That could be annoying if the file was sufficiently big, although I'd be surprised if they got sufficiently big in the first place. If it was a big enough problem, I'd imagine that people would simply develope universal SRT tools. Heck, at the very least there could be a simpler version of my anime DVD counting program which solves the same problem ; it's just a small program to keep everything correctly numbered, but, for example, when I bought Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki DVD 2, it ended up being #3 on the list so that it could be next to Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki DVD 1. Makes sense, right? Except, like I said, in order to keep the DVDs properly numbered I would have had to update over 800 lines. Bleh. So, it might be annoying, but it'd be an easy problem to overcome.

I think that would be very nice, although I wouldn't say it'd be needed. At the very least emulators could do playback ; it looks to me like the format is simple enough that you could just make the files by hand. On a side note, I do believe that's some 3x3 Eyes. :)

http://www.kraftfam.org/~erk/nesvideos/mmz-gigafrost-warp.zip It goes completely through the game. Unfortunately, I think I can improve the final boss by about a second (by saving for a fully-charged shot instead of performing the last slash I did ; cost is 30 frames but I won't have to wait another 90 frames for the final hit.) This is really bad because that battle was really sweet... and with the change I need to make I don't know that I'll be able to do that awesome ring-around-the-X at the end. Input goes past the credits to save. Maha Ganeshariff was... bleh... but I'm not sure I can do better... hmmm... except maybe with some health? I might need to get a lot... and getting the health might drastically worsen the luck already... hmmm... But, yeah, I guess I'm going to fix that thing with X before I submit. File also includes the following save states: Save 1 - Beginning of Aztec Falcon Stage Save 2 - Base Invasion Save 3 - Final Stage 1 Save 4 - Final Stage 2 Save 9 - Final Stage 3

My dorms fire alarm broke one night, about 3-4 in the morning, so we all run outside, wait, come back in......and it goes off AGAIN, run outside, wait, come back in, goes off AGAIN, im pretty sure 99% of the people said fuck it and went back to sleep(thats what i did)
We had something similar happen at the old place that our company used to work at. However, that fire alarm was not the sort of thing you could sleep through. Heck, you couldn't even work...

Well, I'm cheering for you, if only because of my (incomplete) Mega Man Zero 100% Hard Mode run. The criticisms here are the same I was receiving, of course, although I didn't receive any of the useful SRAM ideas then (probably because nobody has finished Mega Man Zero at all, though, which is completely my fault considering I was working on that run, too, and I'm on the last friggin level. Oh god, I want to work on it now... damn you failing hard drives! Damn you!!!)

You like lolis don't you Gigafrost? :)
I do enjoy many shows and like many characters that are loli, although if you're really asking whether or not I LIKE like lolis then I must admit I'm confused how that came from just the wallpapers? (Mostly because I never considered Mahoro and Chii to be loli...)

Mine all have a common theme that should stand out very quickly. First, for my three computers at home, I have one collection which also shows my Winamp skins: http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/7914/wallpapersxp2.jpg (The middle computer is the one I pretty much was doing all my TAS stuff on and is the one that's currently down but not out.) This is the main screen on my laptop (careful... not resized because I didn't want to distort it... tools to properly do that are at home...) http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9978/nanohacoolbackground2cf9.png This is the second screen on my laptop (again, not resized because I didn't want to distort it...) http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/4845/sugintouqs6.jpg Honorable mention goes to my previous second laptop screen (generated from my raytracer, resized because it uses standard dimensions) http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/1194/o8qr5.png

I post on Gaia Online. Every time I've thought of posting about TASVideos on the main forum I got this really sick feeling that I'd be bombarded with hundreds of idiots yelling "cheating!" and pretending they know a game better than everybody else but not really. (Hell, we get enough of that crap with normal speedruns on Youtube.)

Hmmm. I don't drink. It almost sounds like I'm the only one here like that. Not that that's a problem, hehehe.

What if there were two? Huh?
Then this would be ebaumsworld/gameFAQs/nintendo forums, and no one of intelligence would stick around.
Which is kind of scary, I guess, since on lots of other forums I post on I'm about a silly as Bag of Magic Food. Maybe. Possibly. I dunno. But that might mean we are only one fluke away from total destruction of everything TAS! (Or not.) Personally, I enjoy BoMF's jokes enough of the time to like having him around. :)

The thing that definitely makes it ambiguous is that Smash already has limited hammer attacks. And my immediate testing (on a GBA here at work during my lunch break) shows that the UP+ATTACK for Hammer, while powerful, does require some charge time, while normal hammer attacking (which Smash can do) can do fairly big damage in rapid succession. They're pretty closely tied in eyeing-time, actually. Moley could be the interesting exception since he's a ground target and he has a good "waiting to appear" time after the battle has begun, meaning the attack isn't as wasted there. I'll definitely test the edge cases. The one major advantage of Smash that I think you're missing is the rock ability, which can be used to dodge (invincibility) and which might also come in handy against Gobbler (shark boss; slowly sinking rock hurts him real good.)

As long as you're meaning to say "four SPs?" Yeah, I agree. (I only have four Gameboy Advanced and all of them are SPs.) As for attacking, I was thinking mostly Smash, but perhaps with Hammer for some bosses? I have to compare damages before I'll know for sure, of course. The good news is that I have acquired another hard disk for my broken computer. Tonight I'm hoping to finish getting it up and running. That means re-acquiring my Mega Man Zero run and being able to finish that, of course. :)

The problem with UFO Kirby is you lose it after boss fights, leaving you naked afterwards and with some very limited choices for the final battles. (Unless you unlock the entire route and gain access to the ability-switch room, which is most definitely slower.) Most likely, you'll actually need to do something such as: -"Speed ability" to get to the Area 2 boss quickly -Ditch ability for a stronger ability (rock) for the battle -"Speed ability" to unlock ALL critical areas (no bosses) -Ditch ability to obtain more powerful "boss finishing" ability (Smash?) -Finish off all bosses in a really short period of time In fact, this is fully what I intend to do for the TAS I plan on creating. But, yeah, I have it for GBA, too. Actually, I'm so obsessed that I have four of my own cartridges as well as four of my own GBAs (SPs) to ensure that I can play it with as many friends as I want. (Well, I also have four GBAs so that it's trivial to play a multi-person game of Four Swords Adventure on the Gamecube as well.)

It's been a long time since anybody has posted in this topic. I have interest in doing this game again thanks to actually trying to speed run it. Fortunately, that speed run attempt is quelling my urge to TAS my speed run path/strategy and simply come up with a better TAS strategy. I just have to finish my Mega Man Zero run first. :)

Keep in mind I know jack squat about the practical side of applications programming, but couldn't you just make a device driver that fakes keyboard / joystick input? All the emulators already recognize input from the keyboard, so ... problem solved?
I suppose along similar lines (since I can abstractly see how the above could be tricky) maybe it'd be possible to hook into the emulators' keyboard code? I guess the way to find out would be to see how the movie playback talks to the emulated console's buttons, but I'd guess that you also need to be able to take over the tool controls so I'm not sure if those could be helpful. However, I guess that doesn't really help, does it? You need access to all of the emulator's memory pretty much, right? In other words, you're interested in how Bisqbot was hooked in, right? I guess I don't really have an useful or practical thoughts other than to build it into the emulators themselves. :-\

It is possible he isn't a dishonest scumbag, but even in the case I'm envisioning he'd still be an idiot. (Basically, if the video he posted is one he downloaded from some other site, and that site is the one that did the actual editting, he's not as bad off.)

I suppose I speedrun parts (or sometimes most) of the games I run while TASing (as part of thinking about what I'll be doing in the future.) The only exception that comes to mind was when I worked on the Glitched Zelda 2 run. However, there are some games for "newer" consoles that I would definitely TAS should they become emulated well enough simply because I have attempted to speedrun them in the past.

Actually, I can admit to spending a week or two. Didn't take more than a day or two to get through the whole game the first time using this route, but the testing and optimizing afterwards... brainstorming sessions... desyncs... hexeditting... Ah, feeling nostolgia because I can't work on my MMZ run atm...

I guess I should have mentioned that a couple of weeks ago the primary hard drive on that computer died. It's no biggie... the run is on a drive that is still good so I've just got to replace the bootup disk. Unfortunately, since I have alternative computers, I've been incredibly slow about doing that.

I'd be very careful about increasing the length of the disclaimer. To explain why, imagine a movie which has many of the proposals (serious or not) suggested between these two threads. -The movie has a short "this is how it's made" at the beginning -The movie also has a short disclaimer before the movie starts -The movie has a watermark -Every other frame says "FAKE!" or "CHEATED!" -Half-way through the movie there's a reminder that it is not a regular speedrun You'll see one of the biggest backlashes ever. People will be making and distributing their own versions of the runs without all the stuff and then the videos that people link to and pass around will have nothing indicating they're really a TAS! The current disclaimer, although short, is also very non-invasive, and the more invasive we try to make it the more encouraged other people will be to make versions without our markers. At what point are we no longer spinning our wheels in the mud and are sliding back down the hill? If people are already making versions of our runs with the disclaimer intentionally cut then I'd think *very* carefully about increasing the length since we're already apparently annoying somebody. That's my thought on that, anyways.

Yeah. I think it would be awesomely possibly to TAS it. It handles battle skipping really well. Of course, that Wind Nobody from Organization 13 really kicked my ass.
