That would be badass, especially if download the newest submissions too.

Uh, I'm pretty sure Gens maxes out a core as well for me. I don't think emulation has a choice.

Wouldn't it just be easier to... fire up the game in an emulator, and watch the actual movie file?

Issue 502 at the Dolphin google code is going off the rocker, quick.
If someone could help me explain better what we need from them, it might help expedite things.
They are currently talking about including controller inputs with avi/mkv!

No Warp. No.
People protest against Guantanamo Bay because we have this document in the United States of America called the Bill of Rights. Maybe you've heard of it. Let me inform you of a few things, Because from your comment, you obviously haven't the slightest clue what it says.
You see, in the United States, we have these rules that guide our purpose and our hand. The evils committed others do not forgo our duty to abide by the principals set by our forefathers; They do not allow for us to ignore our own violations.
There is NOTHING fashionable about the Constitution, and the protections it provides. Claiming such just shows willful ignorance towards all that the Bill of Rights was created for.
Seriously, know something before you start flapping your gums. Fashionable? Please.

Will Windows 7 continue this silly 64bit/32bit version?
Or will they finally move to 64bits, with 32 bit compatibility mode?

It's kind of funny, really. Almost a poetic initiation into the world of TAS.
Really, getting all huffy and argumentative over something inconsequential like a TAS serves as a distraction from real-world issues. Isn't the core of a hobby based on distracting yourself, and allowing yourself to care about something that doesn't have a grand, worldly impact?
Pretty much, the petty arguments keep the forum interesting. It reminds me of Slashdot, where the mock rage flows like chocolate in Wonka's river. It serves to entertain in an indirect and obscure way. Righteous indignation seems to be an addictive form of entertainment.

That explains it. It was just very strange in my mind to have an outside source defending a video more than the author. A curiosity, if you will.

Here's the first level uploaded to google video.
sorry about the crappy video quality. The only encoder that doesn't cause PCSX to crash on my machine is Cinepack by Radius.

Errrr, miscommunication. This is no logo what so ever.
PCSX doesn't boot to the PS1 logo. It boots straight to the game.
The game takes 1000+ frames to load, and the screen is 100% black during this time.
Question still stands...

Who is arukAdo, and why is he so vehemently defending someone elses movie?
Is arukAdo another name for the author?

Since this isn't really related to PCSX or pSX, I figured it deserved it's own thread.
Some ps1 games start with a 100% black screen while the game loads initially. For example, Jedi Power Battles has 12 seconds of pure black while the game loads.
I didn't see anything in Encoder Guidelines about loading games. Will these black screens be removed for the sake of better movies?

I may take a stab at implementing this config file. Since it won't require actually working with the visual part of Visual C++, it may be an achievable thing for me.

I said last time I was very lucky with the lengths of the black screens. This time, I was less lucky, and lost 2 frames due to those. In the end, this version is 182 frames faster than the previous improvements wip and 491 frames (a little over 8 seconds) faster than the published run.
I'll check some levels again, and will submit this if no improvements have been found for a short while.
8 seconds? Wow. Way to kick ass in the one man frame war.
Looking forward to submission. Congrats

More newbies may come after PSX tasing is more real and stable.
Lets face it- most all popular games have already been done, and been done extremely well, for all TAS-abled systems. Its no where NEAR as much fun doing a game you didn't grow up with, and popular games are the ones most people grew up with.
Makes it difficult to get involved, excited, and fully into TASing.
OoT is a good example: Popular game, no published TAS exists utilizing all the new tricks, so 2 new inexperienced people submit runs. Both get ripped to shreads by the level of perfection required for a run on this site. As far as I know, those 2 haven't returned to this site.
Who can blame them? And who can blame others for not trying?
Not saying that this is bad or good, just saying this is the way TASes go these days. Perhaps with relaxed standards on PSX, new people will carry the torch.

I've never pronounced it any other way than to say the letters.
You don't call a CPA a 'ceepah', or an MD a 'muhduh,' or a Ph.D. a 'PhuD.'
The NIH is not 'neh,' the FBI is not 'feebi,' the BBC is not 'bebeac.'
Seriously. It's an acronym. Say the letters.

Just got done talking with pSX Author, and he mention that the next release could be before or after the start of the new year. Also he said something about the Mac OS in regards of pSX, but I forget what he said exactly.
Also, I don't think I'm the one who can help this community. :P The sound-recording issue is far beyond my abilities; but I could try to finish everything else, I guess.
Seeing as it is after the new year, I'm not holding my breath...

The quality difference between pSX and every other PS emulator is really big. I don't think anyone will prefer to make his Castlevania run with rather bad music and SFX emulation, instead of perfect crystal clear sound, even if he can use a built-in memory watch or something like that, for example. (On a side note, pSX's debugger is one of the best ones I've seen on any emulator.)
So, I really do like PCSX, maybe more than anyone else around here (I just finished playing through the huge and amazing Alundra game with it :P), but we have to be realistic about this; pSX is ahead of PCSX in every possible way. For example:
- Much better emulation (graphics, sound, etc). And I mean really much better.
- Much higher accuracy and compatibility. There are probably more than 1000 more games that work with it than with PCSX.
- Probably built-in avi recorder without A/V drift issues. I can't think of anyone who could encode a high quality avi directly within the emulator would prefer to use PCSX for that.
- Great Linux port.
- No plugin hell.
- PS2 emulation. One year ago it was already able to run Final Fantasy X, I wouldn't be surprised if the next version already runs more than 70% of the PS2 games (just remember how pSX Author only hangs around the #PCSX2 channel :P).
I think you are giving pSX way too much credit. I know it has video issues with one of the games I was trying to run. Also, we have no idea how good the avi recorder will be.
Also, one year ago it was claimed that he could run FFX at 20 fps, so lets not get ahead of ourselves.
Anyway, don't dog your importance to this site.

Does MUPEN64? Last I heard, it doesn't.

Does Gens? It only has a bit for savestate.

I think that the emulator can be accepted on this site once the answer to all of these questions is "yes". Maybe a bit earlier if the particular shortcoming is not an important one. Most of these are important, though.
Some of those are extremely nit-picky. Also, I don't believe Gens works in Linux currently.

I've currently put this project on hold, since I've been told the next version of pSX is about to be released, and if it has rerecording support then my version of PCSX will be completely useless.
A bit of research shows that the last time pSX author logged into his own forum was June of last year.
His lap-dog patrickp's response to whether or not pSX 1.14 (the next version) in August of last year said - "I don't know when, and I'll ban you if you ask again."
Thats the only activity I see relevant to pSX 1.14. So, it looks like you are this communities only hope for Playstation TASes.
"Help us mz Kenobi, you're our only hope!"

Not at all. Only if and when pSX comes open source will PCSX be considered useless.
I still don't believe that is true. Unless pSX author makes it open source, and all of the memory watching/debugging/lua scripting is easier to add than in PCSX will pSX be considered the better alternative.
I think the closed-mindedness of the author of pSX will essentially make PCSX the emulator of choice permanent for this community.
