I found a 295 frame improvement on the first boss, apparently if you keep jumping while swinging your sword you can deal more hits on a single swing.
Unfortunately this WIP doesnt sync past the first boss due to different RNG so I'll just put it here for anyone that wants to take a look.

Perhaps one of the difficult dishes I’ve ever made.
Timpano. An Italian dish in the shape of a Timpani drum, which involves filling a Dutch oven with pasta, hard boiled eggs, salami, meatballs, and a bunch of cheese. It turned out amazing and a task that I can check off my bucket list.

It’s to use “hidden mansion” mode which is apparently the standard for RTA runs (unlockable after beating the game the first time)
Not only does it skip all the introductory cutscenes but it also makes the vaccum stronger.

So this run doesn't do the same BIOS setup as the other published DSi movies do, they start from the moment the DSi asks for user settings. Since there isn't a proper guide on how to do this yet I don't blame the author for not doing this.

Just a quick note, koffingrockz has made me aware of a damage boost in Pirates 1 and 2 that would be at most 2 seconds improvement.
I'm currently figuring out the logistics for it, will post an improved file when I get it situated.

VBA is an older less accurate emulator, and bizhawk has more accurate emulation for GB/GBC, meaning Bizhawk would have more lag emulated compared to VBA.
It would be very unfair to expect exact frame counts to be faster.

It just occurred to me that this submission doesn’t provide an extended input file for the final results screen after the end screen (where it shows the difference ending screens and final time)
Does the author want that to be shown in the publication encode? I can try making such a movie file on my own.

I managed to improve the last level of this run by a few frames using the walk into walls glitch to scroll the screen a bit faster and get an improved boss fight.

Optimization looks solid. I didn't realize how annoying the lag in this game is until I tried changing a few instances where Muttley does an attack on an enemy. Especially on bizhawk where the emulation's different (and doesn't sync on it's own), just slightly changing the places where you do an attack can mess up lag patterns, if you do an attack one frame too early you'd get 4-5 frames of lag compared to just one.
I will say though the way the game does power ups confuses me, I couldn't figure out why Muttley wouldn't hover in level one when I tried running it on bizhawk, but it turns out you need those bones you collect for something, but then after that point they don't need to be collected or something. I know nothing about this game's mechanics so that's just me.
Either way it's pretty clear that a ton of work was done to reduce lag as much as possible, and there isn't anything I can notice from my naked eye that looks weird. Good Job.
