As someone who had this game as a kid and beat it awhile back, this was neat to watch! Interesting to me that for the 2nd alley level that if you have over a minute of bonus time that they don't show the minute in the next screen where it shows your bonus time, although it appears that you still have it.

A question for Sonic experts: can you enter bonus levels after you already got 7 emeralds?
You can not enter the special stages after you get 7 emeralds , even if you have 50 rings when touching the signpost.

I watched both OoB runs, and while gameplay in them looks completely different, and it feels like all of the gameplay is skipped, in terms of time alone only about 30% of the in-bounds time is cut. OoB definitely doesn't skip majority of the game. It relates to in-bounds much like [3570] Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog by Aglar in 14:13.87 to [1937] Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog "no zips" by Aglar in 17:36.58. Not sure if avoiding OoB should count as a Standard category, but I feel this run has enough cool stuff in it to be accepted to Moons. If somebody makes a full run with OoB that could be a separate category due to fundamentally different gameplay. If by our past borderline, the level of praise and consensus we have pro mooning this run is not enough, then I think that borderline didn't make much sense. And I repeat every once in a while that we may lower the feedback requirements for Moons a bit if we feel it makes sense for a given game. So yeah I plan to accept this to Moons.
awesome! this game really means a lot to me and i have wanted a tas of this game to exist for so long; glad you think it's worth being accepted :) if i ever get the itch to return to this game, maybe i'll try an oob run at some point :D

I have been working on this TAS quite a bit, and I feel it's pretty much complete. I need to resync the ending and look into menus, and may also look into possible improvements, but am pretty happy with this currently. Userfile: User movie #637817260302415928 Encode: Link to video

Snow white is a game I really loved on the SNES in my childhood, and I am working on a TAS of easy mode. I'm working on this difficulty because the other ones require you to get more coins, and also increase the health of the final boss, so this lets me just run through the levels as quickly as possible with minimal exploration. I do think a difficult run could be interesting, but the final boss would be over 2 minutes long. I have currently finished 3 of the levels and a WIP is available at: Link to video My userfile is at User movie #637803148610078041

In the Ask A Judge thread, there was discussion on whether exiting a course early counts for an "all levels" run, but I see no mention of this in the submission text. I get the impression that if a course consits of multiple levels, and you end the course without playing all those levels, then it is an "all courses" run but not an "all levels" run. It's a quality run and I'm voting yes anyway, but this thread strikes me as a good place to discuss the label of the movie.

I am running all levels, but it is possible to exit a course early and there is still internal data indicating all the levels of the course as being completed, but it doesn't save the progress toward getting the next password. Is it necessary to get the game to a state in which it will give me the password, and if so, is it necessary to have the password be shown on screen?
For this run, I always reset to exit the course after the last level of the course has been completed. The only parts I skip are congratulations screens and such. My definition of 'all mazes' in the context of this tas is a time showing up on the screen that you get if you use the DATA password.

Congrats on your first solo completed TAS, Garbi! What made you decide to skip OoB glitches? And how different would the run look if you'd used them?
There have been previous TASes of Cameltry submitted, and the general consensus has been that they made the run not as entertaining. With them I could just clip through the walls straight to the goal. There is a nicovideo TAS that uses them here. https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm4581333

I was curious, so decided to test, and I did find a shortcut if you enter the second waterfall. Link to video

Was able to improve a lot of the early levels quite a bit, and have submitted the TAS at https://tasvideos.org/Forum/Topics/23072 .

I actually attempted at TASing this a few years ago because of your GDQ run. But I gave up in stage 2 because of lag in the UFO section. I would be open to picking it back up and helping out if you want.
That would be awesome! thanks; it will be fun :D

I have loved this game and ran it for a long time, and am thinking this will be my next TAS. The category I am thinking of doing All Levels. The game is divided up into 2 sets of 15 levels (with 1 lategame level being identical w/ a different name, and the bosses being the same). I am unsure how to handle switching between sets of levels, as they both activate credits, so I may just reset after dealing the last hit to the final boss in the first set of levels. This is a preview of the first level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCRNqNEnzpU There was a thread for the SNES version awhile back. But I will be running on the Genesis version, as there's something like 4 or so fewer minutes of lag. Luckily the music level glitch where you can keep jumping up works in the GEN version as well, One tricky thing I am noticing so far with optimization is the end of level marble scenes; unlike in the first Bubsy, you can't just walk into the goalpost with no speed to have no marbles spawn, and I am unsure exactly what causes fewer marbles to spawn; I do notice that when I jump into the marble instead of falling into it, fewer marbles spawn. Due to the level not ending until none of the marbles are in the level, it's optimal to collect them as fast as possible, but each marble does take a frame to count down at the end of the level.

Congrats on finishing this tas! This was a lot of fun to watch :) I did notice a bonus game after Fase 5, that I don't usually get when doing runs, although I'm unsure if that's due to this version being different in that regard, or due to you destroying more enemies and getting the bonus due to that, in which case I'm unsure if not killing some of the enemies would be faster than taking the bonus game.

as an update, I am still working on this. I took a pretty long break due to computer issues, but after getting that fixed I am working on this again, and have managed to save about 3 seconds so far, and made an earlier cycle on Expert 1 on the 2nd plane.

Have completed all of the levels now!!! I still want to go back and see if there are more optimizations before submitting, however. This completes the game in 37:03, but resets after completing courses earlier than the current rta wr does, so accounting for that, this run is roughly 16 minutes faster than the all worlds rta wr so far. My userfile is available at http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/75680176956246947 . An encode is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPFtTztV-D4 . I still need to cut out some extra frames that are in the movie file.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification :)

If the game records your completion across soft resets or something, they're still allowed: [1901] NES Rockin' Kats by FatRatKnight, Tompa, pirate_sephiroth & MESHUGGAH in 16:33.71. So existing the course is also allowed, unless it contradicts your primary goal. Some people might argue that exiting levels early does contradict the goal of completing all levels.
There is a hidden code that lets you view all of the times for the levels, and my goal is to have times for all of the levels displayed if you use the code after the movie is finished, which only happens if you do all of the level, so I am counting that as completion.

The way the game that I am TASing(Cameltry for SNES) works is that you have to beat a set of courses, then it gives you a password(which is the same every time) to go to the next set, and only the final set of courses is necessary for the credits to be shown.

Have the first 8 courses/53 levels done now; went back afterwards and redid a lot of the levels as I learned how to use tasstudio's button holding patterns to optimize some of the levels more efficiently. I've decided to not allow clipping through any unintended walls or pegs or such, even if its a case which is normally possible in rta, as later on doing that makes a lot of levels much shorter and not as fun. have the first 39 levels done now, and also worked on improvements on some of the earlier levels. Main improvements were due to bouncing out of bricks after breaking them to regain speed more quickly. One glitch that I'm not sure if I should include is clipping through the pegs, as it's technically possible rta, but seems to work kind of similarly to the oob and is fairly inconsistent generally, aside from the special 6 clip which I am able to get most of the time in rta. I'm using it for now but may drop it depending on feedback, I'll make a youtube upload after completing 2nd plane which is 53 levels in. I do have an old upload on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iC4o7gECqY0 although it's fairly out of date. Latest movie file is available at http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/75535296223371973 .

I am starting work on an all worlds tas of this game, which will go through all 16 courses/100 levels, and not use the glitch to skip through walls, and so far I am complete through beginner 3. Definitely planning on improving these levels(training 5 in particular feels like it can be faster). My current progress is available on http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/75448111883795937 . I am also planning on using the japanese version, Cameltry, instead of the US version, as you can press start to skip the intros after beating courses, and there is also a different final level that I am pretty sure is shorter.

Awesome tas! I wasn't aware of all these glitches, and seeing them is really cool. It also seems like they're replicable rta, which is cool. I also prefer the genesis music.

Congrats! This was an entertaining run to watch. The double speedshoe mechanic is so cool for tases.
