I remember checking out nitsuja's published run recently, just to see why this game is being compared to Sierra games. Anyway, nice that you glitched the game out even further. Yes vote.

You mean the pit where you shoot out the door on the bottom so that it fills with water? There's no reason for the game to do anything other than kill your character when you fall in the pit, so I believe it is impossible. But maybe if you were able to cross the pit entirely...

Initially, I thought that the charm in weapon switching would be enough to get a favorable reaction from everyone. In fact, I liked the run when I first saw it. But now that I have watched it at least twice, and carefully compared it to the Mega Man 6 published run, I no longer like it. One of the things that bugs me a lot is that the run doesn't really do instant weapon changing much justice. Mothrayas may have pointed out earlier, but I'll point out some things: * This run does Wind Man first, then Flame Man, like the published MM6 run. Wouldn't it be better to do Flame Man first to get the Rush Jet Adaptor? The Rush Jet Adaptor stands to gain a lot of use now because of instant weapon changing, and it would be useful in Wind Man's stage. * This run takes the lower boss door to Centaur Man rather than the higher door, like the published MM6 run. Now that one can switch instantly to Rush Jet Adaptor, wouldn't it be better to take the higher door? * This run takes damage, twice, on the shield cannon things in Mr. X's stage 1, like the published MM6 run. Wouldn't it be better just to kill them? Certainly, it is possible, since both this run and the published run kill a shield cannon in Knight Man's stage! Of course, the published run can't afford to change weapons, but this run does not have that excuse. So, you see, the point of doing this run is supposed to be to enable all kinds of upper hands to situations like these. This run doesn't seem to understand the point of what instant weapon switching is able to do, beyond "instant switching makes it faster than the published run" and "Rush Jet Adaptor is a bit faster than climbing a ladder". As pointed out by Mothrayas, there are other problems as well, such as luck manipulation of boss patterns, late hits on bosses, extra missed shots that make it look sloppy, and poor choices (fly over or take damage on some Mettool instead of just killing it?). Although I would like an old Mega Man 1-6 TAS with instant weapon switching on this site, I agree with the others that this shouldn't be the one. I vote no.

I watched the run a few days ago. Please note that the run was made with the U ROM, as opposed to the J ROM as linked before. However, as to my knowledge, there aren't any visibly significant differences as far as I can tell regarding the two ROMs. This run just happens to collect a lot more fruit, and so delay the bonus screens. While this may be a basis for speed/entertainment tradeoff (see Sonic the Hedgehog), the author has not even acknowledged so. Please also note that the SMS Wonder Boy publication also obsoleted the linked Adventure Island run, but not without controversy. It is the responsibility of the author to make a post or edit the submission text to clearly explain the choices (such as version and goals) that he used for his TAS. Since this author has failed to communicate this (or communicate in almost any way for that matter), it is his own loss.

The translation patch goes even further, and gives him bad grammar as well." added, where Kevin appears to do critical: "Apparently, Kevin did tech damage on a hit here. May be a critical. In this run, level-ups raise power (strength) first, then anything else once the cap is reached." added, shortly after first meeting carlie: "The game has Carlie speak in a childish manner and with a lisp. The original Japanese reinforces this by spelling all her text in kana." added, first level-up after entering waterfall cave after priest of light: "You'll be seeing level-ups a lot." "Use something to raise Attack (Kevin)" -> "Use Drake Scale to raise Attack (Kevin)" "Anyway, use some stuff to raise attack." -> "Anyway, use Drake Scale to raise attack." added, first time on Golden Road "Note that the game has a day of the week system based on the elemental spirits. On a day of an elemental spirit, element magic power is increased. But this TAS doesn't use spells, so no need to worry about it." added, after getting the dreamsee herb on Golden Road "Dreamsee Herb is used to switch day and night. Some areas also force day and some force night. This is abused in this run." added, dreamsee herb on golden road again "Another Dream Herb." in dwarf hideout "Buy a few things." -> "Buy some new weapons. Needle Glove (Kevin), Framea (Lise), and Baselard (Hawk)." forcena "Use a Dreamsee Herb. Switches day and night." -> "Use a Dream Herb to trigger someone's appearance." at byzel "Now to buy some stuff from the "Black Market"" -> "Now to buy some stuff from the Black Market. "This person gives you the Chibikko Hammer." -> "This person gives you the Chibikko Hammer, required for the next part." "Who's this? Mataro?" -> "Who's this? Mataro? Fiend's Claw (Kevin), Glaive (Lise), and Misericorde (Hawk)." added, against machine golems in sub-zero snowfield, "Use Siren Claw (Wind)." added, at gildervine "Use Drake Scale to raise Strength." "Anyway, Dangaard comes in four stages. Each one must be defeated." -> "Anyway, Dangaard comes in four stages. Each one must be defeated. Molebear Claw (Earth) is used four times to beat him quickly." "Now to go and fight the Moon God-Beast Dolan. This is a really hard battle (in casual play)." -> "Now to go and fight the Moon Mana Beast Dolan. This is a really hard battle." "Buy some weapons for the last time." -> "Buy some weapons for the last time. Roton Knuckle (Kevin) and Sheol Knife (Hawk)." 447 "???????" -> "Hm... interesting battle." "Apparently these enemies here are really weak, as Lise can tell you." -> "Apparently these enemies here are really weak." Also, I added which items were used, when they were used. I used the names Molebear Claw, Siren Claw, Cerebus Claw, Poseidon Claw, Drake Scale, Moon Coin, and Papa Poto Claw. You'll see them when they are used against bosses. And yes, I had earlier changed "This Sword" back to "This sword" on account of capitalization error, but then I decided that I liked "This Sword" better, so I changed all "sword" to "Sword" if it refers to the Mana Sword.

Bernka, So far it seems that no one else is able to play the movie correctly. Could you replay the movie to make sure it works? If it works, please tell us which settings you used (which BIOS you used; Configuration -> Bios). Could you also check and see if the movie you uploaded here is the same as the one you are using?

This run appears to be a "X-only 8-boss Ultimate Armor-only run". Unfortunately, there's been no justification so far of this goal, as the author's description, as well as the TAS quality, seem to indicate that the author doesn't know how this game works. It is possible that he is emulating input from the published run, like in the Mega Man X2 and X3 cases which happen not to be much worse, but exhibit a lack of insight.

Nice work! It'd be nice if there were some description of the new techniques displayed in this run. For example, apparently firing charged shots lets you jump again? But anyway, clear yes vote.
After doing an air dash, firing at the pink or red/green level while pressing the jump button at the same time causes X to jump in the air. This is very useful when the Arm chip (a stock from which you can fire red/green level shots without charging) is acquired. I heard this can also be done in MMX2.

Strangely, I saw the game over at stage 11 and thought at first it was a desync. Then, I tried to read the submission text for how this game over saved time, and there was no explanation. Only after thinking about it for a moment, did I realize that the game trolled me. Yeah, this game is horribly glitched.

Zanoab, I don't know if this works or not, but check your settings. Firmware: Should be the exact same settings as stored in the movie file. The emulator will not check this for you. Also, check emulation settings, and see whether "Enable Advanced Bus-Level Timing" should be checked or not.

Hello, ColorAndPSK, and welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, Yunshui's movie is faster than yours. Even though the movie end is not the same, Yunshui ends at frame 21675, while at the same spot, your movie is at about 21920. So it is about 250 frames (about 4 seconds) slower. Please watch the jumps carefully. In the last level, some jumps are partially blocked by the boxes, so it slows you down. Note that Yunshui's movie had been rejected for entertainment reasons, so another movie of this game will likely be rejected unless the new run is very much better.
Tool-Assisted Movie in real time run
This was recorded in a real time run, so default speed is used in the whole run
These are not valid goals or methods for making good TASes. We expect that, when making a TAS, one uses all the tools available to produce a TAS for the purpose of watching the movie. Most TASes use many rerecords, depending on the game (Yunshui used over 3000 for his submission). Also, to control the input precisely, use frame advance. Default speed cannot do this.

Thanks for the clear up, but the reason I asked about the version number is. I was playing both v 1.0 and 1.1 and it seemed like 1.0 was more..slower overall? I'm not entirely sure of all the version changes from 1.0 to 1.1 since I'm pretty much new here.
I don't think there is much of a change between v1.0 and v1.1. I heard that there may have been glitches in v1.0 that were fixed in v1.1, but I don't remember. There are definitely some glitches in the JP v1.0 version that were fixed. I have also heard that there is a game-breaking bug in v1.0 that causes the game to "reset" randomly, while keeping all weapons. I have never experienced it so I cannot attest to it. I don't know if it is an emulator problem or not.

This run is great as always. To sparky, parrot14green, and woabclf: Thank you very much for all the hard work. You all deserve a . sparky: Are you encoding the run? Since you have a nicovideo channel, it seems likely that you would want to encode it.

There are enough glitches in this game to fill 5 whole normal-sized pages. Documenting them all would be a monumental task. :)

Just a question, will you guys be incorporating the glitch in Sigma's third stage to skip Armored Aramdillo? From the videos I've seen, he does show up anyway. But when I did the glitch, performed on v1.1 he didn't show up at all. But I'm assuming the run much better done on v1.0?
He only shows up because parrot14green chose to make him show up there by jumping. Anyone can just continue without jumping in the room, and Armadillo will never show up. As far as I know, the version number has nothing to do with it. We are using v1.1.

When you get to that ledge, do you have to press X again after you wall jumped, or do you only have to worry about the altitude you jumped at?
I don't understand your question. I might as well answer yes. Anyway, I've tested, and it is very difficult to perform. I'll describe as much as I can. Positioning of wall jump 1 (this is the wall jump that takes you to the hanging ledge): - Must be done 5-7 pixels away from the wall. - Error of 2 frames horizontally; assuming non-dash (slow speed). - Vertical error is essentially 1 frame (unless you can somehow come from underneath very accurately; then you have a few more frames) Positioning of wall jump 2 (this is the wall jump on the hanging ledge): - Error of 2-3 frames horizontally. Here, you have dash speed. - Vertical error is 7 frames. Provided you let go of left/right when you get the correct horizontal positioning, and the vertical positioning of wall jump 1 is correct. I would suggest not even trying at all in a speedrun. But if you really want to test it, what I suggest you do is TAS (yes) the part a few times, so you know what you're up against.

Just an update. We are now halfway through Boomer Kuwanger's stage. I discovered that you can glitch the elevator part. You can climb up to the top, die, and warp to the next area. Only condition is that the screen must scroll up for it to work; but just touching the elevator platform once and then going up is enough. From testing, it appears to be about 30 frames faster.

1 is image A, 0 is image B. We take 66% of the first frame and 33% of the second (note the alignment above). The result is that 66% of the resulting image is image A over all these frames. Unfortunately, this is normal up to 50% probability.

Welcome to TASVideos, Zergrinch. I'm aware of the Heroes of Mana transliterations. However, I avoided using them because of the familiarity of the Corlett translation (it seems those are the only transliterations people use widely, and there isn't often a reason to use one over the other). I'll probably stick with what I've got, at least for place name transliteration. But "antagonist" is definitely better than "Enemy force". Oh, and yes, as for Kevin, it's supposed to be "mother" and not "parents". I messed up there. Please be patient, as I am so busy lately. I'll make more comments later...
