The YouTube encode isn't of sufficient quality for publication.

As far as mana is concerned, you can buy all the mana potions you need in the town. It's not like money's going to be an issue. I suspect even the assassin would want a few mana potions just to be able to toss down traps as fast as possible, though she might be able to get by with ones found as she goes.

I actually really liked the RTTF ending, though the backwards running and walljumping got old after a bit. Maybe if you used more of Falcon's specials for movement? You probably have enough time to Falcon Punch your way along a short platform, let alone Falcon Kick. I don't have any good ideas for making BTT entertaining. It'd be nice to see more item use in the run, if possible.

Yeah, I was mostly reacting to the "Get something that attacks with an element the Sorceress doesn't use" statement -- she'll be only killing bosses and high-value targets, which can be manipulated to be vulnerable to the elements she uses by default. Lower Resist, though, will generally be helpful because it works directly with the Sorc's primary damage sources.

Sorceress won't be killing most enemies she encounters anyway; she'll be too busy teleport-spamming her way through the game.

I love how Kevin's doing something like 900x more damage than Lise is. :)

I'm getting a "video not found" error from the encode link, sadly.

It may well be that Sonic's velocity is stored in floating point. You can try poking around with converters (e.g. this one) to test that theory.

You sure are fond of the female characters, aren't you? I'm not a fighting game expert, but this seemed reasonably decent. There was a small amount of playing around (e.g. running into the side and having the AI get completely confused) and the cast changed often enough that nobody really outwore their welcome. I won't say it's the best fighting game TAS I've ever seen, but it's good enough to publish.

Wouldn't perfect scandashing be better than perfect boosting, though? Speeds should be somewhat comparable but the scandashing doesn't require morphing all the time.

In fact, I'm pretty sure companies have tried this, perhaps not in EULAs, but in contracts e.g. for review copies.
I'm sure companies try to make deals like that a lot, and successfully too, but I can't recall ever hearing about any lawsuits regarding this. Maybe in clear cases of libel, but not that I can remember anyway.
You're not going to see something like that go to court except maybe with an arrogant small business owner who doesn't understand contracts. Anyone who has a lawyer on hire would look at the case, say "Yeah, that bit won't stand", and settle out of court. The point isn't to make a contract that's fully legal; it's to make people think twice before taking actions that you don't want. You think most EULA readers have a strong grasp of the law? Hell, I sure don't.

I have to admit, this started off really slowly. It got better once you got the running shoes though. Do you have to re-find those each level or can you start with them from now on? Also, how long is the game? You seem to know what you're doing, anyway. I could see this getting published, if it's not too long and you find some glitches to show off. Welcome to the forums!

So how long does knocking Ridley to the ground "manually" take compared to the amount of time required to pick up the Boost Ball? And of course how much time does having the ball save? Assuming Ridley's manipulable, it ought to be possible to knock him down with charged Plasma shots pretty quickly.

I don't think that SSBM will have to compete with SSB for "publication rights". They're different games. We have multiple Street Fighter games represented on the site; I don't see why we couldn't have multiple Smash Bros. games too. Of course each game has to be strong on entertainment, but that's always the case. Best of luck with your run!

Yep. Oftentimes in the game threads here you'll see "quick and dirty" encodes done of WIPs so that everyone can see them. Occasionally a submission will come with one of those as well, to bridge the gap until an official encode can be made.

Encoding is just converting the output of the emulator into a video file that can be played by media players, uploaded to YouTube, etc. Basically making the run viewable by people who don't have the emulator set up. So yes, what you're doing is encoding. Our site encoders spend a lot of time on their craft to try to get as good of a quality as they can, while keeping filesizes reasonably low. They also have their work cut out for them getting YouTube to not completely mangle those videos. It's more work, but we appreciate it. :)

I think Feos is saying in a rather roundabout way that he'd rather you consolidate your responses to different people into a single post. I don't personally think it matters much. We do rarely get some users who don't know about editing posts, so if they make a mistake they then make a followup post correcting the mistake. That's a bit silly.

I don't find the legal questions particularly interesting, since in practice nobody's going to sue you unless you're doing something they don't like, and if that's the case they'll find a pretext to sue pretty much regardless of what you're actually doing. It might not hold up in court, but it doesn't have to to get you to stop. The moral questions are more interesting IMO. And the answer to those depends entirely on what you're going to do once you've finished reverse-engineering the algorithms involved.

When he's taking the correct route: basically never. The game goes off the rails as soon as he uses the morph trick to go through one of the Wrecked Ship robots and doesn't ever recover. In fact it'd be amusing to catalog all of the sequence breaks, since there's so bloody many of them.

I don't know about you guys, but the two non-deformed screenshots look identical to me. I blew them up to 400% normal size and the only difference is that the second image uses a pale blue instead of pale grey.
