I found a glitch that lets you get the 100 pt target on the far left quickly, but it isn't easy to do.

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=89 for my step-by-step tutorial on how to slow down on virtuanes. Edit: Seems like Boco beat me to it, and posted right before I did. :p

I see you've become the Target champion. Now 5 members of this forum hold ZHQ arcade titles. :) Edit: maybe this topic should be split, the LoZ thread is getting quite big.

Michael Fried mentioned starting a speed run challenge thread. Looks like he now has an opponent. :P

but speed, difficulty, popularity etc. are factors that make a game entertaining. I know it doesn't sound objective, but there isn't just one factor that makes a game more entertaining than another. For example, Megaman isn't too random, or complex, but it is still entertaining to watch. It all depends on the game; your question seeks to generalize a subjective concept, so it is hard to answer.

you left out the most important word: entertainment. It has to be fun to watch.

How about in addition to the LoZ challenges thread, we also have a SMB3 challenges thread?
I wouldn't mind seeing a smb3 challenge thread, I've been practising purely LoZ past couple weeks so I don't think I'd be much of a challenge for you. I'd still consider participating though.

backup your files often so if you save by accident, it won't matter.

yeah, but my focus here was to make a challenge that resembles what will actually be done in a speed run. Firebrandx's challenge may take awhile to do, and doesn't seem very practical to me. You're not supposed to kill any overworld enemies and you cannot pick up even the wooden sword. It's more something to look at after you can do a speed run of the whole game rather well. Edit: I'm doing the level 3 challenge now, I'll post my time up along with the video (if I manage a good time).

This thread focuses on continuous speed run (no savestates or slowdowns) challenges for the Legend of Zelda. I decided to start this after seeing similar challenges posted on ZHQ, and I believe they will help in the production of a record-breaking "legit" LoZ run. Anyway, the challenge I'm proposing today is: Complete Level 3 with only 3 heart containers, the wooden sword, and 4 bombs. You must also pick up the Raft which is found in the dungeon, and Up+A is allowed. Time starts from the moment you control Link within the dungeon to when you touch the triforce. This is not a time attack, but you can savestate at the start of the dungeon, so you don't have to go back to the beginning if you die, but that is the only place you can do so. I'll be doing this challenge as well, so lets see how fast you can do it! :)

from what I've seen playing the same rooms over, killing an enemy in a different position and time affects item dropping. I don't think your specific movements matter as much but i'm not too sure.

jail break is one of the most poorly made flash games I've ever seen, and it should be taken off ZHQ. You get hit when nobody is shooting at you, and your bullets never run out. I got 62 just on my second try. The secret involves exploiting a glitch, and once I reveal it there won't be anyone playing it anymore. But the hint is right in the game description: "shoot the prisoner as many times as possible." Thats right, pick a prisoner and keep shooting him repeatedly!

lol, for a minute there I started to sound like one of those TG people when I said "human runs". I'll try that challenge but I'd also try not getting the boomerang since it won't be used in the speedrun. Would anyone be interested if we did a thread on LoZ challenges on this forum like TSA did on his? I would like doing, for example, a level 3 challenge with 3 heart containers, wooden sword, and bombs.

Awesome, and let us see the perfection
I'm not making a time attack, it's going to be a pure speedrun without savestates or slowdown. Also, I liked the challenges TSA had posted on his forum, but it doesn't seem like he has any going on at the moment. It would be good to be able to compare myself to some actual human runs of the dungeons to see where I stand.

It wouldn't be very difficult at all to make a pacman video, but I doubt many people would find it entertaining.

That's not very good, but I guess seeing how he was going for playing most of the levels, he probably didn't focus too much time on perfecting each level individually.

There's only one room of red darknuts in Lv3 that I am forced to beat, so it may take me around 2 minutes more or less for the dungeon. Add the walking and that's somewhere under 3 mins from power on to gambling room. I don't think I'd mind redoing the run a few times to get the gambling right. I'll record myself this weekend doing Lv3 to see exactly how fast I can do it.

honestly everyone, just give it a rest, nobody is going to win this endless argument; play what you like however you like, just don't bother anyone about it.

thanks for that. It's 3 am, so I'll do the darknut rooms a few more times before heading off to bed.

thanks a lot Sleepz, that route is very helpful. I'm trying to get as close to your dungeon times as humanly possible. I have your dungeons timed at: lv3: 1:30 mins, wooden lv4: 2:08 mins, wooden lv1: 1:28 mins, wooden lv5: 2:10 mins, white lv8: 1:07 mins, white lv2: 1:00 min, white lv6: 1:42 mins, white lv7: 2:22 mins, white lv9: 4:17 mins, white I have dungeons 1 and 2 almost mastered; it'll take around 8 hits with the wooden sword to beat Gleeok in lv4, I think I can manage it with quick movements. Stunning enemies and walking through them with the boomerang helps at some parts, do you think it would be worth the detour to get it? I'm playing level 6 now, and clearing rooms with the blue wizzrobes without taking much damage is really difficult. They take around 6 white sword hits so I'm sticking with using bombs, but I have to be careful not to waste any. Same goes for fighting blue darknuts in level 8. Edit: on second thought, getting the boomerang may not be so useful, even if it is a pure speedrun. It doesn't work on the more difficult enemies, and I could just push the weaker enemies aside with the sword instead of using it. Just means I'll have to practice fighting more...
