Yeah. It seems as though when I got the Speed Burner, I favored it over the Strike Chain.
I don't know why, but in the movie description, it doesn't say "Items: 100%", even though it says that in Blechy's movie description.
Edit: I am thinking of uploading some .avi movies to archive.org.

Looks pretty good. I believe too that at the second ladder, only two jumps should be made on the left wall (like you did). A third one doesn't seem to fit.
Edit: Never mind

From the beginning (frame 1) press start for two frames then release start for two frames, and repeat over and over until the 550th frame. Best with a hex-editor.
Actually, never mind. Just clip out the first 600 frames of DeHackEd's run and use that.

Rerun the movie as read-only from the beginning or a previous savestate. When you get to the part just before the mistake, make a savestate. Then disable read-only and re-record from the savestate.
Remember to back up your movies often.

For your information, there is a tanooki suit stashed somewhere. I'll leave it to you to figure out. :)
It's the only way to beat this level (assuming you didn't come in with flying power).
The gold ship magically spawned from a hammer bros. due to a special score and coin count after beating a stage.
Please try not to turn one of the map hammer bros. into a gold ship, and if it does, and you can't avoid it, reset the game and try again.
The gold ship is a time-waster on speedruns. You can't even skip it with a music box. The final prize is exactly the same as what you would get from the hammer bros.
The clouds do not work on automatic encounters and final stages. Better luck next time!

I worded it a bit strange. Speed Burner is faster than dashing but by very little. I just abused it like it was always better to use the Speed Burner, and as much as possible.
As for the jumping thing, throughout the run, I was not sure whether releasing and pressing B to jump as soon as possible (suppose I jump from the outside layer of the wall) was the best, or if it was better to wait out slightly (assuming the wall is arbitrarily high). I know that I should try to reach the next ledge as close to the height of a jump when possible. I think anyone who goes through the run frame by frame would be surprised at the inconsistency of my jumps.

Lots of close calls in here. (Far from perfect, but exciting and way better than I could do.)
Has there ever been a time attack of this game under these same rules? I think I've seen a 1:17 one but that had some other weird restrictions.
Yes there is. It's far more restrictive.
http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?playerid=5Edit: You mean a TAS with only the no-warp restriction? Chances are with the above TAS, any TAS with less restriction would not be accepted.
TAS aside, I recall that Radix only wants a 100% level speedrun if it must be warpless.

Looks like the rom used was: Mega Man X 2 (U) [o1]
Just FYI
Hmm... what does [o1] mean? I thought there was only one US version of Mega Man X2.
ROM sites have different names for ROM's, so I'm not sure about consistency.

Yes because its faster than the previous submission and i thought it looked better. One thing that caught my eye(might be nothing), in the first x hunter stage after the first 8 bosses. One of the ladders there. You charge up the fire beam(dunno what its called) and use it to reach the ladder, but you fall a little bit down before you grab the ladder.
It's probably a time-waster. As soon as I got the Speed Burner, I overused it as if I thought it was always faster than Strike Chain or just plain dashing. In this case, I basically used the Speed Burner as soon as possible without regard to height.
I know this run can be improved. Skipping the intro even more, jumping up ladders, using the Strike Chain more and the Speed Burner less, and especially jumping up walls. If anybody can tell me the optimum pattern for jumping up a straight wall, that would be great. (Or maybe I'll try and figure out myself.)

I noticed the internal clock stays the same on the VBA Emulator if you speed up the frames as well. I used to do that just to make eggs hatch faster. :3
So it indeed stays the same no matter what.
The internal clock acts in real time, but only when not recording. I recorded a run at 200% speed. Comparing to the computer clock, the in-game clock (always relative to the internal clock) ran twice as fast. I was worried before that I would have to play back a movie at the same speed with which it was made to avoid desync.
The timer that controls egg-hatching runs on the number of steps you take, not on any clock. So, generally speaking, speeding up emulation makes eggs hatch faster. :)
Edit: I think I got everyone worried about the situation. It wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. My post came at a time when I didn't have immediate access to Pokemon GSC and I didn't actually know how Maza's run desynced.

i found what i was looking for. not just + or -, but shift then + or -. thanks anyway
Then you probably have the official Snes9x v1.43 WIP/Final. There, shift + slows down emulation speed. In Snes9x v1.43 improvement (unofficial version), - slows down emulation speed. Of course, with the unofficial version, you can set the keys to whatever you like.

About the internal clock thing: I don't know about VBA but when i played Pokemon Crystal through with my phone (Nokia 3230) using vBoy emulator, it seemd to use the clock of the phone even though I was playing with double fps. So I played with double speed but the clock was workin in real time and was correct now matter what time I played it. Mayby VBA has also an internal clock something like this.
When not recording, VBA syncs the internal clock with the system clock. When recording, VBA syncs the internal clock with the game's frame counter.
I believe now that the desync in your movie was caused by some random timing discrepancy rather than the internal clock, but I won't be sure that the clock won't cause problems until someone makes substantial progress.

I can't run two Snes9x applications at once in Windows XP.
I can. I usually do it to watch runs of the same game simultaneously to compare them and see where one gets ahead of the other. (But, it won't work so well in this case, as his movies often eventually desync in the versions that can do that, which probably means I screwed something up.)
OK, I unchecked "Pause when inactive" and it works. It's strange, though. Both games react to button presses when unpaused, but in frame advance, only the current game reacts.

I tested it out but nothing seems to be wrong... yet. The internal clock does change with rerecord savestates, which is good(not normal savestates, though, which is confusing). I recorded directly from power-on and did a runthrough at 200% speed for about 3 minutes.
Maza, do you know when the movie desynced?

The movie desyncs? Might it have something to do with VBA's internal clock?
I'm really puzzled as to how the VBA internal clock works. The clock seems to run even when VBA is not executing (like how it's supposed to be). Perhaps it draws its time from the computer's clock. That's not the main point, however.
The main point is whether a movie run is dependent on the clock being set at the right time (the same time as when the movie was started). Setting the in-game time in no way changes the internal clock, and even if it did, the game draws from the internal clock before you even set the in-game time (when it displays the "what time is it" box) at the beginning. If this is true, then without an option that forces the internal clock to reset, a consistent GSC movie might be impossible.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Finished the teleportation stage. About 10 seconds faster, due to Wheel Gator. Hopefully I'll have this run finished in September or October.
The next movie update will be in the submission queue. :)

Good luck, Maza.
I recommend the following guide. Even though it's a multiplayer strategy guide, it covers RBY and GSC game mechanics.
http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gameboy/file/pokemon_strategy.txt
Also, check out the Pokemon RB thread somewhere in this forum. Tilus is working on a no-damage run for Pokemon RB.
