Because I wasn't sure where else to post it and a search on the forums and on the main site didn't yeild any results for me, perhaps I overlooked something. It was rather annoying because that particular command isn't in the Snes9x readme. Regardless, my question got answered quite fast, so I really have no complaints.

I know Gens can be set to show what buttons are being pressed at any time while a movie is being played back. Is there an option in Snes9x to turn this on? I can't seem to find it if there is.

As I recall, when you spy you actually are just grabbing what you'd get at the end of the battle anyway. I think that's what I've read about using SPY.

How exactaly do you test these things? I'd like to help out if I knew what to do.

It's been a little while since an update, so I thought I'd ask. How's this run going? Have you come to any conclusions on the RNG yet?

This is true, Jeff can't get critical hits, and as I recall, slingshots can't either.

I think this is a very impressive run you have up so far, I wondered why you hit that spike ball midway through the run. I'd vote Yes for it if it was submitted, it might have a small chance of getting published if it is extremely polished. but I wonder that since the site tends to be very picky regarding hacks, if you should instead try a Knuckles in Sonic 2 run, since that game is more likely to be accepted by virtue of being an offical Sega game. Just a thought.

Why not just use Gens to play the game then? Heck, gens can do Sega CD too.

If it was possible it'd make a good screensaver or something.

Usually it shows up in the taskbar when I open movie files. Did it show up down there?

True, but a good hack doesn't have to have some really fancy coding to make it good. You can have truly innovative programming in a game and it could ultimately not be very fun to play. I've always liked Outlands because it was very creative when it came to how you had to tackle the dungeons and overworld. You can't do everything very much out of order and you might have to even go through a level twice to finish up what you need to do. Plus, it's hard.

Is anyone attempting a TAS on this Zelda hack? Hands down it has to be the most elaborate and best redo of Zelda 1 there is. Challenge games is long gone, but the guy who made the hack has new webhosting: http://rha.cymoro.com/zelda3c/ZeldaC/index.shtml

Well, just going from what I remember, at a decient level I could pull off a fully charged Mana Sword attack and do 999 damage. This was charging it up all the way, which takes quite a bit of time (I'm not sure if a lower level charged attack would have done the same damage, I never tried). Using Moon Energy, I could prolly get at least ten regular hits in that same amount of time, for around 300-400 damage each. Considering the damage cap of 999, I would guess that more hits at less damage is the better way to go. I'm not even sure if you can score a critical hit with a charged attack. Also, I don't remember if you even need to let the sword work its way back up to 100% to score a critical with moon energy. I bet you have to, but it's been so long since I've played. Someone should test this. I'm almost certain abusing critical hits is faster than charging your weapons in most instances where you have a choice. I didn't realize what Moon Energy did until I had beaten the game a few times, and I'm almost certain that after I started using that spell, on the later bosses they were dying a lot quicker than my other playthroughs. Remember, this is all years ago from when the game was pretty much new. I've played it a bit off and on since then, but the majority of the time I logged in SoM was a long time ago.

Either manipulate critical hits or cast Moon Energy. You do less damage per hit but you get in a lot more all at once. I've killed the mana beast in a very short amount of time abusing that spell.

Yeah, this game is called Violinist of Hameln, there's no I in it. It's based on the Violinist of Hameln manga, there's a partial translation of it here, but it hasn't been updated in quite a long time, which is disappointing. There's an anime series too, but it was cut short and ended on the 24th episoide after skipping like 70% of the manga due to bad ratings. Was a shame, I enjoyed it. Notable is the fact that Flute (the girl) is a much more effective weapon when thrown than Hamel's musical notes are. Not only does she do more damage, but enemies drop gold when they are killed with her (I believe it is 5 coins when she is at full health, 2 when she's at half, and none when she's got no health, but I haven't played this in forever). If buying items was part of the run, it'd be useful, but I think just using her as a weapon is enough to merit it. Furthermore, I reckon that some of her costumes may aid in mobility. I am almost certain that you can ride on the shufflepuck thing, and that thing flies when you throw it. The game does seem to end abrubtly after the fight with Sizer (the winged angel looking boss with the scythe), for some reason the game designers decided to stop the game there instead of moving on to a fight with Chestra (the villian in the manga) which is odd because the game offers no closure. It's a good looking game, and the concept is so absurd, I'm sure there's some room for antics throwing Flute all over the place.

Oh man, after watching that impressive movie, I saw the still scene at the end where the werewolf is magestically brandishing the American flag and I almost fell out of my chair laughing. It was wonderful.
