Very nice movie. Pretty cool that you trigger the ending that quickly and beat the game with low-level weapons. I didn't find the plot elements to be incredibly overbearing... it was a lot lighter than the runs of the other MMZ games already published. None of those stupid talking elf babies. Despite relative simplicity this might be one of the better runs among them if only for that reason.

Each run clearly states it goals. If the first goal of the run is "aims for fastest time", then it's pretty silly to give this run less than an 8 or so for technical merit unless you can spot time improvements. If you can, you may have even done somebody a service by awarding that rating. If the first goal was "be as entertaining as possible" this run might rate lower technically. If the primary goal was "aims for highest score", "defeat all bosses", "do not use zipping" or "take minimum damage" it wouldn't score very high at all. There shouldn't be any pressure to rate things to a certain standard, but people should be reminded to keep the run's goals in mind when voting or rating.

Hm, sorry. I guess I figured KI2 was released on SNES too because I remember reading about that in Nintendo Power years ago. Okay, so AceOfShades' post was that much more significant; this run is good.

That's a very good point. PS1 would also have a few games that could rival this... plus there's KI2 on SNES, and KI Gold on N64... but yes, this game is a very intense SNES fighter. I'm voting yes, this was very fun.

I've never played the game and I watched the movie before reading the comments. It sure looked a lot more trivial than it actually is. I guess that's a good thing? The teleport added a bit of interest to the whole thing. It's too bad it came into play so late. In terms of entertainment this movie is mediocre at best, but it does appear optimized.

I can't believe I watched the whole thing with the music playing. If it weren't for the music, this wouldn't have been that bad to watch. It looks fairly optimized, I liked how you weaseled your way through with three hearts. I vote yes on condition that viewers watch this with sound disabled and play tunes of their choice.

I like mikwuyma's comment. I'd suppose that it's easier to make a hard game look easy than it is to make a bad game look good. I've played this one a lot, but that was about three years ago. Here I am, trying uselessly to remember the order and methods that are supposed to be used to play this game. Eh. I really dig how many movement types are necessary for optimal speed in this game. That variety helps keep things interesting.

Can you guess the technical reason behind these?
Keeping in mind that I don't know anything about low-level Rockman mechanics, the two Cutmans somehow remind me of the way that, in RM2/MM2, Rockman can stand next to Wily 3's boss while detonating a crash bomb to damage it. Are they similar, um, phenomena?

Wow, that boss skipping trick is pretty funky. The highlight for me was the very short and very weird Cutman battle though, I think. Something from the next few frames after selecting 'G' would make an excellent screenshot.

The ladder scrolling glitch reminded me of Rockman. The rope skipping was also pretty cool. Nice new tricks, and I didn't consider this a hard watch in general either. I'll vote yes.

I voted now, after publication, for two reasons: 1) this is a badass improvement of my favorite TAS and 2) it makes that "meh" vote look even sillier.

I was sort of expecting to be bored of all of the drilling, but watching the placement of the drilling, the use of it as a pure mobility device, and mixing it up with the quicker throws kept the movie relatively entertaining in my opinion. It looks like there's some room for improvement in a couple of the boss fights (Dirtbag and Leatherhead stuck out for me). I'm voting yes. And yes, I'd love to see a 2P.

I like the run, nice improvements, seems a bit more, uh, "professional-looking" too. I'm voting yes because it's an improvement, but because there's likely another version coming sometime soon I could see how judges could want to put this one off.

Very nice. I thought when you said you got a shield (...the Noble Armor?) it might cost you in messages saying "Donnie is strong against water attacks" but it doesn't look like it came up. That may indeed have been a time saver. I'll vote yes. Nice changes.

You know what I just realized? These runs are backwards in their objectives. The all-emeralds run should go for fastest stage times and the non-emeralds run should go for the fastest movie time period, including having the input cut real short. Wouldn't that make more sense?
Heh, I see what you're saying. Make one run have purely the fastest possible start-to-finish time (like nearly all movies on the site), and the other could have optimized level times while ending with full completion since its time would not be optimal anyways. That would be a nice standard... but there's no way you could convince everybody.

Yes, and at this time of year both of those things are in short supply.

The players did have the opportunity to vote on the console and the game of choice... I don't think there could be much more done to engineer the contest to the participants without giving one team or individual a great advantage. That could still result in a great movie, but it would be a crappy contest. It's hard to think of a game that is very familiar to everyone that hasn't already been clobbered. I mean, we could pick Super Mario Bros 3, but then the entire contest would likely be decided within a half dozen frames... not that this would be a bad thing.

Heh, this was a very long time ago. I really liked this topic. Would anyone want to do this again? I'm sure a lot of people would say this, but I feel like I've got a good game for such a contest in mind.

I enjoyed watching this run a lot. I don't really consider the special stages particularly boring. I've never got all the emeralds in this game... it was cool to see. As for whether this is worth publishing as a 100% run (a debate that was left aside for a new one about a page ago): It makes more sense to me to allow more than one run of a game that allows different endings or recorded amounts of completion (ie. Super Mario World, any Metroid, Sonic Games) than it does to include variants on a game that always ends the same way (ie. Super Mario Bros 1-3). I like those SMB1-3 runs, but they seem borderline "no shurikens" to me. They are still imposing a restriction on the player that doesn't exist in the game. If I had to pick between publishing warpless SMB and this run, I'd pick this run. Sonic 1 allows for 100% as well as any%, and SMB is binary (finished fastest or not finished fastest). In any case, I'd rather see all entertaining and qualified movies be published as long the resources exist to support that.

It's really cool that you've been pumping these things out like this... the quality of this run sure doesn't suffer for it. It's a good improvement and this isn't a completely trivial platformer (especially with the lag). I've voted yes.

Regarding Lashiec, if you're still stuck... A few battles using Negatis could make a big difference to the usefulness of Wren and Kyra. If you needed extra skill uses (ie. Warla) and HP you could do it before that healing point in the Air Castle.

Nice improvement, and a pretty fun movie! I'll vote yes on this. Boy, I'm glad that cat is in this game, he makes the later levels a lot more interesting.
