Thanks r57shell for the info. I've been running the gen version as well and I am finding it a little better than the snes version, but I only have the snes version for RTA. Will probably run both. Im running RAM searches now. Will update when I find relevant info. Also, my run will be warrior, and I plan to do both Any% and a 100% (if possible).

I am working on a TAS for this atm as well. Has the midboss in New Junk City been improved? I got it with only one jump over. I may have been watching an older TAS, but he got it after 4 jumps. I found you can float him in the air at the beginning of the fight with your whip, allowing for extra dmg before he hits the ground. Also, plasma shot animations can be cancelled by whipping, and then you can cancel the whip animation with another plasma, repeat. I shot 4 plasmas in 8 frames, however, I dont think the boss took damage from 2 of them due to iframes. I didnt think that boss had iframes, but I'm still new to TASing this game. I am very curious where the skip was found. I have tried to find a way to dmg boost off the crow at the beginning of NJC and clip into the cliff above to get the toilet warp early. No luck so far, but I feel like it should be possible.

Checked the forum but didnt see this game as a thread on its own. Anyway, I'm running this game both RTA and TAS and have found interesting speed tech. I would love to hear other information others have found playing this game. - If you reset the SNES during the Interplay screen, you can skip loading the developer screen as well as the title screen. It saves a ton of frames doing this, but I dont know if it would be allowed during a run. During the TAS, you hit reset during the first frame after the lag frames and never see the Interplay logo the first time. - inputs can be loaded in before screens load in, so you can select a color for your car without too much time loss. - If you hit the barrier while driving at a certain angle (not frame or pixel perfect), your car will shoot forward faster than your top speed for about 10-20 frames. - During the first races before you buy the Air Devil, if you use your jump about 4 or less frames before going down a large hill, instead of launching you, your car will stick to the hill and you will get a turbo boost instead. I have not found any lap skips yet, though I think I remember a few from my childhood. I ran an RTA this week and managed a measly hour and a half run. I'm also trying to compile a reasonable 100% route, but when you purchase your new vehicle, you lose all upgrades, so money management becomes so tight it may be impossible to purchase all upgrades before you purchase the next vehicle. If anyone knows a route, let me know. Turbo purchases are a must, however for quick money earnings in early stages, I found getting all rockets was useful. Once the race begins, no aiming is required for the rockets. Two rockets will take out a car, so with 6 rockets, you can earn 3000 attack bonus at the very start of the race. A two player TAS would be fun, and that will be my next goal after the one player route.

I'm working on this run for EWJ2 (not for publication but more to get a feel of TASing, though a published run would be awesome) and I'm needing a little assistance on the Lorenzen's Soil part. As of yet, I haven't found any glitches through the soil, though I do notice that Jim's head isn't a point of collision detection. Also, left+right seems to push Jim through certain tight spaces in the soil. This level is definitely a TAS slow down level. At times, you must shoot through the soil to progress, at least as for now. I'm wondering, though, if there's anyway to glitch through it, if not all of it, at least what is the cut off point for when you can. Anyone wanna help a n00b out?

I ran the first level of EWJ2. I've so far got it to ~5620 frames or so, but there's indeed room for improvement. I also used lsnes for this. Here is the file. http://www.4shared.com/file/8hMecGMS/ewj.html I named it ewj by accident; it is a save movie file for EWJ2 in lsnes.

I watched those the other night. I think my main issue is just not being used to the controls just yet. I used to TAS years ago, but I've been away awhile and many things have changed. Also, many games that hadn't been TASed or were considerably longer than they are now were around then. Now, though, the SMB run I remember being close to 6 minutes long is now shorter than 5 minutes. It's crazy! But, yeah, I appreciate everyone's assistance. Sorry for being such a n00b. I haven't found anything on EWJ2 so I may move to doing that project. Was EWJ2 also on GEN? If so, which system would be the better run to make? Or would it matter?

I'm watching that now. It seems like everything I did on the SNES, the splash screens and loading screens were only skippable after a certain number of frames. My point for this run was to publish an SNES run of the game so as to show the differences between the two systems (the GEN version of the game clearly being superior, as well as the run). After messing around with it a little more, I don't think I'll pursue this much longer, or at least it won't be something I will primarily work on. I'm up for suggestions on any game that has yet to be TASed for either the SNES or NES, this was just for me the most interesting of game choices. Plus, I love this game. I wonder if EWJ2 has been run yet...*searches net* But, yeah, I had a problem with my times on the loading and splash screens. I felt like I should have been able to skip them before I was able to, but it seemed as though the SNES version forces the player to listen to the "Earthworm Jim" intro voice and to also stare at Jim a little longer than I wanted to. Of course, this may have just been something I was doing wrong. Also, I definitely messed up the cow launch, as well as the first dog (where his death was rather unnecessary but satisfying). I want to get better at TASing. I enjoy gaming, but I rather enjoy beating games as fast as possible more.

Hi. I'm a n00b, and this, for some reason, was my first TAS choice. I love this game, and this game is difficult, even on normal. This is my FIRST attempted TAS, and it is only the first level, New Junk City. I chose the DIFFICULT difficulty, and it having been so long since I played the game, got several surprises. There are SEVERAL points for improvements, namely on my jumps as well as taking less damage in certain places. Also, considering this was my first attempt at a TAS, I chose to not take the elk warp (as I call it), though it would have considerably lessened the number of frames. I came in at a whopping 12020 frames for this run. Here is a link to the .smv: http://www.4shared.com/file/8oxOyZaI/Earthworm_Jim.html I am aware this is not the preferred emulator, but I haven't gotten used to using lsnes yet (I'm not even sure how to map controller keys as of yet: I are n00b). If someone could encode and upload this, it would be greatly appreciated. My internet is just too slow for YouTube uploads at the moment. Any and all suggestions is GREATLY appreciated and welcome. Also, I am all up for collab on this project. Thanks!

Hi! First of all, I'm new to the forums, though not new to the site. I've been coming here and enjoying TASes for close to 5 years now. Great place! I've always wanted to do my own TAS, but all of the videos I watch are so great that I never feel as though I could do as awesome of a job. I watched adelikat's videos on beginning techniques for TASing, and I'm slowly getting used to everything, which leads me to my first question... Would RC Pro Am 2 be a bad game choice to TAS? I've played this game ever since I was able to pick up a controller, and I love the game, even though it is quite hard for a racing game. Recently I've picked it back up on console and one day noticed I was able to throw myself through a wall on a turn. I came out on the other end, and considering it was on a console, I was unable to experiment with this glitch any further. What do you guys think? Worth TASing? Would anyone like to help with this one? Thanks, and I look forward to becoming a TAS expert!
