Levels 40 - 60 actually occur *relatively* fast when compared to the natural progression of the game in completing all the quests, which is in my opinion, a good reason to do a full-quest run. In Nightmare and Hell, if you actually do the quests, you gain levels pretty quickly. Also, would you play with the /player 8 option so that you could gain more XP, as well as have the game on highest difficulty?

Okay, I finally succeeded in getting a session to play back without desyncing. I went to Tools> Record New Movie, and named the movie SFWalk001.gmv. I checked the box "Record from now and make a savestate," and named the savestate SFWalk001.gs0 (just to not confuse myself). I recorded for awhile, hit "Stop Recording," and then played the movie back by selecting "Play Movie/Resume Movie etc etc", and selected the appropriate file. Then checked "Play from savestate," and selected the appropriate savestate. And everything perfectly fine, no desyncing, it's awesome. HOWEVER, how do I continue recording from that point now? I can figure out how to start a new movie (continuation) from the point I left off at. Any advice?

Anything else on this? I would love to get to recording. Is there perhaps an emulator that's better-suited for recording avi's? Or do any of you know of any step-by-step FAQ's/Manuals on recording w/ a genesis emulator? Thanks! -Ish

OKay, I get what you're saying about creating the srm, and have done exactly what upthorn said - I opened the rom (bin), then immediately closed the game, then changed the srm file that formed to read only. I'm not sure what you're telling me I need to do after that though... Thanks for all the help! Update: Actually, the 0-file size srm isn't going well... it keeps loading as 16kb file size whenever I create one. I try to open the game then immediately close it, but nothing shows up. When I wait for the "Sega" screen to appear and close, it's at 16kb. Any suggestions?

Thanks upthorn, I'm playing Shining Force 2 (the file name is: "Shining Force 2 (E) [!].bin" ), and I'm using Gens 9.5c As far as type of video goes, I'm simply just wanting to document a fullgame walkthrough that I post on youtube - I know, nothing tas-related, but since you guys are the professionals at this stuff, I figured you'd be the first to ask. So, by that, I assume I want to create a gmv file, then sync it with avi? I've tried a couple times, but I don't know if I was doing it wrong, because the game always desynced after the loading screen. Thanks!

Hello, If I'm looking to record a video of me playing through a game on Gens, could someone give me some sort of step-by-step walkthrough of how to accomplish that? I have Gens 9.5, and every time I record something, it desyncs, so I didn't know if there were some things I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated, even a link to a full discussion on recording via Gens. Thanks

Hey, I have the proper ROM version and the most recent ZSnes emulator, but I'm not really familiar with how to run smv files - can someone give me a quick primer? Edit: Nevermind, I'm stupid, I downloaded the most recent Snes9x and everything works fine. Good work on the battles!

Can someone actually make a movie of this and upload as mpeg or avi? I can't get the gmv to work properly.

What kind of percentage are you doing for this? For instance, all maps secured, even special dungeons at the end? Or just as fast as possible.

So is anyone actually working on this, or is it more of a wishlist thing right now? Also, are there even DS emulators that are worth a damn yet?

I'd be most interested in seeing some form of 100% run of this game (or an "all-exits" game) than just a run-through speed run.

Hi there, I've been discussing with a few people over at SDA for a few days now about doing a 100% SotN Run. I have a few things to talk about first, and would like any suggestions or advice that could be offered. By 100% (or, as the game calls it, 200.6%, I think?), I mean: * Full Map Coverage, including secret areas accessible without glitches. * Full list of relics collected. * All power-ups (Life Boosts and Heart Boosts) collected. * All "boss" monsters defeated. The ones I'm a little iffy on would be: * All monsters defeated. By that, I don't mean everytime I come across a monster, I have to fight it, but rather, I encounter and defeat at least 1 of every monster. That gives me the whole monster catalog (or whatever it's called). The only time I see this becoming a true issue is in situations like that one monster the Lesser Demon boss summons (the Mudman?), and that's the only place in the game he can be encountered. That potentially makes for a very long battle if he takes too long to summon the monster. * All original items owned by Alucard collected. This was brought up by a friend of mine, but he said that since Death took those items at the beginning, I should get them all back. That means Alucard's Sword, Shield, and Armor, Necklace of J, and Twilight Cloak(?). Not sure on this one either, but since I get the Sword and cloak anyway in my own runs, that shouldn't be too outlandish. * Glitch-only areas. I don't know much about these, but I know they exist (like that one right inside the main gate, the second you start, that lets you go down into some cave with a save point?). It seems silly of me to work towards that kind of goal, but it may be necessary for some people to count it as 100%. I guess if it's an area that would be accessible in the console game, then I should have to try to get to it on the emulator, but I would definitely like to discuss this with people. I wouldn't use save states, though I would probably use save points if I did it that way. I would love to do a single-segment run, but I have an irritated sciatic nerve, and can't sit for more than an hour or so at a time, so would have to save and take breaks. It's been recommended to me that I should (or would have to) include all monster drops (items that can only be obtained by random drops), as well as at least one of every item in the game. I'm really doubting that this would be very feasible. I'm honestly not very interested in a "luck manipulation" run of the game, which is what the game would become if I did that. I've studies several other runs of the game, but since none are 100%, I wouldn't be able to use their particular sequence breaks. However, I have mapped out a strategy that gets all the necessary locations out of the way quickly enough, and then circles around (once I have the bat and the super jump) to get certain other areas. I would love to discuss this with someone who has given this project at attempt, or either knows the map and "standard" sequence very well. I also think that I would do my best to not use the whole Shield Rod/Alucard's Shield effects, or the Crissaegrimm. I know these aren't cheats or glitches, but it makes the game less fun (in my opinion). I've mastered enough of the battles that I think I could do it in a good time without using those, and the battles I'm not sure of, I would learn to master (such as "locking" galamoth so he can't move, and such). So, this is basically where I ask, what do you guys think? Do you think the options I outlined above would qualify? Should there be more? Less? I honestly don't really like the idea of abusing glitches, deaths, etc, but if that's how it would have to qualify, then I'm willing to give it a shot. It would just require me to essentially to relearn the game. Thanks, -Ish

Hey there, I've tried downloading various videos from the site. I've downloaded the avi's, as well as the smv files. The avi's don't work on any media player on my computer. I've downloaded the most recent divx, and my Winamp and Win Media Player are all up to date. They won't work. I can't figure out how to play smv files with snes9x either. I've tried to just select it in the "Play Movie" option, but nothing ever seems to work. Is there a "walkthrough" anywhere on how the smvs work? Are there special codecs I have to have installed for the avi's to work? If so, what are they? Thanks, -Ish
