Yeah, I tested that in the Vegas segment. It doesn't work. I just thought it would apply there too. Vegas has over 400 rerecords and im not even halfway through. So if you stop when you reach the desired score, it ends? I didn't know that.

1032. I used rewind which is very handy for these types of games. I know its low, but this is not perfect.

Link to video I have completed the new york part. This game is hard to tas. That rival mission was a nightmare. A couple of things i've discovered while making it, in the first event, I didn't know you could boost. And I didn't know that hitting the bus would "save time" by lowering the timer to end the mission faster. Its funny because the game says you lose time by hitting the bus. But that just means less time to get that score. As long as you reach the target, you're good. This wasn't used until dynamite. I wanted to use the stock car all throughout new york but at the last race, this wasn't going to happen. The cars were way too fast and I had to purchase the dragoon and upgrade it fully. You can't just get ahead of the car and have it push you. It will send you flying instead and good luck controlling the vehicle after that. No one has any speedrun of this game and for good reason. Its frustrating to RTA. There is an individual new york run on speedrun.com but its using a new game+ mode and has everything unlocked. Its longer because they have to do the "extra" missions that become once you beat the game.

No vote because Im not a big fan of heavy glitch runs. It just removes the game and that's a fact. Looking forward to seeing a glitchless run on the English version.

That doesn't work either... The first link expired. The second link just downloads the latest bizhawk build on main branch. Oh well..

[bump] I'm going to continue this project after discovering what happens when my laptop dies. It hibernates before shutting down. So when I turn it back on, it resumes. This is helpful as I don't have to worry about leaving my laptop plugged in all day running up my electric bill and heavy forbid a fire starts on the outlet. The only problem is I lost the windows build of the bizhawk ppsspp fork.. and the gitlab repo has expired... Can someone give a new link to the windows build so I can continue?

Link to video About the performance issues for that game in particular, a 60fps patch might work. That uses a cheat though and I don't know how to apply it.. And spikestuff, nevermind on the geekbench 6 score. It doesn't make any difference.

https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/15280630 Those are my geekbench scores for my machine. Performance has many levels. @Spikestuff, what is your geekbench score? I'm just curios.

Oh wow I forgot all about that thread The only reason I made this thread was to not spam the github page any further. Performance issues would be a big deal when you have a 5h run encoding at 15fps that would take 48 hours to encode(if im doing the math right). Not too long along I didnt know Sergio Martin is eien. Which made me feel guilty for being a pest.

Surprised no thread was made for this. My biggest issues with the current build is linux doesn't accept inputs and some games run faster than others. Midnight club la remix runs at like 20 fps at best. I understand that game is pretty heavy, but ratchet and clank size matters is pretty heavy too and runs at 60fps. Those 2 games sync very well from my testing.

Since bizhawk is very cpu intensive, Im trying to find something that would do good single core performance. I've tried vagon.io and they don't offer anything for best cpu + gpu combo.

I managed to install midnight club 2 on a windows 98 hdd. My setup: configuration preset: 1999 think pad. CPU = pentium iii hard disk is 2000 Installed direct x(not sure if its direct x 9 though) The most far I've gotten was by setting cpu core to dynamic for the install. Once that was done, export hard drive. Then change cpu core to normal and add segment limits = false. Once you try open that, the error in the console shows up. Any help would be appreciated to get this working.

Yeah, but the problem is when you try to open a windows game like midtown madness that requires windows 98, the joystick isn't picked up. There's a screenshot on the midtown madness thread I provided

I'm working on a tas of midtown madness. How do you enable joysticks/gamepads in the core? To be clear, I'm not talking about gamepad in the front-end. But in the dosbox core. I'm limited to mouse and keyboard inputs with the game. I also have a windows 98 hdd made.

The intro can be skipped by pressing enter. I just left it there for entertainment reasons. About mouse movement vs keyboard, I guess I could bind those to the analog stick on my ps4 controller? Also, unless you tried tasing midtown madness yourself, the game is very glitchy. The car randomly freaks out and I have to do weird inputs to get around it. Like the car slips into the floor or goes off the map. Thats my excuse for not optimizing movement fully. Also, long turns end up having the car spin out to a complete stop.

Midtown madness is basically the precursor to midnight club series. I've been looking forward to tasing this game for a while. To get it working, following the windows 98 installation. Insert midtown madness in an xml file with your hdd for win98. Follow the installation steps. I'm using midtown madness Chicago edition. Once the game is running, its gonna run very slow at first. Go to options and set the renderer to software renderer. This will boost speed BIG time. And adjust the settings further for more speed like lower the resolution down(duh). Enable speed loading. Click done. Exit the program to save config. Overwrite the hdd. I'll begin work on a tas when I get around to it.

I'm currently working on a Midnight club LA remix tas. Its not gonna be perfect, as these types of games are very hard to truly optimize. The RTA record is 7h17m and is a complete mess. Theres even several races where he doesn't get 1st place. Which to be fair, I couldn't do it any better in 1 sitting. Optimizations include: not banging into walls on turns, maintaining a high speed, using slow mo ability when necessary, not crashing into any cars, heavy use of slipstream turbo(pretty much required to win). My only fear is encoding is gonna take forever. On my machine, I'm using intel n150 with 16 gb of ram. Running linux mint zara. The linux build of ppsspp currently doesn't recognize input. I'm sure if the linux build was fixed, it would be boost performance. But for now I have to use wine.. If the linux build is fixed, I may restart the run. There is some routing errors in my current WIP.

The 50 year wait turned into 4 year wait lol. Psp tasing is now available in bizhawk. It's not really finished but might work with this game. I haven't tested it.

Voting meh. The run becomes predictable after you get mirror x-potion. What would be the strategy without that?

I've looked at this before and it's worth a try, but usually SSE is a bigger limitation than XP, which One Core API can't solve.
What is SSE?

https://github.com/Skulltrail192/One-Core-API-Binaries This is a capability layer for windows xp that allows you to run modern applications. Obviously, running something like gta v would just run super slow. And I don't really have the hardware to test this atm. I suppose running something like gta iii pc version would be more reasonable. Or midnight club 2 pc. Show your results in this thread

All you have to do is use winlator 9.0. Under box64 version select 0.2.8. Doesnt matter what settings you use after that. I lost my shit when I discovered this works! And yes, newer dolphin versions work. You don't need to downgrade!
