Could it be a problem with Safari itself?
I couldn't download the .avis either. I just assumed it was because they were taken down by the time I tried, but we could be looking at a problem between the site and safari. Just letting the movie load in the browser then going to "save as" worked, though.

Haha, pure gold. Pure. Gold. Even if some tracks can be improved, this is the most entertaining thing I've seen in a while.

I think that a movie that beats Zelda 1 as quickly as possible but also beats Zelda 2 in a playaround kind of style would be a good watch. You could adjust the goals of the Zelda 2 portion to match how long the Zelda 1 movie will be. Perhaps simply return all crystals using whatever glitches. It would not be a dual TAS per se, but more a 'special feature' of the regular Zelda 1 TAS. Initial testing indicates that this is probably doable. I have had a hard time keeping everything in both games synced in the past though...

Usually when I find an improvement to one of my runs it's after publication, because I watch the avi with 'fresh' eyes. I've been lucky in that all the games I've worked on have been fairly hex-friendly, so working in new discoveries during the actual process of making a TAS doesn't always mean restarting. I'm guilty of not restarting if the discovery is very minor, but usually it's worth begining again. When Arc pointed out an opportunity to save 5 or so frames per down-elevator in Zelda 2 (working out to a few seconds over the whole run), it made me start working again. I got together with Rising Tempest, and we wound up finding better boss strategies and an improved route. The new version was ~44 seconds faster as a result. I probably wouldn't have even bothered to start over if Arc didn't say anything, or just left it at "I noticed some small errors". Maybe Rising Tempest would have taken a stab at it still, I don't know. It seems to me like that ought to be the way to TAS though.

Kid Icarus is one of my most memorable games. My parents used to plop me off at my grandmother's house when they went on vacation, and Kid Icarus was the game I passed my time with, because no matter how long I played it, I never beat it. I was stuck in castle 3 for a full 3 years. It never occured to me to actually map it on paper though. Anyway as you can probably imagine listening to this music and running around like this: for three years leaves a lasting impression. Also, eggplant wizard? That is the best enemy ever made! He doesn't even do anything to you, except put an eggplant on your head! It isn't even magic, he just has huge eggplants. So big you need a doctor to get it off your head.
This post reminds me of an old site, NES Nation. This is only compounded by the fact that the webmaster's name is Alex. I think this is pretty solid proof about who you actually are.

I drew this sprite-style Link one day for no reason. I like many of the games Link is in, especially Zelda 2. My previous avatar was also Link, from that game, in his falling/damaged pose. But I thought that was a bit impersonal. So I changed it. I think a few people preferred the old one. Before that, I used a drawing of Kary from FF1, as I was into testing that game and trying to get a run off the ground. I must have had another at some point. I don't beleive I've only had 3 avatars. If I had mood avatars, I'd probably just draw eyebrows or change his colours. I'm pretty happy with having a permanent blank stare.

I agree that competition makes good movies. Competition doesn't mean "don't post your movie, as it is MY movie!" which is why pride was brought up in the first place. Sharing information makes sense in a collaborative effort. Not sharing that information when no competition is going on doesn't make sense.

I don't agree but in many games, unfortunately, I admit it is true. Btw, you didn't answer my question. What is our goal if we can't reach perfection?
Perfection.

Highly enjoyable movie, good watch. As such, I am voting yes.

Think about what you're complaining about. Your run is ruined. peole won't be surprised by your run. I get the sense you aren't recognizing the difference between a "pride run" and a run you are proud of.

I try not to get involved with these arguments because it's hard to seperate the actual discussion from the clash of egos, but I would like to throw in my 2 cents in this case. I don't particularly care if the (J) or the (U) rom is used, as long as the actual gameplay is better/faster. I don't really read the game dialogue regardless of the language. I don't really care about minor graphical changes. I don't even really care if the dialogue is slower. Swastikas are not more interesting than words in English and vice versa. Opimized gameplay is what I like. Given 2 runs with the exact same gameplay and the only difference being English vs Japanese, Censored vs Uncensored, I'd pick the (U) version since it's what I'm familiar with. A (U) run should not obsolete a (J) run with the same quality ingame play and vice versa (unless there was an 'obvious' rom to use, and this game does not have an 'obvious' choice).

Considering the new direction- Is there a way so that possible new members have to answer a "do you want your ratings to be public [y/n]" style choice when registering, if this is not already the case? It could detract from the people who register the very instant they learn about the site, but it might increase awareness about community involvement.

Level one is finally done. ~180 frames faster than whatever version of BoltR's run I have. It occurs to me I don't have the version posted in this thread, so I'll have a look at it. Clicky for download. I may redo the last part of level 1--try to set myelf up to get the last item better. If I've made any mistakes, now's the time to tell me. I hate this game :(

I have had mixed results playing runs on snes9x for mac. Some worked all the way through, some failed right at the start. It's pretty hit and miss. You can run linux if need be.

Inzult is apparantly Croation for insular, so a lot of .hr sites popped up when I googled. It appears that someone from the Faroe Islands uses it as his name on some youtube-esque sites.

I was just standing around outside, drinking a coffee and having a smoke, when this idea came to me. Does this route sound like it would work? 1. do a partial healer glitch to warp to the graveyard, but not break the game 2. go in the back way to get the hammer 3. up & a (maybe) 4. Get the life medicine 5. get fairy 6. up & a (maybe) 7. do the healer glitch 8. warp to the great palace-- somehow 9. find an open celeing/elevator in the great palace 10. make the fairy glitch work to get to the end 11. kill dark link I'm not too solid on 8-10, but if there's a reasonably quick way to get to/through the great palace, this could cut out the need for jump, the handy glove and downstab.

Sounds like a crooked-cart style glitch. I've picked up more jars than you are supposed to be able to get in the past. I ended up with just 1 bar of magic. Made the game impossible.

I know that dodgeball has dodgeballs, but I don't think it has ball advance. Are there any emulators for Mac with ball dodging and dodging of balls?

I agree with this sentiment, and would give it a bit of a shot myself if I had time.

Which I suppose begs the question, does it matter if the TAS is done on a PC or Mac?
As far as I know, none of the emulators used here have builds for OSX-- please someone correct me if I'm wrong because I want one too :'( However, it is possible to run windows or linux on a mac. I have never done this myself, (and I really should look into it) but this might be a good starting point. That's about as helpful as I can be on the subject, sadly.

1-0: select savestate slot 1-0 F5: save state left shift: load state tab: pause emulation spacebar: advance frame q, w: Start, Select a, s: A, B F11: auto hold F9: clear auto hold arrow keys: D pad \: fast forward ,: frame display .: input display Player 2: i,l,k,j: up, right, down, left u, o: B, A y, p: Select, Start For save management, I use 1 as a save at the beginning of the level/area/boss or whatever and just cycle through the others. If I need another anchor point, I use #1 again. Because of this, if I happen to make a mistake before state 1, I usually have to rewatch and make a new save. That's why I know where my fast forward button is.
