You could download the input file and watch the movie, and then you would see exactly what the current TASholder did. Alternately, try playing the fight at normal speed a few times, see if there's pattern you can see from the way you play it. Then, go play the game one frame at a time, watch the RNG, and see if there are particular RNG values that come up that make the boss do bad things. Figure out how to manipulate the RNG to avoid those bad values until the thing you want to have happen happens.

You can simplify a lot of that by using lookup tables though, and divide and conquer. This won't give you an optimal solution (you may have to merge terms and such), but it will simplify searching for solutions to more difficult problems later.

People have been working hard implementing PSXHawk and getting save/load state times reduced; maybe downloading 1.11.0 would help matters.

moozooh, you have Cosmic Star Heroine from Zeboyd Games to look forward to, and their other RPG titles are pretty good too. Gamer Maiden Sonia: Persona Q was so enjoyable!

Shitty about P4 being spoiled for you. There's still Persona 3 (which is apparently GRITTIER!!!) and possibly the upcoming Persona 5. I spent about 100 hours on it, much of that was running through dungeons on rainy days hoping for special drops while also completing sidequests. While I didn't find things particularly repetitive, there is a large amount of Enemy Recolour. It didn't bother me, as I was enjoying the mechanics and the story, some of which had been spoiled for me, but I still wanted to see things through. To be fair though, most of the bosses become glorified slapping matches if you're adequately prepared, which can reduce the fun factor a bit.

There's also SNES Super Aleste (Space Megaforce) which looks like this game's spiritual successor. No bell juggling, but you can shoot most powerups to turn them into bombs if you don't want to upgrade your weapon anymore.

Have you looked at the Persona games, moozooh? People told me that Persona 4 (for example) was grindy, but I spent next to no time grinding and instead worrying about party composition and skill inheritance.

Your actual level mattered much less in Bravely Default than your job levels and party composition did. There are some party combinations in that game that simply destroy everything they are pitted against, and combinations that will always struggle. I don't think having enemies level up alongside the player is as much of a problem as people think it is, when it is done properly. When there are new abilities on the enemy side making the fight an actual challenge, rather than just a numerical increase making the fight longer, it can be rewarding to try a fight at a low level and then try it again at a high one.

Bravely Default had fantastic mechanics. But I've always considered the most important part of an RPG to be the story. And Bravely Default has an extremely weak story.
I rather liked Bravely Default's story, the stakes became surprisingly epic once you got to the actual boss. I think the execution of the lead-in to the ending was lacking, basically the middle of the game is a boring grindfest with some actually challenging Asterisk fights, but the story was alright and the mechanics were fantastic as you say. I do tend to value my RPG game's mechanics over most everything else, which may be why I am more tolerant of Bravely Default's flaws, and I am looking forward to Bravely Second, coming ... eventually.

So, about Iwata himself, I didn't pay much attention to Nintendo's internal politics, but when he spearheaded a board of directors salary pay cut because he believed so strongly in the Wii U and refused to lay people off, I had to care. He was a programmer and a gamer, and he also understood business on a level that many executives will never reach. I can only hope that the next person to step into his shoes understands enough to follow his footsteps.

Actually, I gave up understanding Whitespace to make room. I don't consider it a terrible loss.

Without trying to devalue zeromus' words, programmers can learn tact. But it takes a long time, time that could be spent doing other things, and it's not an easy thing to practice. Responding to the thread in general, Kurabupengin asked a question. It was, quite plainly, a question asked out of ignorance, but it received two equally valid responses. Go back and read them, they're up there. Kurabupengin didn't understand the answer (which was predicted) and responded negatively. Not in this thread, Kurabupengin took to IRC where the context and subtext of the thread was explained to him several times, prompting him to come back and write his apology and rephrase his question. To which he received another polite response, and misinterpreted again. I don't know how better to say, "What you are asking is difficult, but if you had the skill apply an answer, you would have the skill to figure out the answer for yourself and thus not need to ask the question; furthermore any answer given to you right now will likely be out of date by the time you can use it," than what zeromus said originally, while still affording respect and not talking down to the other person. What Kurabupengin actually wants, as stressed by his second question, is to learn how to code, and again, as zeromus replied, the best way to learn how to code is to sit down and start writing code. There is no malice in those words, no disrespect. This thread derailed into "who's being rude" because there are two languages being spoken here. One is English, as spoken by programmers, which values being concise and precise, the other is English, as spoken by non-programmers, which appreciates ambiguity and vagueness. The vague question ("How do I do X?" which actually meant "How can I learn how to program to eventually do X?") was met with a precise answer ("You lack the skill to do X, otherwise you would not need to ask.") and disjunction followed. Kurabupengin, answering your actual question again, pick a language (C# is a good starting point if you want to work on BizHawk, but any of the object-oriented languages is good), tinker with it, get better at tinkering with it, and when you think you have the skill level required to start poking at BizHawk's internals, track someone down, ask them where the bug and feature list is, and see if there is something you can take on for yourself.

You can cancel this submission, but still use the input file as the basis for a submission that beats the existing record (which yours seems to do) with an optimal path (which yours does not do, as noted).

Warpless does not imply 100%, though 100% implies warpless.

I stopped watching after 1-4, because the current NES run has spoiled me forever on tricks involving shells and flight. I'm not going to vote No because I didn't watch the entire submission, and there might actually be some good stuff in there.

I went and fixed my laddering at 3:33 (if you watch closely, he jerks back to the right when grabbing the second ladder) -- one frame. Which must have hit a frame rule or something because that singular motion has saved me 15 frames into Forepaw. And, OmnipotentEntity, it removed my need to stagger-step in front of the Myconid.

I believe you are correct, Felipe.

Non-official games (hacks, homebrews, etc...) Non-official games are allowed for submission. However, they go through more scrutiny than other games. This is because the game itself also becomes a subject to judgment, so it must be a high quality and notable hack or homebrew with a strong following. The TAS should be high quality on its own merit, and must also show something interesting compared to other game(s) made on the same game engine, if applicable.

Also, if the discussion thread I vaguely recall reading is correct, you could skip some bosses but are deciding not to. Is there a reason for this? And, it's nice that you're not using the Game Genie code to enable Tails. Is not having Tails the main reason why this is slower?

Without that stutter step, in 100% of trials (with this timing -- when I was slower it was easy and the following didn't happen), the Myconid turns around halfway through my jump and hits me. Hard. Without the stutter, it turns around on every attempt to clear it, and if I jump one frame later, I jump into it and get hit backwards, and that's just worse. As for the middle step, you can't clear it at top speed, you're forced to land on it. I can upload my .bk2 if you want to play around with it, the stuttering happens at frame 19047.
