DeHackEd: could you possibly upload a diff? I've been wanting to do something like this to MAME for awhile, but never knew where to start...

The game isn't great, but less interesting things have been published, so Top Gun probably has a chance. A "fastest time" run wouldn't be as entertaining, IMO.

Er, by "according to Nach" I meant "according to something he wrote on the ZSNES forum," where you can probably get in touch with him. I don't know him personally. Also, if by ZMV script you mean for uploading submissions to TASvideos, then you'd want to nag Bisqwit. I don't know if Nach can actually help you with that.

You'll need to read the spec on the ZMV format which, according to Nach, comes with the ZSNES sourcecode.

It happens on my system(s). The window locks up, and can't be restored. I've also found that the Display Config dialog gets corrupted when changing certain filters in fullscreen mode. Neither seems to be version or OS-specific. Both can be avoided fairly easily, though.

Firing constantly is unTASlike, but adds to the farce, as does crashing the plane. The game is a bit too long for what it is- a ridiculous POS- but it was funny, so my feeling is mostly positive. I think I'll refrain from voting.

I recall Nitsuja estimating a few years ago, "you should expect to spend at least an hour on every minute of gameplay..." It's not surprising that estimates appear to have risen since then.

That would be interesting, particularly in light of the "how much material is left?" thread.

Is anyone else having the same problem?
Nope. Syncs fine. The problem is most likely due to wearing mismatched socks, or other wizard-related voodoo.

The game is definitely crappy, but I didn't find it at "ha ha" crappy, like Hydlide. The gameplay looks tight, though, and that's usually worth a meh in my book.

Poor Axel always got rejected by Blaze :(
Yeah, really. There are gentler ways to reject a guy than throwing him off a roof. :D I liked this run a lot. I liked Sprint's, too, and this is a huge improvement in all respects.

I'm surprised there are half as many SNES movies as there are NES. Both systems have comparably sized libraries. I'm also surprised that apparently, out of some 800 NES games, nearly a quarter have been worth TASing. So, I'd expect another 20-40 NES, but it would be reasonable to expect around 100 for SNES... Unless there's an appreciable difference in overall quality between the two libraries, that is.

I did something like this last night using Lua. It only works for Blackthorne, but if anyone wants to check it out, here are the scripts: http://acranecorner.com/bthornelua.7z The first script is labeled "blackwrite". It writes Kyle's X/Y coordinates to a file every frame. The other script (blackread) reads these coordinates and draws a rectangle to represent Kyle's ghost from the other movie. In other words, it allows me record my performance from one WIP, and compare it my current WIP in realtime.

Gens 9.5b has this feature.

I wrote a rudimentary subtitling script for translations, director's commentaries, WIP annotations, and... other purposes. It would need a lot of tweaking to make the display look right in any given game, so I didn't concern myself with making it do anything more than what I specifically needed. Here's a package containing the script, a movie of Rushing Beat Shura (J), and my accompanying "translation." To use it, you'll need to load the ROM, start the movie, then execute the script. The script and the translation need to be in the same folder. It was a buttload of work, and not all the kinks have been solved, but there you go.

I could also host Final Burn Alpha (I don't know much about this emulator) if you can upload it because I think it's accepted or almost accepted here for TASing.
It turns out the FAQ link was only down temporarily.

I wouldn't mind seeing more, but it's probably not the best choice for a submission. Definitely a very laggy game.

Question from someone who has never used a PSX emulator: are the isos/bins in the hundreds of megs range? Or are they smaller then that?
I think you can reasonably expect them to be in the 400-600 MB range.

Yes, I had just assumed the scripts were limited to functions in the host program. I'm thumbing through the index of the reference manual as I type this. It's getting very interesting. Hee hee hee...

It would be nice to have in Mupen. It's better than the current alternative ways of watching memory addresses in that emulator, I think. As for features... well, I'm just pulling this out of my ass- I have no idea if it's feasible- but it would be extraordinarily cool if it we could compare a character's x/y coordinates (or memory values in general) across two movies, so as to have a constant and precise gauge of whether you've lost frames over a previous video. (As per this thread.) I'm very impressed by the power of Lua so far. Maybe it can be done?

Final Burn Alpha, anyone? The link in the FAQ is dead: http://www.filespace.org/blip/fba.rar

Well i've been interested in making my own video game for a while now, and i don't know how to go about it. I've searched the web far and wide and have come up with nothing. I know i have to code a game somehow (i only know about .1% of C++), but with what tools.
It's vague. The answer depends on what kind of project you're doing. If it's a class thing where you have a week to do it, I'd suggest Ruby. It's free, cross-platform, and comes with OpenGL bindings out of the box, which is damned convenient. Gets no easier than that, AFAIK.

Awesome improvement in the crate level. It's hard to say at a glance if it's readily improvable, so I'm satisfied. Yes vote.

It's slow, the hitboxing is atrocious, and ostensibly pointless. I'm running waddling to the right, unable to defend myself against... Victorian peasantry?! Maybe it would make more sense if I'd read the book? Overall, I wouldn't be surprised if the slow-mo walking kills any shitty game novelty value it may have.
