I'll vote Smash TV. It'd be interesting to see if it's possible to beat the game in hard mode without dying, which is hard enough to do in easy!

Here's a question. In the run I am working on, I plan on taking some very delibrate but useless hits, some to show off some graphical tricks and one to die for the sake of doing something "different". Would these be acceptable?

I was just curious about the character. I'm using Rock'n'Roll with a bit of Snake Eyes thrown in for my run. Good point about the rockets, though. There is a way you can power them and every other weapon up fully without the power ups, but it's a bit out of the way, and considering your argument for the laser, is very probably worthless for a run. Good luck, can't wait to see it.

I've actually been using the punch cancelling technique for a while. Takes many bosses down real quick-like. How do you do it? In the first game at least, punching, looking up for a frame, and then punching again actually isn't the fastest method to use; you need two frames between punches instead of one, otherwise a punch won't come out. Is it the same in this game? [Edit]I just did some testing on the punches and it would indeed seem you can throw a punch every other frame. No fair.[/Edit] I always thought the missile launcher was the strongest weapon. After all, when you get it they say, "Use this against Cobra." What's your primary character going to be?

Ah, a sequel to my run, huh? Better get cracking on my own then! :P I didn't like this game as much as the first one. Don't know what it was, but one problem is that the characters are more specialized and less nuanced. Plus General Hawk goes from kicking all kinds of butt to absolutely sucking.

Fifth post in a row... wow. I've revived this project and have gone on to complete the second mission. I haven't timed things yet, but I'm guessing I'm 10-12 seconds faster than my second version at this point. I also discovered a neat little graphical glitch that would be easy to apply to other games. I finally have an idea what I'm going to do with 3-1. It's the next level in the game, so I hope I can get it right. I'll get to that on Monday.

The point of the site is indeed to provide entertaining runs; the point of this run is to show to potential authors what happens if you choose a boring game. It's not about the run itself: it's about the game. Pick your game wisely, or else the quality of the run will be beyond your control. If anything I'd go with Tombad's idea of including this submission in the guidelines. But this is Bisqwit's site, and I shall let him do as he pleases.

Hm. Could have sworn I used the (J) version. Edit: Maybe I didn't. The site I downloaded from didn't list the version.

Acoording to the "Last Edit" thing, this is the oldest undecided submission on this site. I say we decide it's fate within the next week and get it out of the way.

Wait a tick... I've deleted a post of mine before! Has that ability been revoked? I'm not seeing any "Delete" buttons.

Go into the File menu and select "Record Movie". One of the options is to record from reset. Be careful how you approach it, though: it's a soft reset, as "Record from Power On" isn't an option yet. Edit: 64th post!

Yeah, I figured. You're Walker Boh; you know what you doing. Don't start your whole run over because of those blocks, though. I'd wait until more significant tricks emerge.

Well, the biggest thing I'm wondering about is why you spent a few seconds grabbing a cross as Pochi that seemed to do little to no good; was that to snag a bit of money? That's the biggest one. Another is pushing those blocks below the row of doors as Meyna; I believe you could squeeze them and shorten their flying time. Other things are very small: jumping over enemies and hitting the ceiling when you could walk through them (two frames saved), some small ladder issues (I still don't like the handling of that ladder next to that pyramid in Pochi's area), things like that. Nothing that would save more than a second or two total. Still a very, very nice run.

Alrighty, I just saw this. There's a few things I could nitpick on, but I won't for two reasons. 1. At this point it wouldn't feel right. 2. You're Walker Boh; I trust a lot of what you are doing. Instead, I'll just sit back and say, "Bravo, man. Bravo." Oh, and in case you are wondering, I just worry about how much free time you have on your hands. ;)

8 minutes?! Oh, wow. Unfortunately, my sister is on the other computer right now, so I can't watch it yet. But since I thought your last one was publishable in spite of errors, I have a pretty clear idea of what I'll think of this one! :P You pump these runs out so stinkin' fast. Makes me wonder sometimes... Glad I could help, although I don't think my suggestions saved more than ten seconds. Brose deserves props for reworking the entire route; I only nitpicked some areas.

Alright, got another Filespace account setup (using a new e-mail and the name Hermbletont), and I will remember the password! Okay, here we go. http://www.filespace.org/Hermbletont/SlidingPuzzle.gif This is a sliding puzzle for Xenm; the red line indicates the path Xenm will take; arrows indicate the direction the blocks get pushed. I believe this would be fastest, especially if bypassing the ladder is effective. http://www.filespace.org/Hermbletont/PochiPath.gif The red line is the current path in this maze in Pochi's area; the purple line I know to be faster by sixteen frames. http://www.filespace.org/Hermbletont/LyllsLadder.fcm This FCM shows the best way to get down the ladder with Lyll; I get off the ladder and get back on a frame before bouncing, and get off again. After the second time, I move to the right. http://www.filespace.org/Hermbletont/EnemyWalk.fcm Just a generic technique that would be best for getting through holes one space high; obviously not optimized, and saves only two or three frames, so getting an enemy into position wouldn't be worth it.

Yes, that's the ladder I was talking about in Xenm's area. About the big ladder: It would seem that with Xenm/Pochi and Roas/Meyna (finally got her name!), it is indeed fastest to fall right at the top, even though they'll bounce twice. With Lyll, though, considering how high she bounces, it's faster to use the ladder to constantly break her fall until she can go to the right without bumping into the platform with the scorpion. She'll bounce only once. With any character, moving to the left of the ladder is slowest. Here's the frames the characters can fall before bouncing: Xenm/Pochi: 17 Roas/Meyna:19 Lyll: 25 Experiment with these numbers a bit. You might define "starting to fall" a bit differently than I do, but they around those numbers. I have a couple of minor route suggestions that would be easier to suggest with pictures. One's in Xenm's are (right after that ladder, in fact), and the other's in Pochi's. I'll get them up soon, along with a movie about that ladder. Oh, and could you please do something to make those long stretches of nothing more interesting?

Buying both the key and the wings would cost 175. Grabbing the money on the way to the gloves requires a few frames worth of pausing. Since we can skip most of Lyll's area thanks to that lion statue, I'd say it'd definately be worth starting with Xenm and purhasing the key and the wings, even though you'd have to raise a quick 25. Hey, Brose, how might I get an FTP server like that? How risky is it?

I tried it recently. It'd be a decent game if it weren't for the nonsensical stroy and enemies, the crumby handling, the irritating music, and had more distinct environments. It's a huge game, but unlike Legacy of the Wizard, is a pest to play. It's a different brand of "bad" from Cheetahmen, I'd say (hard-to-handle vs. shoddy workmanship).

With the current route, it wouldn't matter. Boh passes right over that shop. Is there some other free file server other than Filespace? It would be helpful in providing some alternate routes. Edit: I justed tested Lyll on that ladder at the entrance near the beginning and the results are slightly different. Now I'll have to test the mother.

I remember reading a bit about a working Gamecube emulator. They were running Wind Waker, but all the polygons were transparent; made things look really wierd. I don't think there's a Gamecube emulator available to the public.

11000: I'm referring to a ladder in Pochi's area where you fall to the left, switch the right side, and hit the ground, when you're objective is to the left. I'm failing to see how this is helpful, especially since switching back to the other side causes you to hit the ladder and break your fall, slowing your descent. Staying to the left is definately faster. 30000: This is referring to the exit of the room of the room where you get the mattock. If you can push the block up a few spaces you could circumvent having to climb down a ladder. I'd check into that. 82400: I'm talking about the room where you pulled that stunt with your magic running out right in front of an inn with the mother (very impressive, I must say); I think it's the room right before the room with the crown. Instead of jumping down small a pit and then equipping the wings, you equip the wings and then walk down it. It's a short distance to cover, but we're here to shave off frames, aren't we? Either way, it's up to you. Also with the mother, when you take the "big plunge" to Keela's room, you could equip the wings to avoid having to jump over the peak. I'm seeing quite a few missed oppurtunities with the ladders. Climbing distances that you could fall down, not jumping all the way up, that sort of stuff. Of course, with how short these some of these distances are, it might be slower because of acceleration. Look into it. Using the wings to prevent bouncing shouldn't have too drastic an impact on your magic. Equipping them for a frame and unequipping them should be faster than bouncing, plus it has no impact on you magic meter. Onto the subject of the magic key: the shop beneath the mattock in Xenm's area sells a key, but it costs 80. It's less out of the way, but it's price may not justify grabbing it there.

Okay, I've done some testing on that ladder at the entrance. It seems that it's fastest to fall from the top, avoiding the ladder, and moving to the right as soon as possible without hitting that platform with the scorpion, even though you bounce twice (at least with Xenm; I'll have to test with Lyll). Looks like you were right with Xenm and Roas. With the mother you could switch to the wings at the last moment and avoid bouncing. These are some specific concerns with the approximate frame at which they occur. 11000: Falling to the left of the ladder instead of moving to the right would be faster. 30000: There are some fake walls above the ones you used that would allow to to bypass the oncoming ladder. Would it be faster using that route? 56000: Must you stop on those appearing blocks? 73400: Was that delay in grabbing the cross luck manipulation? 82400: Jump down that pit instead of equipping the wings and walking down it. It would be faster. 89000: Saving one key would have been faster than killing an enemy right before the crown. Now for some general stuff. 1. Wouldn't more liberal use of the jump boots in Lyll's area be helpful? 2. Equip the wings as the mother (I can never remember her name) at the last possible moment to avoid bouncing as often as possible. 3. I believe you could use the crowns to warp towards your destination, but I'm not familiar with where the paintings take you. I personally like how you beat the second boss with only one hit left. Very smooth! ;) Must be frustrating, spending all that time getting it right just to be shot down. I know how it feels. :p
