And of course this game gets accepted for publication within three seconds. Hey judges, a game doesn't have to have Megaman in it to be entertaining. How about getting around to looking at the other 50 or so submissions in the queue?
A movie that obsoletes another movie is published much faster than those that don't. It is difficult to determine whether a new run should be added. Generally, a movie that obsoletes another is published within 3 days, and a really good movie that doesn't obsolete anything takes a week to publish, or more. Just speaking from experience. As for the run, it's certainly more impressive than the last run I saw, and I wonder whether Angerfist will team up with someone else to do MM5. :) Voting yes, of course.

I tried a TAS of the game once and emulation was perfectly fine in VBA.

i have no idea how do you catch mew with this glitch but you can try getting another mew instead of getting two pokemons for HM, it would be faster, poké centers would be faster too ;)
You have to repeat the glitch again to get a second Mew, plus you already defeat a trainer so you need someone else. Instructions to perform Mew glitch are somewhere in this thread.

Found a shortcut in Chemical Plant Zone 2. Can only be done in Sonic and Tails mode. http://www.savefile.com/files/1040460

How do you manipulate the game to get a Female starter? :3 I like to make a team of all Females, since I myself am one. Just getting the starter to be one without a Gameshark Code is a real pain in the rear. Clue me in if you can. ^.^
I noticed that all starters (this applies in Pokemon R/B as well) have 7/8 chance of being male and 1/8 of being female. I believe the starter's stats are set when you look at them, but I'm not sure. You could try saving before you pick up the starters.

EDIT: I do have some suggestions now. You should Register your Bicycle to the Select button once you get it, it'll save you having to open the menu all of the time. And you can shave off a few seconds in the area where you catch the Pidgey, by just taking the exit on the right side of the field.
Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't realize what the SEL option underneath USE was. I tried it and thought it did nothing. I exited National Park the same way I came in because I'd rather fight a trainer with one Pokemon rather than a trainer with four.

I would give comments, except before the run gets to "Mr. Pokémon", the game goes into a fight, where the emulator starts messing with the menus, and then doesn't do anything. Maybe my VBA re-recorder is out of date?
Try playing the movie with a SRAM already in the folder where the Silver.gbc ROM is located. It seems that playing the movie without an existing SRAM causes desync. I have an SRAM in the .zip file. If that still doesn't work, run the movie using the savestate in the .zip. I fussed about the desync in the above post, but I think users are ignoring me for it. Either that or people just hate Silver. Edit: I responded to a deleted post.

Here is a test run of Pokemon Silver up to Ecruteak City getting Surf: http://www.savefile.com/projects.php?pid=286710 About the Silver run itself, I believe that the strategies in my run are good, although I don't know much about the game. I wanted to get more out of the Goldenrod Dept. Store than I actually did (I was hoping for Return, but Quilava wasn't happy enough :p ). Any comments on my run would be appreciated. See if you can spot what I did wrong early in the game. It affected my whole run.

Hi. New here. (Let me try to ask this in a way that does NOT constitute a ROM request...) Is it necessary to somehow hack together the two constituent ROMs of this game?
The lock-on feature on the Genesis carts already hacks them together for you. The S3&K ROM on the internet was dumped from the carts after they were locked on.

So VBALink only works with GBA games. Oh well. There's really not much point to supporting link cable runs anyway, because they make Pokemon runs way too easy. Though I'm interested in the Pokemon Gold run on the Japanese site. 2:21+3:10=5:31 No links, though.

It's not obvious. On an upslope, I make what appears to be an insignificant jump to the top of the slope, then reverse direction so that X is walking downward, and then jump onto the next ledge. Edit: The reverse takes two frames, so you won't see it at normal speed. By the way, the movie description should include "manipulates luck".

Manipulates luck. Don't forget that! May I suggest a description? [description] In Mega Man X3, you will find yourself finally using Zero's coveted sword. The author speeds through the game very rapidly, and uses the sword to beat the 8 bosses very quickly the second time around. This run is a whopping 1:36 faster than the last version, both by using some new tricks and playing with more precision. The page "Mega Man X Tricks" explains some of the tricks that are and/or can be used in the X series games. [/description]

Try using nitsuja's improved mupen64 rerecording version. It's the only mupen64 that plays .m64 files.

I only realized now that there was a trick I missed. I had discovered the trick during the Kaiser Sigma battle, but it could save time in the spike shaft in Doppler 2. If you use the Beam Saber just as X jumps off a wall (during the time you can't control him), you can jump again in air. Despite the missed trick, the run looks good as it is.

And I'm sure I've complained about this before, but why doth the MMX3 music sucketh so badly?
I'm not sure. Maybe they ran out of ideas, or never thought the music was that important. In my opinion, the stage music was OK, but I couldn't disagree that the boss battle song was just awful. I couldn't even believe they made it so short. They were better off reusing the X1 or X2 boss battle song.

2) What do you mean by "movie header"? Subtitles? Filenames? Movie entries shown on the webpage?
I mean the movie entry when it is published. Where it says: SNES Mega Man X2 in 32:23 by FractalFusion Is there any reason why it should be left out? Maybe the username change?

Happy New Year! This makes just about everybody, well except those in Hawaii. I don't really make resolutions, but if you want one, my resolution is to finish my Megaman X3 run. :)

I mentioned before, but I only found out the mistake after I alternated sides later on in the level, and I decided not to go back. I don't think I lost more than 5 frames anyway, and I don't like jumping up walls.

Here is my run up to getting the beam saber and leaving the room: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/545/MegamnX3.smv My run is currently faster than nitsuja's run by 85 seconds. I also noticed while watching nitsuja's run that, with the beam saber, you can partially charge up special weapons. So you can use a special weapon, charge it up, switch to X-Buster, and fire a charged shot and beam saber. This will be useful later on. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to complete the run before the new year, but I hope to get it done soon.

I use keyboard and that's it. When playing games, I have my right hand on the arrow keys and left hand on the letters. I arrange the controls so that jump is on the inside (index finger) and fire on the outside.

Actually, it's 5 damage every 2 seconds. You can't charge the buster fast enough. 2 damage/1 second: 16 seconds battle. e.g. X-Buster on Storm Eagle. 5 damage/2 seconds: ~13 seconds battle. e.g. X-Buster on Chill Penguin. 3 damage/1 second: 11 seconds battle. e.g. Chameleon Sting on Storm Eagle.

Oh. And I exploited a glitch in that fight. This run will now include in its description "dies to save time." Have Fun. :)
So you figured out. I wanted to keep it a secret. :) Does the dying trick also work against King 1 and/or King 2? It works on the Robot Master rematches.

Sorry. Just stating the obvious. Although I wondered if you thought that there was an opportunity to save more time in Storm Eagle and Flame Mammoth stages with the other weapons.

The Storm Tornado is useful for the giant sea serpent in Launch Octopus' stage, but other weapons may be useful as well. Other than that, nothing else. You're doing this only to save 5 seconds off the Storm Eagle battle.

Nice find. I never knew that. Though we should only use good ROMs when they exist.
