! Also, an explanation of how you use the menu glitch/battle avoidance would help - I noticed you don't always use the step-trick - likewise with the menu-trick. BrutalAI has supplied me with some memory addresses I was missing, I'm writing my walk script around those - It is much more annoying to use the step trick in FF7, since a step is about every 10 frames, unlike the every 30 frames in FF8.

That sounds like a good idea given if the judges actually do work instead pf procrastinate over everything in the Workbench.
What "procrastination" are you talking about? Things don't need to be judged RIGHT AFTER the 3 days expire. Most things get judged within the week. Sometimes, if things haven't gotten enough feedback, I let them sit longer.

Good idea, in fact, I could use some help writing a boiler template of "Welcome to the site, your submission doesn't meet our criteria, etc, here is what we aim for etc, your movie needs to beat X, please use the forum PM feature to contact me, link is at the bottom of the post." Any better writer than I willing to help?

I actually cancel it more due to our user base, than to the problem of having it in the queue. (In fact, I thought I locked this thread). The problem I see is that new users will continue to join the site and not understand how things work here. However, while some people post positive and helpful things, many people respond ridiculous comments like "Ban this user" or "Burn him alive for submitting this" (Ok, slight exaggeration, I know, but it gets the point across.) Additionally, these comments can reach 2-3 pages - whereas many serious submissions barely make 1 page of comments. I'd rather not allow so much negative attention be focused on one submission, since it only takes a single comment to explain what the user did wrong. 30 people showing up to essentially 'mini-mod' a submission is NOT helpful. (edit: I don't mind users contributing and helping explain what is wrong, in fact, many users are much better at it than I am. However, a torrent of users for umpteen pages isn't helpful.) So, in clear and obvious rule breaking cases like this one, I cancel it, attempt my best explanation at what this site is about and why this submission doesn't follow our rules, cancel it, and lock the thread. This prevents new users from getting a torrent of negativity from our user base.
