Just in case anybody doesn't know, the Japanese name for Ninja Gaiden II is Ninja Ryukenden II - Ankoku no Jashin Ken. I didn't check if it desynchs with the US rom.

I don't see how that could be a factor since we do not distribute ROM images, so who cares how large they are?
It is not a matter of tasvideos distributing the files, it is a matter of easy accessability. For a huge number of people, a 100 meg file is an overnight affair, at best. People can download the avi if they have the bandwith, but if they don't, with a little ingenuity and computer smarts they can have that same video in 4 megs, at worst (using snes as a standard). And besides, it says it in the faq, it not like I made this stuff up. It's not like the administrator(s) of this site rule the land with an iron fist. If enough people support and fulfill an idea, as long as it's not a total dumb ass idea, Bisqwit would allow it.

I think that the discrimination agains FBA also has to do with the fact that some arcade game images can be over 100 megs.

I think that it would be neat to see a 100% run. I would definitely watch it even if it wasn't published.

It is pretty simple. The ship has a given velocity, which is the number of pixels it is going to advance every frame that a directional button is pressed. With every speed upgrade, the ships velocity increases, and eventually it increases to the point where the ship can completely "jump" over an enemy unit, or some terrain. If you were to try and do this without tool-assistance, you would obviously die almost immediately.

http://www.zophar.net/mac/nes.html There is a set of Nintendo emulators for the Mac, it appears that RockNES, and Nestopia are decent picks, for general NES emulation. Since I am Mac-less, I couldn't tell you if they are decent, or if they offer re-recording support. I've used Nestopia for Win32 and it was a good emulator that I believe had regular recording support, but lacked re-recording, but don't quote me on that. If you are planning on making videos to submit to this site, then you are pretty much out of luck without a x86 PC/PC emulator. The source code to famtasia has been long lost to the sands of time, and FCEU doesn't compile for OS X, due to some bug I believe.

I do have to ask one thing - glancing at the TAS, this doesn't look like the kind of game that would take 18,000+ rerecords to pull off. What part of the game caused that figure to develop? Getting boss fights just right? Getting the chibi-dash to work when you wanted it to? Or just plain constant refinement?
You wouldn't really believe it from the video, but the game itself is really quite hard. I don't know what really caused the high number of re-records, but I'm willing to bet that it's mostly because of the general difficulty, and stiffness of the controls.

You could always alt+print screen the active window, and then crop out the actual gameplay picture. All alt+print screen does is take a picture of the your active window and places it in the clipboard as opposed to the whole desktop.

If you use firefox then you could always use download embedded, its an extension that should do just what you want. https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1993&application=firefox It won't get videos from places such as google video or YouTube, but most places it will. If you are trying to get a video from YouTube or a few other places, there are web sites on the internet that will route the file to your computer such as: http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php I think that covers most of the bases.

This game is a great game, but it's not TAS material. Even if you went with the short path, and got the gold dragon, the game progresses too slowly. I'm pretty sure there was an old topic where people discussed this, and came to the same conclusion.

JXQ is an absolute beast when it comes to speedrunning. We all knew this even before he started this run, and it's just becoming clearer and clearer :)
I'm a bit confused, did I miss something in JXQ's new WIP post?

They don't seem that different to me using my default encoding procedures.
Just as another strike against .mp4, I was unable to play Omega's output.mp4 with my basic setup. I'm using Media Player Classic with the most recent k-lite codec pack. The error I get is... http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/58/error7be.jpg I could try and get it to work with my other stuff, but it's honestly not worth the effort to try and fulfill a standard.

I've used "ideas" for about 30 seconds, and the emulators are on their way to being useable. Out of the two roms I tried, only Castlevania:Dawn of Sorrow worked, and worked is a term to be used loosely here. The game ran at all of 20 FPS, the sprites' mask colors hadn't properly been coded yet, so there were big black boxes around everything, and the 3D textures were washed out. Dualis, as of yet, still isn't able to read .nds files, but it seems like it and ideas are the most promising.

I would -love- to see a run of this game. This was one of my faves from about 20 years ago, even though I never did get past the second stage.

Maybe this, http://www.cvrepertoire.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t1201.html , could answer you. The pictures doesn't seem correct but after reading the entire topic, it looks really the NES version.
Those two pictures at the top of the screen are from Haunted Castle, the arcade version of Castlevania. How it fits into the Castlevania storyline is kind of a mystery to me, but it does involve Simon Belmont. http://www.classicgaming.com/castlevania/games.html It even shares the same name as the original Castlevania in Japanese. How it applies to Castlevania 2 is a mystery to me.
