I decided to take a quick stab at this game and there's quite a bit of potential here. I may end up taking on this game, despite the fact that I'd never played it before. I'd play as the British pilot, for a few reasons. First, he's the slowest. He's harder to maneouver, which also hopefully means more entertaining when you pull crazy stunts. Second, his secondary weapon is clearly the most powerful, meaning boss battles will go much faster with him. I don't know enough about the game to give these as definite goal, but so far I'd say my goals are the following: - 100% kills - Fastest time (at least for bosses and minibosses. The rest is scrolling by the looks) - Use death as a shortcut The reason for the last one: When you die, your bombs replenish. So if I run out of bombs on a boss, I'll die to spawn more, if it's reasonable to do so.

I think the first SMB is the only one of the series that this sort of score-attack can really work on. SMB3 has a number of problems, for instance. 1. You can scroll back and forth, so you'd try to enter every pipe and get every treasure, which would get boring fast. 2. Every time you exit a pipe, the enemies would respawn so you'd just end up killing them over and over again. 3. Some levels have spawners, like the pipe at 1-2 that continually creates goombas and you'd just end up abusing that.

No, I understood perfectly. That extra goomba (right at the beginning between the pipes) takes about two seconds to squash, meaning that if you had extra time, it would be worth it. Otherwise, not. Hmm. I'm wondering if it's possible to get more points if you do follow the koopa shell. You'd have to miss both the fire flower and the star and that's 2000 points right there. It's possible you can get the three coins without slowing down, so if you get more than 2000 points from the goombas, it would be worthwhile. And, no, I think you should always end the timer on a 6. Each firework is worth 500 points, so six fireworks is 3000 points. Even if you have to wait 9 seconds to get to the next six, you only miss out on 450 timer points.

I was thinking about this, actually. After you start getting 1ups, you stop getting points, right? So you'd have to stop after the eighth bounce. Is it possible to touch the ground and then jump and land on the koopa again before it's too far away to still get the bonus? I guess you can if it's inside a small enclosure, but I mean, like at the staircase at the end of certain levels.

Wow, this is harder than I thought. I worked on World 1-1 for quite a long time and managed to beat your score by 300 points, but ran a few seconds late. A few seconds late means the timer doesn't end in 6, so I'd have to wait until the next 6 to get the fireworks bonus, meaning 10 seconds slower than you, which is 500 timer points, so you beat me by 200 :/. As a point of interest: I have no idea how I got that 300 extra points. I squashed one goomba that you avoided, meaning 100 points. I don't know where the other 200 came from. Edit: Okay, apparently I got one coin that you didn't. Maybe you didn't get every single possible coin out of the multi-coin block.

I just thought of something. Is it possible to luck manipulate the commentator in NBA Jam this way?

I was thinking about doing MMX 100% if anyone else isn't going to. Mainly for more practice in boss manipulation. My question is should I use the SDA 100% route? That is.. Chill Penguin - > Storm Eagle - > Flame Mammoth - > Spark Mandrill - > Armored Armadillo - > Launch Octopus - > Chill Penguin again - > Boomer Kuwanger - > Sting Cameleon - > Spark Mandrill again - > Armored Armadillo again. I can't see any other route working. Feel free to point out of I'm wrong though, or any other helpful info.
I've actually tried to do a 100% run before but never finished. Here's the route I picked Chill Penguin -> Storm Eagle -> Flame Mammoth -> Boomer Kuwanger -> Spark Mandrill -> Armored Armadillo -> Launch Octopus -> Sting Chameleon -> Chill Penguin again -> Armored Armadillo again. One comment on your video so far: I noticed you fire a missed shot in order to charge the X-buster. You can just charge from the last killing shot from the previous enemy. I should say that I've seen a few TAS attempts (and published runs) of Megaman X that, while fast, are somewhat lacking in entertainment. Yours seems to have more potential in the latter department so I hope you continue to do so. Megaman X has huge potential for entertainment value. For one thing, I personally would have found it more entertaining if you fire the small charged shot high at the first enemy to cause it to skid to explosion and jump over it. You can do so without losing time, I believe. Edit: Oh. It looks like in my previous attempt, I jumped over the first enemy rather than destroyed him. Partially so I could hit the second with a charged blast, but also because it's harder to avoid the first enemy than to destroy him and thus, I think more entertaining. I think I'll redo my test run and see what you think. Probably won't be as fast as yours, but may be just as, if not more fun, I hope.

This actually sounds like it might be fun to make. I might experiment with it a bit. If I get bored/frustrated, I'll post the FCM and someone can improve or continue. A few initial thoughts: Each second left on the timer gives you 50 points, therefore: Smashing bricks - 50 points - worth it if you take less than a second to do it. Squashing a goomba - 100 - worth it if you take less than two seconds. Collecting a coin - 200 - worth it if you take less than four seconds. Anything more than that will almost always be worth going after. 1up mushrooms give you no points, therefore they should usually be avoided.

Actually, maybe I'll give Cheetahmen a try. Bokosuka Wars I think would be a pain and probably pretty pointless for a TAS but there *might* be a way to make Cheetahmen interesting.

I might be willing to give this a try if I can find one of the more classic simple games that I think could be exploitable. Maybe Heroes of the Lance or something dumb like that. Wall Street Kid? :p I notice Platoon isn't on that list, but it seems to be incredibly bad ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuBgGoV_eF0 ) but also might be doable for a TAS.

Wait, what? So the computer at your library has the latest version of FCEU for you to watch the FCM movie, but not 7-zip?

This game is written by horrible people! We all know the crap about the media, how the games are causing kids to do things because they could in the games. Let's think for a moment if they were doing the things that this game here told them to do. "My older brother was mean to me, I'm gonna throw fruit at him." "Let's visit the prison yard and throw fruit at them. Oh no, here come some guards, I'll throw fruit at them too."
I hope you're joking. :p You remind me of this Mega64 sketch where a concerned parent says that his kids were encouraged to beat up a car and destroy expensive wine barrels by playing the bonus rounds in Street Fighter II. Also, inspired by Donkey Kong Country, they stole a rhino from the zoo and tried to ride it though water, but it drowned. Then they picked up a garbage can and threw it at other zoo animals, killing them.

I have no idea what's going on in this movie. I only watched the first three levels. I'm not voting. Fourth sentence.
The game's actually really simple. You need to collect four items and escape through the airport door. You need the bag to be able to carry more than one item at a time, so you need all five of those. The idea is to outsmart or outgun the other player to ensure that you get all items and escape. Normally this is done by brawling with them, or setting traps for them. In this run, the player almost completely avoids contact. He avoids the black spy or manipulates him into setting off his own traps. For those who didn't watch past the first three or four levels, that's because those parts aren't as entertaining. (Maybe they can be improved?) The last couple of levels are the best.

No. 1: FCEU doesn't record zapper input in movies. Only gamepads. 2: It would be pointless since you can easily blast any duck that appears onscreen at the exact first frame they appear. It would be like watching 30 minutes of ducks suddenly appearing and then dropping.

So, all the levels that would have been cool to master have been skipped, leaving only the autoscrollers. And in the autoscroller levels there's not really anything interesting. You spend most of the levels all the way at the right side of the screen. Sorry. No.

Nicely done. I hope eventually you can figure out a way to eliminate the time-wasters altogether (dying from the time bomb, laughing at black spy) but the last few levels are really well done. I love how you manipulate the black spy into falling for his own traps a lot. I particularly liked how he put a bucket of acid over the door then opened it moments later, frying himself, so you could run right through his room to the exit. Now, you'd mentioned that while you're climbing a ladder, the laughing animation doesn't play. I wonder if this also happens if you're going through the door at the exact "laugh" moment. Have you experimented with this?

Hmm. It occurs to me that since the run that bankrupts four players uses the same tactics as the :30 run, it's not so big of a deal if this obsoletes the original run. Then we'll still have two Monopoly runs using the two different tactics. I still am not convinced this should obsolete the :30 run, but I won't lose any sleep over it if it does.

I get what you did with the balloon game, but when you use your last coin, since you have to stop anyway, why not get all blue balloons? (Globes as you call them.) I'm sorry but I have to give this a meh vote. It's not necessarily your fault. Some stuff is cool, like how you narrowly avoid all those shoes, but there are a lot of really boring parts, particularly the last level where you have to go back and forth so many times. It just gets old. :/

I suppose you could TAS Wheel of Fortune to win as much money as inhumanly possible... "Oh, man.... It landed on $10,000 again..."
This actually got me thinking so I did a bit of research. According to a FAQ on gameFAQs the three longest titles are all under the PHRASE category and are: It's The Next Best Thing To Being There Don't Start Something You Can't Finish There's no such thing as a free lunch Although I didn't account for such things as having the most consonants, which would be the ones that actually get you money. So what you'd have to do is luck manipulate to get the longest answers possible. I have no idea whether you can manipulate it to get the same answer three times, or if you can manipulate to get all three of the above, or if you can only manipulate it to use a group of three, which means you have to figure out which group has the most consonants between the three answers. You'd also have to manipulate so that every round they use the $10000 square as the bonus square. This should all be possible but unless someone manages to hack the code like with Monopoly it would be very difficult. There are over a hundred possible answers so luck manipulation would be a pain.
