Will they be able to improve it further?" That's the gist of what he's saying, I believe. Anyway, to answer your question: yes, improvements will be made. No TAS is ever truly maxed.

The problem is that we don't know if there's a way it can save time. Masterjun's testrun lost 386 frames over the current run. Even with perfect optimisation, it's still pretty far behind.
My question would be if an end sphere skips the blowing up cutscene of Iggys castle. It might since it is a normal exit that maybe doesn't trigger the event, like using an end sphere in bowsers castle doesn't get you to the end credits... If the cutscene is skipped this should be a lot faster. Would be nice if somebody could test that...
The goal sphere does in fact skip the Iggy's Castle cutscene and Bowser's Castle cutscene, where Peach is released from the Clown Copter. However, you are right about the fact that it does not trigger the ending credits. This fact has been debated whether using the goal sphere in Bowser's Castle would be allowed, considering the fact that you are unable to view the credits once you exit the level.
Soo using it in Iggys castle in any% would be faster? I would guess it still brings you to the next level, doesn't it?
No, because you have to go to YI2 to get Yoshi then go to YI1 to swap the Charlie. It doesn't sound like it'd take a lot of time, but it does.

TASVideos has always been very accomodating of speed/entertainment tradeoffs, and as I said on page 83 of the SMW thread, 75 frames is a pretty small tradeoff for half of Yoshi's Island looking new.
75 frames is 1.25 seconds. That's a huge amount for something like this. I can 100% promise you that it would have no chance of obsoleting the currently published (or waiting to be published) run. Half of YI would be changed, sure, but flying over everything isn't that entertaining.

Well, beating Bowser's Castle is generally considered "beating" the game. And using a goal sphere effectively does that.
Do we define "completing a game" as "triggering the credits" in this site, don't we? http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#MovieMustBeComplete
That, ah, changes my opinion a bit. I apologise for my ignorance. Still would've been pretty neat. Though I wouldn't condone it as a publishable run.

One could argue that "any%" means fewest exits. And using the goal sphere in Bowser's Castle does count as an exit. I don't know. It's sketchy.

Okay, YI3, my mistake. But I could have sworn that the overall loss for all of Yoshi's Island was less than 2 seconds considering the extra speed the cape gets you in YI4 and Iggy's Castle. EDIT: Found it. There's a Nicovideo link on page 83 of the SMW thread. Link to the post: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=259274#259274 EDIT 2: Or was that before the Yoshi Wing glitch?
This is ISM's work. I think it was his test to see whether the bug would save time in any% route. Unfortunately it doesn't. Now, with the inclusion of item-swap bug into the any%, it will save even less time, because it becomes impossible to get a stock mushroom in yi2 and do the item-swap, too. But I think the next major improvement for smw will involve this bug. Maybe a faster way will be found to perform it :p
Again, it's only 75 frames. I'd gladly accept that tradeoff for almost half of Yoshi's Island looking different.
Maybe we (SMW TASers) will consider making a demo run of it for fun in the future. It wouldn't be published because it is slower. However, it could make for a semi-different approach to the former half of the game.

Right, and still it goes on to say jimsfriend should rethink his position, which is why I'm confused.
Jimsfriend said that this break wouldn't save time because of overworld transitions. Bahamete told him to rethink that theory because the time saved in levels outweighs the time lost from overworld transitions.

I've never played SDW before in my life. The only thing I know about it is that you've tried your hardest to break it with Luigi, due to its length. I can only assume it's arduous as fuck.

This glitch has motivated me to try out so many things in SMW. I'm also against the usage of this in full runs of hacks. However I wouldn't be against using this exclusively for Boo's Tower in the SDW 100%, due to the extreme length of the level.

I have yet to view those SMVs, but what I think he's getting at is that you can essentially freeze Yoshi's animation if he's licking an item before he goes invisible, i.e. the invisible Yoshi's tongue is technically sticking out and holding a null sprite that will always occupy its own sprite slot (in this case, #9), while not filling it (sorta like a Banzai Bill). When you kill the visible Yoshi, the invisible Yoshi reappears and 'resumes' his licking animation with the null sprite. Since this null sprite can only be in slot #9 (in Mister's example), it will shove itself into that slot when Yoshi reappears. If there happens to be a sprite in that slot when this happens, the null sprite will force the sprite out of its slot. However, since the sprite on Yoshi's tongue is in fact a null sprite, the sprite that would get replaced 'becomes' the null sprite in a sense that it warps to where the null sprite is, which is on Yoshi's tongue. I don't know if this is what happens (because I haven't seen it yet), or if I made it at all easier to understand, but this is how I interpreted Mister's wording.

It was YI3, and it takes quite a long time to do it. Much more time than it would save.

No, because it spawns right when you enter the level. You also need full sprite slots to be able to swap, which isn't possible in the Bowser battle.

You can only item swap sprites that are already in the level. So no, you can't.
