This is what you get if you just zap the "glitchy trophy" above to grayscale using ImageMagick's convert utility:
convert -colorspace Gray tas_glitchy_xx.png glitchygray.png
And here it is with a minor cyan tint:
convert glitchygray.png -size 1x1 xc:Cyan -fx 'u*v.p{0,0}*.3 + u*.8' glitchycyan.png

Are there any use cases except for "open all new forum threads in new tabs" that run into this problem? We could simply insert a delimiter on the "new posts" page that says "if you open more than this in one minute, you risk being banned". Ideally such a delimiter would take into account how many requests the user has already made this minute, but that's optional IMO.

Thanks for the encode, sgrunt! I have to say, this was pretty repetitive. Load level, visit shop, blow through the targets, wait for the boss to show up, kill the boss in under a second, repeat. And then do all the bosses all over again for the last level only marginally slower than you did them when you had the benefit of extra weaponry. Thus: did you test the gains from the extra weapons to make certain they're worth the time it costs to visit the shop? I don't think this makes a particularly great TAS to watch. Voting meh: well-executed but not entertaining.

I think that it's worth revisiting this movie with an explicit goal of trading time for entertainment. My reasoning is that the existing 1P run does a good job of being fast at this game while making it obvious that being fast at this game is hard. It's not going to be significantly harder to be fast with two players, so a fast 2P run actually looks less impressive than a fast 1P run. On the flipside, there are always opportunities for playing around when there are two players -- check out the Streets of Rage 1, Gundam Heroes, and River City Ransom movies for examples.

How interesting are leveling strategies if you're going to max them out anyway? Also, there seems to be little use for taking damage in this game, which means that the life powerups are basically pointless.

I guess it depends on if you count Zero as a percent himself then, 'cause you lose him when you get the saber. :p More seriously, if only to differentiate itself from the existing run, IMO a new run should kill Bit and Byte and leave Vile alive.

And yes, that's the only reason to get the Varia suit. Sad, innit?

One question: do the winners of awards have any control over their display in their posts? I suspect that if I were to win an award (an event of unprecedented unlikeliness) I'd want to hide it, because I really don't like lengthy sigs and it'd be hypocritical of me to have one when other people don't.

The current any% run (that doesn't use the L/R glitch) does a trick that lets him use the experience that's supposed to go to an expensive levelup to chain-levelup cheaper skills (in this case, leveling attack power five times in a row). That might come in handy.

Thanks for the encode, RadioKJ! Anyone who's played this game will realize just how quickly the game is run here. The bosses in particular fall amazingly quickly; most human players will spend several minutes fighting the later ones. As for the levels, well, it just goes to show what you can accomplish if you have a plan for your hitpoints. Voting yes, and very nice work!

It seems like the goal is to have a rule that allows us to block runs that can be improved not necessarily due to using new glitches, but simply due to tighter gameplay, whether that be through more precise movements, more consistent use of existing glitches, not making obvious mistakes, whatever. If your run can only be significantly improved by making use of new glitches, then "could be improved" shouldn't be the cause for rejection.

Has anyone tried using VirtualBox with FCEUX? Presumably FCEUX isn't doing anything particularly fancy that would give VirtualBox difficulty, right?

I haven't gotten a chance to watch all of the levels of this TAS (I've just seen a couple of the individual-level encodes that Toothache posted to the game thread), but: 1) IIRC most of the summon levelups are en route to thunder power level ups. Alisia needs to increase her firepower at least a little to be able to kill things quickly. Much of the improvement in this run compared to the first attempt Toothache made was in changing which detours were made to get powerups. Beyond that, several of the bosses have lengthy periods in which they can't be hurt at all; for those bosses, it's desirable to be able to kill them on the first pass if possible. I don't know offhand how much of a delay waiting incurs, though. 2) There are only four summons in the game: Boomerang Lizard, Ball o Fire, Dragon Frye, and Thunder Raven. Thunder Raven isn't used because its attack (which hits every enemy onscreen) has a massive recharge time and doesn't deal enough damage. Edit: took too long to answer. Oh, well!

There's some route discussion in the existing MMX3 thread. It might be best to keep discussion in general to that thread instead of splitting it, since the only real differences between this and the any% run will be stage order and that this run will make some minor detours during the stages.

I don't recommend this. It's all too easy on Wikipedia for one of the moderators to get a grudge against some person or group and just start mass-reverting any changes that look like they'd benefit that group. And you can't fight the moderator cabal; it appears to be composed entirely of people who have way more time than you do. There are some situations where adding links could be warranted, though. For example, if there was a discussion of glitches in Mario 64, then linking to the TAS would give a good demonstration. But as a general rule, not every game article needs a link to the corresponding TAS.

Of course, any run here that took damage when it was not advantageous or entertaining to do so would get rejected...

Alternatively, instead of calling the run "BLJ-less" it gets called "stays under natural speed limit" or something. Doesn't the hyperspeed walljump operate under similar principles as the BLJ anyway? Nice find, anyway. Hyperspeed walljumps always sound really weird.

Well, you're free to your opinion. My counter-opinion is that King's Bounty is perhaps the best example we have of two very important aspects of TASing: * Doing unexpected things * Manipulating the game into doing things for you. The fact that a game that normally takes several hours to beat is beaten in seconds instead is icing on the cake, really. As for the "divisions" thing, I don't think it's unreasonable to want the stars to show a good cross-section of what TASVideos does, and to want there to be a limited number of stars. Those two restrictions combine to mean that not every awesome run can get a star, because there's a slightly more awesome run with otherwise similar gameplay, and having them both have stars would create redundancy.

Do we have a list somewhere of the TASers whose first movies were published this year?

The 100% souls AoS TAS and the recent soccer TAS both deserve stars, IMO. I also agree with Moozooh's suggestion of stars to recycle, with the exception of King's Bounty. I'd prefer that Gunstar Heroes keep its star over Gunstar Super Heroes, though; the additional player and the weapon combinations make the former more interesting than the latter.
