It would be useful in a *glitched* 100% run, killing a bunch of enemies on foot wouldn't be a problem. For a non-save glitch run the problem is that this is usually the final mission then you got to find 2 Guardian Lion statues to fill in 100% (Xin's bonus missions does not count towards the %). That's a cool find though, it was really suprisenly obvious to do :o.

But wasn't your speedrun only 2:26 or something, or is that due SDA's timing differences?
Yeah it's SDA's timing, I guess they didn't count the intro cutscene (40 seconds long) and the ending (over 5 minutes long). The extra 4 minutes was the file select sereens from all 45 segments and the 'proof' section on segment 45. It would be great that the next run should use 9.4 or 9.5 to avoid the emu lag issues on the world map sections.

This is an entertaining run, never thought of the Koopa shell trick on 8-7 you've used to delay Luigi's cliff hanging and 8-6 seems fresh to me. 8-T2 was pretty suprising to watch as well on how limited you can do and yet still make it entertaining. Yes vote from me. *To viewers: Luigi getting damaged at 8-4 is not a mistake because losing the Shell is the only way to become a Fire plumber otherwise, collecting it (as Shell plumber) would have taken it into the Reserve item slot. Also Luigi cannot wall jump off spikes so taking damage on 8-T2 is a bad idea. If anyone wants to know, the 100% run will be at least over 2 hours and 30 minutes of input. I would have made a TAS route by now but I need to find out if 7-2 All star coins run can be done without both the lift and avoiding to use a Mini mushroom.

In 8-2, at 22 seconds, can you take damage and wall jump on those spikes to get to the door faster?
You can't wall jump on spikes, and you'll be facing a longer battle with Junior that would last for 10 seconds if optimised conpared to 3 seconds with 6 Fireballs and a stomp.

Those cheat codes by pressing certain buttons in a order? None of the GTA runs do that so I'm guessing it isn't allowed. The main advantage of getting a machine gun is that your selected weapon inside Hsin's house will already be a machine gun. 20 bullets will be enough to kill Kenny. The car spawned by the safehouse will always be a Dukes. All of theses factors are a good cause of a complex frame war (loads of submission updates with a few or so frames saved).

Well done jlun2. There were some cool ideas I never thought of like getting in the police near by the mission marker for a free shotgun. But I'm not sure if it would save time overall. Huang's Roundhouse kick combo is very deadly and at the most you should only need to do the combo 2-3 times, the time it took to get the police car to get a free shotgun is a bit too long (even though it was optimised) as it took 3 extra seconds before triggering the mission. In the Dukes/Hellenbach hold B+Y for at least 1 (or 2) frames in the car and on the next frame release the Y button to get a burnout. You'll see it on my Dailymotion video. 1 more question, the Comet is notably faster after seeing your video but can you enter Hsin's building when the yellow marker is displayed on the road or not (this is when you chase Kenny)?

Are you refering to the bit where you get out of the car by smashing the window (Touch screen). I'm not sure if it is luck based or not, I haven't done much research on that part other than the minigame accepts a new smash every 6 frames after the previous smash.

I can't upload it onto Youtube because of Copyright issues (they will take it down). I'll post a .nds movie file onto Filefront if I can and possibly Dailymotion too. If anyone does get to submit this run, make sure you mention me for the discovery of this save bug please. Without it I doubt a 'first ever' GTA CW TAS would be made until 2011. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xb8c04_gee-tee-ayy-chineenaa-toowwn-warrss_videogames Here is the video. Inaccurate spelling on the title is to prevent Take Two from finding it when searching "GTA Chinatown wars"

Greenalink and LightBlueYoshi deserve mention for other TASes, respectively.
:D Nice to have a polished 50/50 Tetrises run. An yes vote from me.

I really like this WIP video, those vertical wall jumps seen in 8-2 and 8-Tower 1 were unexpected and awesome at the same time. 8-3 is the last level that requires major luck manipulation now, good luck getting a Blue Shell.

8-4 (Scuttle Bugs) and 8-7 ("Koopa" Bros) seems to involve more jumping so you wouldn't be able to take advantage of the higher dash speed on most of the places. For the shell it's basically invinciblity but with a faster speed from the jump spamming method. 8-8 (the volcano stage) has loads of ground so getting star there would be decent. If possible manipulate a debris so by the time you hit the hidden star block, the rock destroys the hidden block and you can get the star without slowing down too much... you'll understand what I mean when trying it out.

You could manipulate a Hammer Bro to be on 8-3. By the time you clear 8-2, make sure that the Hammer Bro is on 8-4, by the time you clear 8-Tower1 there is an 100% chance that the Hammer Bro will move to 8-3. Then you can get a Blue Shell that way. The only place where I got myself a Fire Flower was on 8-Castle. 8-4 is a bit risky without a shell til the end because the whole level is filled with Scuttle Bugs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o2bXXsMyUg Not my video but it shows how to get a Megashroom in reserve from a basic Yellow ? Block but using breakable blocks to keep it. You can do this easily without TAS when you go underneath indestructable blocks like 2-4 and 7-5. It's useful on a 100% run as it has no use on an Warps run.

But the master sword isn't needed anymore after the RBA sequence anyways, or is it?
All of the important enemies in Ganondorf's castle that leads to his room. The sword is also needed for ISG to hover by using Bombchus (if that one is faster than the old Armos block method). to skip the Trials.

The problem is that the voids require the Explorer's kit and the emulator doesn't support local Wifi too well. The glitch is like A Link to the Past but much longer and more boring. Ultimate Darius's In-game trade Abra tactic clears the game in 6:05. A run with the void could aim for sub 3:30 but I (or even anyone) wouldn't watch a run that has a player running in a void for over 70 minutes :(.

I noticed that if you were getting a Mini Mushroom from the Red ? Block on 5-Ghost it's best to get the Fire Flower from the very first block in that level. You would need to ground pound the left half of the block to let the Fire Flower pop out to the right. Then with good precision you would need to hit the Red block but make sure that the block isn't too high otherwise you would have a hard time getting a good jump off from the block after getting the Mini Mushroom.

We already know that it was possible to triple jump as Shell Mario/Luigi and yes it is 48. This is the only way to get max speed since spinning in the shell is notably slower :).
I got stuck trying to manipulate the movements in world 5, that is a terrible pain there. Then I got busy and haven't had a chance.
At least it's not the 100% run, manipulation on that will be an absolute nightmare.

After picking up a Blue shell on 1-2, get a Fire Flower right afterwards, that should store it in reserve then play the rest as usual in a Warp run. Until you manipulate either a Red ? Block or Hammer Bro on 5-Ghost to get a Mini Mushroom, be Mini until 8-Tower1. You still be mini until you clear pass the 1 block tunnels. This is when you should use your Fireflower at reserve. This should only require 1 powerup pause instead of 2 and you can clear pass the 1 block tunnels quickly on 8-Tower 1 (not to forget that Mini can perform decent wall jumps to save a few seconds). Location reference example from video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mcO2IyvpFQ At 2:11 to 2:41. You should use the Fire Flower from reserve on the lift like in on 2:41 from the Youtube link.

Stealing a police car gave me a shotgun with 5 shells allowing me to kill Kenny quickly. He usually takes 2 shots from the shotty but because you cannot change weapons straight away in the different place (Hsin's penthouse) I did a roundhouse kick combo and I have to make sure that Huang has enough idle frames so that he fires the shotgun straight away after selecting it. You can't fire a shotgun during the recovery frames of a roundhouse kick. The NRG900 is the fastest vehicle in the game but they do not spawn around East Island City (near by 1st safehouse). Hellenbach is probably the only car in the area that could out run the Police Patrol but you don't get a Shotgun for free from those cars.

Basically when selecting New game there is still gameplay before the Autosave message arrives. But this kind of gameplay is pretty glitchy so you save it and load it up to start the glitchy file. I call it the Time Paradox glitch mainly because the missions are out of order. Some of the mission marks takes you to a different location. The final mission itself starts partway through the mission itself with the glitch.

If you want to see the movie, there's an AVI download from this topic. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=215520#215520 It makes 'Metroidvania' (minus Maxim from HoD) and Ocarina of Time look like nothing in terms of major skipping. * I want to show the actual video first, since it's a DS run and not my TASers can playback on the emulator at 100% speed.

I discovered something huge last week that I made a full TAS run of it. The reason it's not on the workbench is because I'm having problems with the internet browsers as it fails to login to the site (not the forums) even when I type it up correctly. Part of my submission text.
Some goals and notes * Aims for the fastest time * Contains speed/entertainment tradeoffs (in some parts) * Manipulates luck (Police car’s position, traffic) * Uses a glitch that lets me go to the final mission of the main game very quickly. * Tales no damage (only Huang’s health meter) ‘Dirty AVI’ Download link (for people who have problems with the DS emulator) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=05QHAXO8 (193 MB) The input movie ends during the Shotgun blast but an extra Start button is pressed after the movie during an AVI recording just to show that the game is cleared. The ending cut scene doesn’t require input but it is pretty long. Possible Improvements: * The Police Patrol could be a bit closer but I couldn’t work out the full math if a small delay like 10 frames before triggering the cars would make a good difference. * The Comet could be better for going to Hsin’s Penthouse but with poor grip it could be difficult for optimisation. * Having the car camera set to default would make optimisation a bit easier but I chose dramatic to make the car driving sections a bit more interesting. This is the first ever GTA Chinatown Wars TAS to be submitted and I hope there will be some good competition with the future improvements of the run. Frame wars would be more challenging with the luck factor in play and optimising simple turns too. Hope you enjoy this surprisingly short movie and happy TASing.
Any questions, feel free to reply on this post and I'll respond.

After testing out different internet browers. I can see that Internet Explorer fails to do that. Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari, were a bit better (the top login options did not referesh after typing up my username and pressing Enter). but they still did not log me into the site.

Tried it but the page loads up as if it was refreshed. I tried clicking on the grey login box and pressing enter after typing the password. No succes like: "You're logged in. Good thing. Now you can log out if you wish :)" Even though when I type a word wrong it says my input wasn't correct. So after typing everything in correctly I go to the Submit Movies page but nothing has changed, no form to fill in.
