4-4 is due to your better luck with the boss than mine (he was jumping to the worse direction for me), which is likely to depend on an in-game timer. So it was actually your 4-1 improvement that saved time here.
Looking over the run one more time, I wonder if you could use the shell for a flagpole glitch at the end of level 8-3. The shells bounce Mario differently, so I kinda doubt it'd work.

Would you be able to scroll the screen to catch up to the koopa paratroopa in 5-1 to kick the shell under the block formation and use it on the flagpole, or is that too time-consuming or impossible?
I don't understand the deal with _slowing down_ by entering the top of a pipe for a moment (2-1, 3-1). What's going on?
I'll try to answer the questions people have: The screen scrolling in 2-1 and 3-1 is done so that he can hit the turtles earlier as he is farther right on the screen, sets things up that would normally be impossible.
WOWWWWWW.... Happylee, you are one creative guy (to say the least)... I thought of some of the options you did, but I couldn't make ANY of them work. You even managed to use a shell to do the bullet bill glitch (in 3-1) which me and klmz had determined to be impossible! So I'm very happy you were able to do the shell-flagpole glitch when we couldn't. I'm glad it's possible. Happylee, congrats! I'm going to see if I can find any other improvements. This run should get a star ;)

HappyLee, it is sort of upsetting that you are more concerned with the record than the fact that you discovered a brand new trick in a 20+ year old game, that has been played to death. Seriously, while the records may come and go, you are known as the originator of this trick. You should be really happy with that. Also, this trick would have never been discovered had it not been for this cool frame war.
