Voted yes. Very entertaining and fast paced.
One question about the encode though: why is it that I always see Japanese speedruns on nicovideo with these snazzy stat overlays and never an equivalent on any runs on TASVideos? While this run was so fast-paced I couldn't even spare it a glance, I do think it really improves the entertainment of a run to be able to see all that information at a glance. Especially on runs like this where you really don't need 1080p+ to appreciate the gameboy graphics.
I found this pretty entertaining, but I'm not sure what to vote if there are large optimizations the author missed.
You have a yes vote from me, but I'll wait until this gets sorted out.
Awesome run! I love the chapter notes, they make an otherwise impenetrable TAS extremely interesting. I've only watched up to the beginning of chapter 4 though, I'm waiting for more notes!
This run is really incredible - not using warp whistles gives the ability to demonstrate some more interesting glitches, strategies, and visually interesting play. In my opinion this run, or an improvement of this run deserves a star. Great job guys
after about halfway through the game you'd get access to your old characters, which with a tas could be perfect. The game would pretty much be over by then.
The game that the majority of players are accustomed to is The 'original' Ocarina of Time. Making a run using Master Quest and passing it off as the Ocarina of Time run would disgruntle a lot of people, I think.
I checked out most of the starred runs when I first came here because I assumed that those were the most inherently entertaining. By inherently entertaining I mean entertaining without having played the games in the first place. Some of the starred runs were, some of them weren't.
Most RPG TAS's aren't enjoyable to watch because relativistic gameplay RPG's have. I mean: If someone had played Golden Sun, they would be able to appreciate how much a TAS could 'break' the game. A platformer or FPS, on the other hand, requires no such insight in order to appreciate this.
DonamerDragon's Dragon Warrior Monster TAS is a masterpiece, but few people can appreciate that because it wasn't ever a widely played game.
I'm pretty sure the RNG for this game has already been thoroughly researched. I know there's a specific document on GameFAQs about it, though it may only pertain to getting rare drops. Still, it's something to think about.
Oh, and while you're at GameFAQs, check out the Golden Sun guide by yours truly. ;)
The RNG guide at gamefaqs almost only covers item drops (I used it when I played the game :P). It covers the in-battle RNG functions fairly extensively (and those are fairly manipulatable), but IIRC, the RNG function that determines random battles is set the moment you enter a room or move to the world map, and can only be reset (as far as I know) by entering a battle. Considering that nine times out of ten it's faster to just run from battles than to fight them, this makes for a fairly dull TAS.
I did some preliminary investigation into doing a TAS for this game, and I fully support anyone who wants to give it a shot.
it's a nice run^^
Allthough a 100% run would be greater of course xD
Nevertheless I enjoyed it^^
Pretty awsome what you can do with Luck Manipulation XD
What would a 100% run be defined as? Going through every gate, including the ones after the ending?
I thought this run had fizzled out after not seeing any posts in the thread for a few months. This was amazing. While people who have never played this might not understand the difficulty this game presents normally, rest assured that this was amazing. Watching it with the input command view turned on was entertaining as well.
Yessss
I watch almost all the runs published, and most of them submitted so long as they aren't for the Sega Master System. But that's just me.
More on topic: When most people watch a TAS, they don't really understand what it is. I know I didn't when I watched FODA's Mario 64 run and the Zombie's Ate My Neighbor's two player run.
Primary problems are too much text and that the luck manipulation is very unwieldy. If you could overcome those, then I would be extremely interested to see a TAS of it. But I'm pretty sure that that interest would only extend to those who actually played the Golden Sun games.
Not to mention that I have a feeling that most of the game's battling and class system would be woefully absent.
I played this game a ton when I was a kid. The soundtrack is pretty great imo.
Any way, it looked pretty solid. I didn't know that you could damage boost in this. Was it just me, or does blowing air out boost you a tiny bit in one direction?
Seriously, it's annoying to see people complaining about improvements to games. Considering that this run doesn't remove entertainment value from the previous version, there's no reason to complain.
