First two levels look good, this is a great type of game to be completely destroyed by a TAS. I look forward to your future updates!

There looks like there's a lot of optimisation to be done (eg. falling directly on the button at the end of Wing Fortress, spin dashing out of the end of the Death Egg etc...) but it's awesome to see that a no-ring run is possible considering how many of them are in places you normally would run right through.

Ah indeed, he grabs the flute doing a skid-jump to grab onto a rope. It's a slightly longer detour at that point to drop down there, but not 10 seconds worth of detour, so it does look like it would be a net gain overall.

Looking at the non TAS speedrun, there does appear to be a way to skip the entire rope ride in Level 3, because he does it there. Whether it's due to something earlier in the level (which the TAS skips over due to all the skidjumping) I don't know though.

If I could vote then this would be an obvious yes, an awesome improvement to the existing movie. The end of level 5 was particularly enjoyable haha.

I don't think the human speedrunner stopped trying too hard on stage 41, .. as it's clear on the video that he's not playing the game entirely, he's restarting the game many times so he can improve just the stage he's playing =P
I know he is, the score changes on a lot of levels confirm that, which is why being so far behind (especially on the level where you essentially just need to jump up and down the stairs) the TAS times it looked like he could have gone a good 2 seconds faster on a few of those later levels, especially given how well he'd done the previous 40. If he'd got all those times in one run that would be particularly impressive. I hope you're not discouraged ptorflaxendrosis, there's improvements to be made but they can be done.

Flicky is a game I played a heck of a lot in my time, extremely frustrating levels later on, probably because the bright colours frazzled my brain. :D I'd agree that the run doesn't look as optimised as it should be though. One point is in the above post about someone doing some levels faster on a real console. (Being beaten in time on level 1 is never a good start) - The reason is that he swings to the right more in the descent so that he can get more ground speed when he comes back to the left and lands and that is something that should be exploited in many more levels which isn't. - Also, bouncing off the walls bounces you back faster if you're not up to full speed, you use it in some levels but in other levels it might be a quicker way of getting around, did you compare that against your current routes? - Given that someone has done the levels in real time (in the Youtube video above) then you should be beating or matching all of those - Think about what the optimum route would be if there were no animals to get in your way, you should as much as possible try and follow those but there will be (later) levels where the cats get all in the way, and so going through a part of the level earlier may be of benefit, especially if a later part of the level is a big drop where the cats can't interfere significantly. Against that real run linked above, here's the difference in all the levels in terms of time. (Not frames, as I can't measure that) 1: + 1 second 2: 0 seconds 4: - 1 second 5: + 1 second 6: - 1 second 8: 0 seconds 9: 0 seconds 10: 0 seconds 12: - 1 second 13: - 2 seconds 14: + 2 seconds 16: 0 seconds 17: - 2 seconds 18: - 3 seconds 20: - 1 second 21: - 1 second 22: - 3 seconds (maybe 2, can't see the screen properly) 24: + 1 second 25: - 1 second 26: + 2 seconds 28: 0 seconds 29: - 1 second 30: - 3 seconds 32: - 2 seconds 33: - 1 second 34: 0 seconds 36: - 1 second 37: - 1 second 38: - 1 second 40: - 1 second 41: - 3 seconds 42: - 8 seconds 44: - 5 seconds 45: - 3 seconds 46: - 6 seconds 48: - 6 seconds I think the guy stopped trying too hard at level 41, but right there you can automatically see 5 levels that can be improved and in many of the other ones small optimisations (like the kinds I mentioned earlier) may shave off enough frames to knock off a second. In some of the levels the guy takes different routes that may be faster with the powers of TAS. Flicky does suit being TAS'd in my opinion, the routes in the later levels can be pretty tricky, there was some creative use of letting the cats break the chain at places that lost very little time. One thing I think adds to the feeling of unoptimisation is how horrible Flicky's jump height is, it leaves you waiting a lot of the time in places where you can do nothing about it.
