Finally got around to watching this. There was rather shocking number of places where very minor improvements were obviously possible. Overall, it still looked great though, and was awesome to watch, and i'd love to vote yes on it. Unfortunately though, the game was not completed, so i have no choice but to vote no.
I'm still trying to figure out why you didn't vote Meh instead due to emulator issues to this tas I too tried to see if it can still work but obviously I too got the exact same glitch with that emulator compared to my other emulator (psxFIN not JIN).
Because as awesome as it was, finishing the game is kind of important. This specifically breaks two rules.
Thank you for complementing our run and offering your experienced opinion on whether it should be published, but please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the rules/guidelines in place in order to not publish movies that the author has not bothered to complete? In our case, it is an unfortunate and unavoidable problem with the emulator which stops us from completing the game, which we would obviously want to finish if the problem could be fixed. From what I have learnt about this site, the existence of TASvideos is to provide entertaining and superhuman gaming movies for the public, and from what I can gather from the comments made in this thread, our TAS thankfully fulfils these requirements. If our TAS were to be published on the site it would obviously require a large disclaimer as previously mentioned, but as our movie includes all but a small final portion of an Any% run of the game to be watched by visitors to the site, I feel it would be a shame for it to not be published for this single reason.

I've been following your WIPs since quite early on, and your dedication to optimisation and refusing to leave a level until you're sure it can't be improved is both impressive and awe-inspiring. A very easy Yes vote :)

To the runners; my condolences... this situation is just ugh.
Thanks for putting yourself in our shoes, it means a lot. This situation is awkward and frustrating, but we make the best of it :P I must be honest, even if it doesn't get published on TASvideos, personally I'm very proud to have made a run/movie with Crash that others can enjoy, and that I can look back on in the future and relive the time I spent into making it :) /soppy speech

Yes, we did think this at first, and it possibly is partly this, but it doesn't explain why the game runs perfectly on another emulator such as ePSXe with the exact same iso. Interesting article though, thanks for linking to it. I may as well point out that the unhatchable egg I had a year ago was possibly a rare form of crack protection, and we encountered this also in desert ruins, where the egg in the cave wouldn't hatch unless we flamed the enemy on the same platform. Luckily we could do this with losing no frames whatsoever, so all good.

Okay, it's done! I redid the end of Dino Mines just now, and ended the movie on the first frame possible that meant that the screen going black when entering the black portal to the Sorceress' Lair happened on the exact same frame as it would when continually charging. I'll begin writing the submission message tomorrow, then see if Crash wants to make any changes, then hopefully submit tomorrow if all goes well. P.s. I also tried to change my name from Mikeyekimaple (my yt username) to Hutch on the .pjm file using notepad++, but it screwed up the file so that playback didn't work, so I'll leave it as it is :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xei7OU7GOsY Even more crazy shenanigans! I think it's brilliant that after so many years something as wacky as this can still be found in the game :) Edit: Mkdasher got 'Shoot into the Wild Blue' WR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkhKIkFCtKs It was only a matter of time really, he's shown great promise as an sm64 taser since entering the first tas competition a little while back :)

[6:06:51 PM] ~Crash41596~: [6:06 PM] ~Crash41596~: <<< PAL - It freezes due to copyright NTSC - Normal <Sorceress> NTSC-GH - Same [6:11:37 PM] Nosey: poo [6:12:11 PM] ~Crash41596~: We have 2 options, wait for a fix, or make it a 100 egg tas, which is lame. [6:12:26 PM] Nosey: agreed [6:12:54 PM] Nosey: is there really no iso at all that works? :/ [6:13:06 PM] ~Crash41596~: Yes [6:13:16 PM] ~Crash41596~: It's the emulator So that's it :/ Nothing we can do really. Tbh, although it sucks, we'll maybe try and submit an 100 egg tas, and it may be rejected instantly on grounds of not properly completing the game, but there's nothing we can do to change that, it's not like we'd do it on purpose. If no-one higher up in tasvideos replies here soonish I'll probably pop over to the IRC chat and see what they think about it, and depending on what they say, then we'll possibly tweak the last few levels (slight route change in dino mines).

I know they're two different versions, I never said anything saying that I didn't. Edit: [9:39:38 PM] ~Crash41596~: My friend said he was able to beat the game on a different emulator [9:39:43 PM] ~Crash41596~: with this iso [9:39:53 PM] ~Crash41596~: so it must be the emulator [9:40:40 PM] Nosey: so, at sorceress the same thing happened? [9:40:48 PM] ~Crash41596~: yup [9:40:52 PM] Nosey: :( Basically, using the exact same ISO with ePSXe doesn't encounter the weird glitch/intended occurrence at the Sorceress, but does with PSXjin. This is confusing, at first I assumed it was a built in intentional protection feature of the game, but the fact that it appears on some emulators but not others is strange. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. As before, if we can't get a working iso (now seeming unlikely as it seems to be an emulator problem), and if it won't transfer onto pcsx (also unlikely), then although it'll be a massive pain, it seems like we'll just have to copy over the input bit by bit onto a different iso. One small advantage is that we can fix little things in the run that we didn't like, although there wasn't really much, but main advantage is that if we use a PAL version (haven't discussed it yet), then there is a little skip in a fireworks factory miniworld that crash discovered/pulled off before (and recorded it), but proved to be impossible on the NTSC version (we both spent several hours attempting it).

Hi, another update. We've reached the Sorceress' Lair, but unfortunately, this happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StAC2SWf7wk which is identical to this occurrence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT9O62ZNQSU Basically, this means that unfortunately we've been TASing the game on a cracked/illegal copy, which means that this extremely irritating thing happens. We honestly don't know what to do, so as you can see on the webpage Crash has asked his fellow Spyro Speedrunners if they have a legal copy of the Greatest Hits NTSC iso. Even if we do obtain one, it may not sync, and if we can't find one, it seems like our only two options are to: -copy the input/improve on it slightly by redoing the whole 1 hour TAS -possibly submit as a 100 egg TAS (which is such a horrible idea, it would just feel uncompleted leaving it just one minute from properly completing the game) Either way, this has left myself and Crash feeling extremely frustrated, and I can only hope we can get it resolved soon - I was really looking forward to submitting it and having finished this whole thing so that I can fully focus on my revision.

How would you know that it's not the least number of button presses?
Wouldn't there be at least one other TASer who knows enough about the game to know when the game could be completed in 1 or 2 less presses? For example, andrewg suggested a 1 press improvement to Brandon's original "145 presses" SMB run (and eventually Brandon found 2 more presses could be saved as a result).
Possibly yes, but you could also apply this logic to say that someone else could know whether a frame (in a normal TAS aiming for lowest time) could be saved somewhere, and following this reasoning, no TAS would ever be published.

Hi, just an update on the run. With a helpful tip from lapogne (moving the camera away from buzz stops the wall of fire appearing), I went back and redid most of the buzz fight. I then did up to the island egg in Icy Peak and Crash took over up to exiting Spooky Swamp while I was on holiday. Both levels imo look fantastic, and we're very happy with them :) We spent a little while planning the route to collect the last two eggs in Midday Gardens, open the enchanted towers portal, and enter Sgt. Byrd's Base, which I then TASed last night. Crash also found/remembered a very helpful tip for Sgt. Byrd which is to aim at right angles to wanted direction, then fly and Hold L1 or R1, which gives much faster flight. This means that we lost a teensy bit of time back in Molten Crater, and definitely not enough to go back and redo it. We're making good progress and I'm very sure we'll have the 2nd main world finished by the end of next week.

My simple question is, will this be acceptable for publishing? I know it may seem sketchy in some parts, but overall really not much time at all can be saved simply through optimisation of this route. I'm very happy with how it looks at the moment. One quick note concerning the Buzz fight where you have to wait before hitting him, I have an idea that it may be because I hit him closer to the edge (at that point I had to stop and Crash took over), but I don't know, I'll test it quickly tomorrow. P.s. I'm Mikeyekimaple/Hutch btw, lol at April Fool's joke, it just started as I entered the site just now :P

Time for a bump! With crash41596 starting on a Spyro 3 TAS, I got interested in it again. He made this long wip, before realising he didn't need all those gems: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYXcF-Xz5fs I then convinced him to move to psxjin, but we had problems around a week ago when both of our tases of the first slope in sunny villa kept desyncing when we transferred the .pjm to each other, and we haven't spoken since, so I don't know if the run will continue, as I don't have the spare time to TAS the game myself, although I enjoy doing a bit here and there, and while he may continue with making it himself, I'm wary of how he tends not to try and optimise quite as much, although he's a frequent speedrunner of the game and knows it inside out. Here's a TAS I made of Icy Peak for fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAIqXMme2k4

That 2nd wip is FANTASTIC, exciting, fast-paced and I still admire the amount of time you put in to optimise each level as much as possible, I fully look forward to watching more :)

Might be worth mentionning this run is 14"63 and that the record is 14"57.
Shiiit, I thought it was 14"67, should've checked, thanks for correcting me.

I've been subscribed to this guy for quite a while. Problem is the only stuff of his that I've seen that's really quite well optimized are his SSX TASes, and many other videos of his are simply unoptimized tool-assisted playthroughs.

I was waiting for an encode to watch this, and it's looks brilliant! Great to see the fruition of your quickly-made, entertaining and optimised work, I looked forward to watching this ever since Alaktorn said you two were taking a break from mario kart to do this :)

"Luke, you can't cross the damaged floor on foot." :P Entertaining throughout, I haven't seen gameplay in this frog-like jumping style before, and it's fun to watch. Obvious Yes vote! Shame about the bgm though, it's a shame to miss out on some classic film music, which definitely would've made the video more exciting.

Is this WIP faster than NitroGenesis' up to the point he's done? If not, unless you want to do it for fun, there isn't much point continuing, because it won't be accepted for publication if it isn't optimised/has known improvements.

Nice use of the HP glitch! Are you two going to submit the run when you're done? I think it's different enough from SM64 that it could get accepted.
Yeah, we plan to improve the part already done and after finishing it then we'll submit the run. Main problems at the moment are desynching problems (when improving parts from the beginning) and the rabbit glitch for the 50 star door.
Lol@having an account for over two years and finally making your first post :) Yeah, desynching is without doubt the most irritating thing to occur during a TAS, but I hope you battle through it and finish this TAS, which I look forward to seeing more of!

Why yes, yes this is. I got my old one back here. I'll release a video in a bit, but it isn't much truthfully. I've got school again, so not as simple to constantly do things anymore.
That's cool, I know how you feel, I found it hard to find motivation to progress on Spyro 3 in the summer holidays (so hard that I didn't actually do any), let alone now I'm back at school, but I'm just glad you aren't gone :)
