I think VP9 and HEVC both have the potential to replace the 10bit encode, but they are both overrated to me. Lots of times you see "saving about 20–50% bitrate compared to H.264", but most of the time it's done by killing details along with noise and making the video smoother. I find their largest advantage compared to AVC is that it's much harder to find blocks, and edges are usually smoother, making it more suitable for anime encoding, but in terms of TAS encoding, which we don't use deblock and smoothing, I'm not sure if they have real advantage at all. YouTube now uses VP9 (and probably the only one using VP9) for many of their videos. The VP9 encode is about 25% smaller than AVC encode, but the quality is slightly worse as many details are smoothed. I'll run some small scale tests of x265 tomorrow. I'd like to see some larger scale tests of both x265 and VP9 vs. x264 by encoders.

Nobody seems to have tested x265 either, after I brought that up 3 years ago. HEVC is way popular now than VP9, and I've been using x265 for my The Simpsons encodes, and the result is much better than x264.

I tried to stay away, but still might need to say something.

Nach, I respect your effort in it, but to me this wasn't dealt with months ago, since me and Mars608 (and EZGames69) never got an apology, whether in public or in private, before BrunoVisnadi decided to bring this issue public. Neither did the YouTube encode fixed or many of those malicious ratings towards our movie fixed if it weren't for feos' efforts after I brought something up in NES TAS of 2018 thread. I don't know why we have to split that topic, as if they weren't connected. But here's what Spikestuff did to sabotage our movie (that I know of): 1. Uploading at least 54 old (mostly obsoleted TASes) videos right after publishing our TAS on YouTube. All of them encoded by Spikestuff (and some later videos encoded by fsvgm777). 2. Using a unusual logo with a scary sound, probably to scare people away from watching our TAS. 3. Malicious comments by multiple fake YouTube accounts. 4. Messing up with the cover, introduction text, both encodes. This was quickly fixed by another publisher and Spikestuff himself after I pointed it out in our movie thread, but me blaming Spikestuff about his bad publication work caused our movie thread being locked by a moderator and still not unlocked. 5. A malicious rating (along with other users). I remember the entertainment rating was a "2". BrunoVisnadi found out about those YouTube stuff before me, as I wasn't familiar with TVC on YouTube. By the time he told me, our thread was already locked. He also told me that he was talking with staff privately about how to deal with it, but I didn't see any progress being made in half a year. I don't think it takes a genius or a mind reader to tell that those things are connected. I don't know why Spikestuff had to be so persistent in doing everything in his power to make our TAS look as bad as possible, as I had nothing against Spikestuff before it happened.

If it were "publishers" instead of "a publisher", doesn't that make it worse? And I don't know why it has to be called "attempting to sabotage", because they succeeded doing it until being exposed half a year later. Did the publishers know that it's wrong to abuse their power to sabotage a publication? Of course they knew. But why they did it anyway? Because they thought they could get away with it, and they almost did. Right now, many of what can be fixed have been fixed, thanks to the efforts of feos and BrunoVisnadi, except our movie thread still being locked. I don't think the problem is that we allowed publishers to upload so many YouTube videos in a short time. There are many things we technically can do, like using fake accounts to attack people or things we hate, but that doesn't mean that we should do. I think the key issue and what people concern the most is: What do we learn from all this? How do we prevent similar things from happening again?

I think whoever's behind this has either Split Personality or tremendous hate in his heart. It's hard to imagine that someone from our community would do such a thing. Although I have more to say, but I should probably stay away from this matter due to some reasons. It takes courage to uncover the facts and proof, and it takes wisdom for the whole community to handle it the right way so that such terrible thing won't happen again.

If you haven't started hateful comments in our movie thread and hasn't give bad ratings, I wouldn't call you a hater in the first place. When a hater handled the publication work, and happened to mess up with the cover, introduction text, and both two encodes, it could be a coincidence, but it's so easy to think otherwise. I thank klmz for fixing the cover and introduction text, and thank you for fixing the encodes quickly enough, and I never brought up the encoding problem since you fixed it. About that signature, I was going to bring it down when we win NES TAS of 2018, but things went the other way. At least I'll promise to bring it down when the problem is settled.

Thank you for your fair conclusion and suggestions, feos. I never said that I didn't do anything wrong, and I was probably the only one who apologized in that locked thread. I guess I'm not good at coming up with perfect solutions, and I apologized again for ever made things worse. But the problem remains for over half a year. In the meanwhile, the rating of our run is still ruined, thread still being locked, and haters still try to make our run look bad even during the award nomination period (don't know how it affects the votes, but I'll drop it). I'm willing to compromise if it helps, since I consider myself a reasonable person. I'd really like to hear from advice on what I can do to actually improve the situation (except for me shutting up which doesn't solve any problem).

Maybe I was just being sentimental rather than achieving anything. Since the voting is over, and nobody's allowed to talk about our run anymore (due to the fact that our movie thread's still being locked, which everyone seems to be OK with except me), it's heartbreaking to see the best SMB TAS ever made (in my opinion) go down as the lowest-rating SMB TAS in many years, and Controversial TAS of 2018. I don't know if anyone but me thinks it's unfair, because our work hasn't earned any of this. Furthermore, the first step of fixing a problem is to admit that there is one. Over the year, our work has been under lots of siege (as we all see), with several haters deliberately making our run look bad (even till the award season). The community just let it happen, and I had to struggle to defend our work. This is not normal, and totally could have been handled better. I hate to be the only one who had to ask people to "vote rationally" and "nominate rationally", to argue about what makes an entertaining movie, to put facts over feelings and "personal taste", to have respect over one's work. I wish the community could come up with a better solution rather than shutting me up, because me shutting up doesn't solve the actual problem. This time it's me and our work under siege, the next time it could be others, and I don't want similar things ever happen again in this community.

Happylee, your run was absolutely deserving of this award and I personally voted for it, but SMB3 was really good too so I don't see at all an unfair result here. In my opinion, it would have been ridiculous if the obsolete SMB1 TAS ended up winning (or with more votes than the current one), but thankfully this didn't get even close to happen. Thus, I see with positivity the results of this poll - the majority of the site agreed with you and voted for your run instead of for the obsolete TAS, but SMB3 ended up being slightly more popular.
You're right, but that's not my point. I'm OK with SMB3 winning the award, and fortunately it doesn't have haters or has been under siege as we have, and that's perhaps the biggest difference.

Our work has suffered from negative comments, votes and ratings it doesn't deserve, and disrespect over the nomination period. It's the lowest-rating SMB TAS on TASVideos for many years. Our movie thread is still being locked (you can check how many Published movies threads are being locked) despite no violation of forum rules. Not to mention that I've been personally attacked many times, which I care the least, unlike "my ego" that you can't stop talking about.

Probably you've missed some (the thread is pretty messed up). At that time the thread's full of negative comments are arguements over arguements (mostly towards me and my work) so the admin had to clear the thread.

8 is probably way too many for a category like this. Usually I get zero. But this doesn't matter, at least it proves my point. Also thanks for your suggestions, but I've never asked everyone to like this run or anything. All I ask is less hate or whatever this run doesn't deserve. In one word, fairness.

If you care so much about hate and disrespect towards TASes, why did you complain for days on end about MrWint's TAS when he submitted it for not being made "the right way"?
I never said MrWint's TAS is not made "the right way", nor that I ever hate or disrespect MrWint's TAS. I was only offering arguments from a long-time SMB TASer's point of view, and it's a fact that the improvements of MrWint's TAS are both found with an irregular approach, which has rarely being used in other projects, so it's normal to have some controversy and arguments.
TheProJamer wrote:
So you say your TAS is objectively better for entertainment, yet liking MrWint's TAS for the same reason is a subjective opinion. If saying preferring your TAS is objectively a correct opinion isn't narcissism, I don't know what is.
It's not narcissism, and it's not modesty either, but I have to point out that our TASes should fit better with the guidelines on how to be entertaining (if that can be regard as an objective standard for entertainment). I have lots to say on this, but to keep it simple, in a TAS, what matters is what you do, and what we did in our warpless TAS is bringing more actions, showing off more glitches and tricks, and to make the TAS more like a Superplay rather than an real-time speedrun.
TheProJamer wrote:

If people have to be hateful and prejudiced towards me, then speak directly to me, or point out what I did wrong, publicly or through messages, that's OK. But it's not fair or nice to ruin our work which shouldn't be controversy at all.

The vote is over. Why do you still bring this up?
I think I've already answered it. To add something from my personal point of view, even though SMB3 TAS is great and a fair winner of NES TAS of 2018, but the whole process hasn't been fair to our run right from the nomination phase (since my post of questioning of a nomination was immediately removed by an admin), and the biggest difference between SMB3 TAS and our run is that their run doesn't have haters, and clearly someone wouldn't want our TAS win due to the remaining hate and prejudice left half a year ago.

Yes, it is legitimate, but in this case, "you could" doesn't mean "you should". It's OK to like a movie more than another, but some people should take award nomination seriously. Nominating an obsoleted TAS without actual reason other than personal taste, is not only unusual and controversial, but also shows disrespect towards the current run. This shouldn't be encouraged, if ever allowed. As an admin, you should see, that there are already lots of hate, prejudice, and disrespect towards our work (from rating, voting, comments, etc.), and you should know when it's actual personal taste and when it's just an excuse. I wouldn't need to bring this up if people recognize that there is a problem instead of ignoring it and demanding me to shut up. But the problem is real and still unsolved, that our run is the lowest-rating SMB TAS in many years (despite from being a Star), and our thread is still being locked. I'm just here (since there's nowhere else) to ask, that people should treat our work fairly.

With all due respect, do you really think you can settle it by locking our thread? The fact is, the best SMB TAS ever made (IMO), or at least a TAS in the highest standard possible, has become the lowest-rating SMB TAS in many years on TASVideos. Is there something wrong here or it's just me?

Yes. It's a very cool script, and pretty intuitive effects. But I'm kind of old-school on comparison videos, so I may want to stick to my usual approach. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

There's no doubt that both the SMB3 TAS and our warpless TAS could deserve this award. I don't know about SMB3, but as I said, the current SMB warpless TAS is likely to be a perfect run, and the peak of SMB TASing. I don't think I'll ever make a better TAS than that. If there were an award for "Controversial TAS of 2018", our run would probably win, even though it shouldn't have controversy at all. The real controversy is nominating and voting for an obsoleted TAS, which you guys seem to be OK with it. I wonder if this happened before.

By the way, purely saying that "MrWint's movie is more entertaining" is also a matter of opinion. I'd like to hear those people saying exactly where and what MrWint did that makes his movie more entertaining, so there can be a proper discussion as the rule says.

Sorry about the tone. I guess I'm just bad at English expression. I'm not saying MrWint's run is bad, but my point is that I certainly don't feel that our hard work has been appreciated. It's so not appreciated that more people actually nominated an obsoleted TAS than the current TAS (I wonder if that's new).

I know entertainment can be subjective, but guys, seriously? Objectively speaking, our TAS follows every guidelines on how to be entertaining. Me and Mars608 have worked for months just to make sure that every detail is perfect. Those who say that MrWint's run is somehow more entertaining, can you point one stage or one detail where MrWint's movie more entertaining than ours? It's truly disappointing to me that our hard work doesn't get the credit it deserves even to this day. From a long-time SMB TASer's point of view, this is SMB TAS at its highest standard, and likely to be the peak and the theoretical fastest time for warpless TAS.
