Do you need an authentic Emerald or LeafGreen cart to do testing?

I know and understand that this is way old, but from 20:10 to 21:02 in the encode... a flashing/seizure warning should be put in place for how much occurs and for as long as it does.

So, after trying a couple of things... I have a few things to say. So, as I mentioned before... I did use a flash cart to test Sonic Advance (USA) and it desynced in Secret Base Zone Act 2, even with the updated movie and version of GBAHawk. Then I went and tried Pokémon Ruby using my cart that has a dead (dry) battery. This synced up to where the in-game save happens and it desyncs as it does the input too early. It took adding 75 blank frames there to get the rest of it synced up. Most recently, I attempted to get the Knuckles TAS to sync again using a genuine Japanese cart as they do work interchangeably with each other when played back on emulator alongside the save data working with each other. With that being the case, there shouldn't be any issues with playback... or, at least, what I had thought. Link to video As shown in the video, it still desyncs in Secret Base Zone Act 2 like with the flash cart in the same place. I'm perplexed what could be the reason for it failing on both flash and an authentic cart. Here's a video of the same movie being played back on the Japanese ROM using the movie file from GBAHawk v2.0.2 played back on v2.1.2. Link to video --- Also, an aside... something seems amiss when it comes to the way that the RTC seeds are being handled with Pokémon as they don't exactly generate correctly.

Alright, for my small contribution to this... I did a test of Pokémon using my Japanese copy of Ruby version to check the integrity of capability with console. I did intentionally choose to go with bad (dry) battery for this as my cart's battery is dead. From power-on up to saving, everything worked without a hitch. Unfortunately, syncing using the exact inputs from the movie broke and led me to manually check and count the frames that the inputs were off from that point and adjust the movie accordingly... Original movie: GBMV Encode (original): Link to video After having added 75 frames to the movie, the inputs for soft resetting worked, but then that also had to be tweaked in order to get it resynced. Once the Start input was put back in its correct place, everything else worked correctly as intended. Console Fixed movie: GBMV Encode: Link to video

Here is the movie file used for console verification. This used the GBAHawk 2.0.2 release. User movie #638356105422838518

I was wondering something... how do you go about converting the movies from GBAHawk to what's expected by console? Do you utilize the same script that is on the TASbot site or something else?
I use this python script to convert the movie file to GBI inputs,: https://github.com/alyosha-tas/GBA_replay_files/blob/main/gba_script.py It is a small modification from this one by TIKevin83: https://pastebin.com/6jaPXm4H After that the machinery for playback all comes from GBI (just the same as for GBC.)
Thanks so much! So... after floundering about like an idiot, I managed to get my movie to play on console. Unfortunately said movie, Sonic Advance, desynced at the start in Secret Base Zone Act 2 on console. It played back fine on emulator, though, which makes me wonder if there's additional timing differences not being accounted for or cart reading issues. Link to video

Not really... I just haven't posted updates in a while. I had already restarted this with the recent developments in mind. By all means, do it if you want to, though. Link to video

If I may ask, what is the purpose of this particular movie when the other movie that you have also submitted would be more in line as an improvement to the current movie of the branch? "Game End Glitch" already obsoleted the "Save Glitch" category prior to these submissions. If the aim is to make "Save Glitch" for Gold have its own branch, I'd like for you to please explain why it should be the case over what we currently have. Given that it was already obsoleted by Crystal's "Save Glitch" prior to "Game End Glitch".

OMG! I'm glad to see that you finally made the jump to start TASing! Welcome to the community, Nami! This is quite a start, improving the current movie. I found myself entertained throughout watching. Definite yes vote! Good job!

With Social Justice/Progressivism, there is no recognition whatsoever. Every single issue, even economics and tax rates, becomes "human rights, brah!" and if you disagree, that must naturally mean you're an evil bigot, an ignorant moron, or both.
The most depressing thing in the world is the idea that caring about people is "progressive" as opposed to "literally how humanity should have always been from the dawn of humankind". I'm truly sorry your worldview has been so corrupted by your bigotry.
Dude, pointing-and-shrieking "Bigot! Bigot!" at anyone disagreeing with you isn't going to keep working when your wonderful "progressive" (ie communist) policies keep turning California further and further into a miserable hellhole. At present, the state has -Rolling blackouts. -Major water shortages/droughts. -Another small business killing lockdown. -Almost half of America's homeless. -Insane spikes in crime of all kind, including murders. -This past summer, a bunch of runaway wildfires that destroyed dozens of communities and made it unhealthy to even breath the air outside, a combination of environmental policies and Antifa arson. -Crippling debt into the tens of billions. -Mass exodus of businesses and long-time residents to other states. And it's going to get much, much worse. Governor Newsom, fresh off partying with lobbyists (all without a mask) at the French Laundry, has already announced his support for "reparations". I'm sure all the whites, Hispanics, and Asians will be thrilled about paying taxes to blacks or black organizations. Again, shouting "bigot!" at anyone who is tired of this glorious progressive utopia isn't going to work for much longer.
...do you realize the nonsensical things that you're spewing for pseudo-intellectual clout points are the reason why things haven't changed throughout time?

...yeah, no. This is definitely suboptimal in a lot of ways. Using the same route as you, I was able to significantly reduce the time. Input file Encode: Link to video --- (Sorry, sis, for the judgement-esque write up!) As great of a meme this is, this wouldn't be considered a acceptable for the following reasons: *Arbitrary goal choice. This would more interesting for a tech demo, if done without cheats. Speaking of... *Use of cheats & debug mode. These completely violates site rules so even if the goal choice and optimization wouldn't be the issues, this objectively would be. *Suboptimal gameplay. Illustrated above. --- Overall, I wasn't entertained by this at all. As a viewer or as the one making the improvement. Especially considering it hinged off of using debug mode. As Boct pointed out, there's a faster way of triggering this too. I'm voting No for these reasons. As harsh as it may seem, this is not meant to be as such. I do believe that, with time and experience, you can make some amazing content. So keep working towards it and you'll get there! ---

"Glitch Explanation" >doesn't have any actual technical explanation, just a tutorial on how to do it Ok seriously this is pretty much some sub-optimal TAS of S3K and just does some useless glitch with debug mode of all things. The "glitch explanation" video was enough for showing off the glitch. It didn't need some low effort TAS.
...that was completely unnecessary.

I disagree. Yes there are multiple mini-games like Decathlon. But in this movie the mini-games are all on a fixed timer, with 'fixed timer' meaning that the player is forced to play for a predetermined amount of time. If sports games on a fixed timer like football, soccer, and basketball are not individually Vault eligible, I don't see why combining them into a single TAS would change anything. This TAS functions the same as four consecutive fixed-timer sports games.
...I fail to see how this correlates.

This was a surprising thing to me. I haven't played the game at all, but convinced to get it and give it a try after watching this! I loved the neat quirks used in the run and I was thoroughly entertained by this! Voting Yes for entertainment.
