I'd also be very appreciative if a copy of the subtitles were made available... I'm thinking of hacking in some subtitle support for snes9x, since as much as I'd like to see the movie with subs, I'm not keen on downloading a 3:35:00+ AVI.

I agree. I watched the WIP earlier, and am looking forward to a published video... with or without all that crap in the sky.

Yeah, that's a good choice for TASing. Better than you'd expect from propagandaware, to be sure. ;)
•Is ZSNESw allowed? I think it's also known as ZSNES WIP or something. I presume it is, but it would be very embarrassing if I completed my run and found out it's illegal because I used the wrong emulator.
It'd be worse than 'embarrassing' I think. Make sure you let us know the exact version you're using- I don't keep up with ZSNES' development, but it should be version 1.50 or newer.
Is there a way to make a graphics layer translucent (i.e., semitransparent)? Spots are hidden behind all sorts of objects, but it just so happens that the layer they're hidden behind is also the layer for important things like the ground. I'd like to be able to see where I'm going while searching for spots (at least in my preliminary runs). Is there perhaps a way to force one layer to be displayed on top of the other instead of the default ordering?
IIRC, you can toggle layers using keys 1-6 by default. I think that's all you can do. As for 'advice', I think you should just use snes9x 1.43 for production, and version 1.51 for finding more cheats- cheats like your lateral and vertical velocities. Knowing how fast your character is going at any given moment will make your life easier, especially TASing this particular game, methinks.

The answer is (most likely) that you need to press ctrl + f11. Please ask DOSBox related questions here unless you're asking about a rerecording version of DOSBox.

You could almost say diablo 1. A lot of it was ambient, but the tristram theme was just right for what that game was.
Hell yeah. Though, I'd say that Diablo 2 was actually better. It borrowed some of the songs from the original, and even extended the Tristram theme.

Quake. Musically, it's pretty decent, even though it's mainly ambient sound, though you have to appreciate the skill that Trent Reznor (NiN?) put into "Whispers". What I really like is that it's the most fitting soundtrack to a game ever. Terranigma. What it lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality... very few tracks for such a long game, but it's mainly good, with only a few exceptions. It also scores points for intelligent use of motif- not quite as good as what Uematsu did with FF6, but you'll definitely be humming the main theme after beating the game. Similarly, Chrono Cross deserves a mention for the incredible job Mitsuda et al did in expanding on the themes established in CT. Akumajou Densetsu. Of all the Castlevania games, I don't think there's been a single title with so many tracks that were so remixable. Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei. Though not consistently listenable, and often simplistic, the music in this remake can at least be said to have its own interesting style that you're not likely to find outside the series. Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire. You don't really get to appreciate the music in the TAS, but there's a lot of quality stuff there, particularly the battle and town themes. (Read: everything.) Cave Story and Grim Fandango require no explanation for why they're among the best. Just listen. Sonic Advance 2. The best soundtrack of the entire series, and that's saying a lot. I think FF6 wins, for a variety of reasons. I'm just tired of hearing about it. ಠ_ಠ

This is obviously going to be published, so I think I'll forgo the yes-vote and instead, vote thusly: ...Assuming there's no way to reduce lag, anyhow.

This game doesn't have them so why the hell not use 1.51, it'll please those who care about sound and junk.
1.51 has (occasional/difficult to predict) problems with savestates not being readable. IE, it has some issues. Hero of the Day went into more detail in the last ~5 pages of the Super Metroid thread, I think.

I liked the part where "A" leaped away like a coward, leaving his friends to be killed horribly by Titan's mighty Ass-Shake [sic] attack. It was hard to sit through, except for the boss fights. Would have been more fun with subtitles pointing out the subtler points, and making up a fake, idiotic plot to replace the plot that's actually in there. Edit: Typos.

Aww. I was hoping this would be that horrible DBZ RPG. I'd watch that, just to see it get demolished. As it happens, this movie could be useful- not publishable, but good to have. Thanks, Perfectacle.

Holy psychic leakage, batman! I just finished watching the old version not ten minutes ago. I guess that puts me in a good position to see the improved version, doesn't it? :) *watches movie* I can't believe how much more insanity was left in this game. The fatalities (and various new -ities that seem to have been invented.) The fighting between finishes is for the most part more polished and refined than the last version. The P1 vs P2 rounds would have been excessive, if VANDAL hadn't used the dual-control to trash the game mid-battle. A fresh dose of ultraviolent craziness. Huge yes.

btw, Snes9x 1.51 is a pile of crap. Not only are none of the save states recognized upon playback, I am experience serious desync issues now. Truly frustrating. I would have finished my run last week if the damn movie did not desync or if my saved states worked and I did not have to play it back from the very beginning every time I wanted to continue.
If you've figured out how to reproduce that savestate thing, you should let Nitsuja know so he can fix it.

It seems to have a desync around frame 80,000. With the patch, I mean. It had the right checksum. Try beating Shoudai, maybe?

But, how about a TAS which races down to floor 99 as soon as possible, beats the master AND collects all additional 9 Iris treasures? I'm sure it would be fun to see the game pushed to it's limits like that. Since collecting all Iris treasures typically took me months, collecting all of them in one go could be pretty amusing to watch. Yes/Meh/No?
I'm fairly curious to see how that would look; beating that damn cave was no trivial thing, so beating it quickly would be nuts. Seems like something you could submit as a concept demo without too many objections. Pre-yes vote. :)

Xoinx: That is a real concern of mine. The run is boring, and even I have trouble watching it. There is no "wow" moments like a normal TAS.
Regarding that, don't you think a TAS of SF2 (J) would be more interesting? It has luck manipulation AND counter attacks, which would make it much more satisfying to watch, IMO.
