Maybe so. But a skipped TAS won't be accepted here mostly because it would be too much like the published TAS (with only about 21% difference), not because the level skip itself is banned by the movie rules. If the movie difference is greater than 50%, then I'd support setting a different category here as well, similar to speedrun.com.
There is no arbitrary cutoff point to this. Standard "any%" means having meaningful progression. The reason there is a RTA category for level skip is that it is a good challenge with the 15 min time limit for new human runners, and a good way for more experienced players to sharpen their later level skills. But it's meaningless for a TAS.

Just thought of another example. In DOS Prince of Persia, the first 3 levels can be skipped with Shift+L. And it's not a cheat, it's intended to be kind of a demo of the later levels as you get only 15 minutes to complete the game instead of the 60 that you normally get. Unsurprisingly 15 minutes is more than enough for a speedrun to beat the game from level 4 onwards. But the published TAS does not skip the first 3 levels. There was an older TAS that took advantage of the level skip but was not even submitted. But if hypothetically an improved level skip TAS was submitted, I don't it think it should or will be accepted even as a separate branch, let alone obsolete the current publication.

Can we at least agree on these things? 1. This TAS doesn't use any password. No cheating. World selection is added by the hack creator and written in the manual (readme.txt). 2. The hack creator allows starting from World 8. Worlds 1-7 are optional for getting true ending in this hack. 3. There's no rule in our current Wiki: MovieRules that says a TAS has to start from the very first level of the game, or level select should be banned. 4. As a reference, SMB "Both Quests" RTA allows pushing button B to select a world. Even the best SMB speedrunners use it to start at World 8 for the second quest.
1. Yes. 2. Yes, but that doesn't mean first sevens levels are "optional". The hack creator doesn't make rules for any leaderboards or this site. 3. No, there is a rule that says levels must not be skipped. And also it must be common sense. 4. You have dismissed more relevant examples, but want to compare to a run that only uses the level select only after beating all the stages?

You can imagine the world selection as a Warp Zone.
I guess that is precisely where we agree to disagree. One is literally just some text that can be clicked on and the other is a nicely incorporated gameplay that requires more gameplay to reach in the first place.

True, you don't have to earn it in this hack, because it's a free gift from the hack creator. So what's wrong of using it?
Easy difficulty is a gift from developers in a lot of games but we prefer harder difficulties if it offers interesting challenge. I think the same reasoning applies here.

I'm not familiar with other games (most game doesn't allow you to simply select the last level). But I am familiar with the "both quests" RTA category. The second quest is done by selecting World 8 in the title screen, just like in this TAS.
Good example but the difference is that in that run you "earn" the right to select the level within that run.

It's an any% run. It doesn't intend to show all of a hack. It simply aims to beat this hack as fast as possible. Even the published "all levels" run doesn't show all of this hack. For example, this hack has hidden new power-ups, and the published run got none of them.
It would be an any% run if you select the first level and use some kind of glitch to skip to the last level. Just selecting last level might considered as an IL and the current movie rules say - "Individual game modes (level sets, episodes, etc.), including those unlocked using passwords, are also acceptable as separate branches." A simple question, do you think if there were RTA leaderboards for this hack, "any%" would be selecting the last level and completing it? I highly doubt it.

A TAS can't make everyone happy. If you don't like the any% run, watch runs with other goals instead.
Agreed, but doesn't mean I shouldn't my opinion on this one.

Regardless of what the rules say, what the author of the hack or the devs of the game allowed, selecting the last level and completing is just lame and completely misses the point of showing off a hack.

Can you elaborate what you mean? You posted in a public forum and how do you expect it to be a "secret"? There are DMs for that. This thread for sharing flash games wishlist and please let's keep it that way.

I am not entirely sure about how this game works but isn't it better to choose to bowl first? Isn't game over as soon as you score a run in the second innings?

Oh, alright. I just assumed that the game ran at the monitor's refresh rate since an old Flash game that runs specifically at 75 FPS seemed a little odd to me.
My best guess is that the physics engine runs at that framerate.

Nice to see the flash wishlist being fulfilled fast. Yes Vote. Regarding the framerate, it should be 75fps actually according to the SWF metadata.

This year we don't have that much of a competition here due to a big dispersion of published movies in favour of the 1st place
Actually it's not as big of a gap. With the help of our API and some python scripting, here is the data for total time of published movies by every author with 10+ movies.
PlayerTotal Time (s)
DarkMan42522329.399184052167
ShesChardcore 19622.18452187686
Winslinator 12463.156000336052
Alyoshya 11264.020289143351
aiqiyou 8832.034796165082
eien86 8768.345257829931
EZGames69 7919.395069055278
ThunderAxe31 7535.221686966087
Spikestuff 5991.617737990809
MarioAtWork 2165.365922255246
I know that this is not a perfect factor to judge (longer movies have cutscenes bloating the time etc.), but so isn't the total number of published movies. That said what we can agree upon is that all these people here had a fantastic year of TASing and I would like to nominate all of them.

I would like to nominate rythin. By no means a "rookie" to TASing but she just happens to have her first year here and had an amazing year of publications, including the first flash submission, the first macOS publication as well as the record breaking 541st submission. I would also like to nominate Pankaj. He very quickly got the hang of TASing and already has a 3D Prince of Persia submission. Also, I would like to leave this meme here.
