Hello party peoples. I've done some revamping on my website. I linked everything together to be found here: http://jxq.skuzz.com. Hopefully things look a little better, especially the TAS page. The reason I'm posting is because I also put up the album I did before My Voice. It can be found on the main page, or directly linked to here - My Words. I finished My Words in late 2003, almost three years before finishing My Voice. So if this doesn't seem up to par with My Voice, that is probably why. I also added a third page with a few other songs available for download. Feel free to comment on anything.

if the movie looks perfect, it is perfect.
From a watching perspective, yes, and I do believe it should be published. But from a TASing perspective, no, and thinking otherwise is like wearing blinders. Compare it to a scenario of a different route used that is ultimately slower, but very optimized for the slower route. It looks perfect, but it's not. That doesn't stop publishing usually, but people have pointed it out / complained before. The main difference is that not turboing through stuff is a very very easy fix.

zggzdydp: You can think of all parts of the game the same as getting critical hits. For example, you must find the earliest frame to press the B button to whip and get a critical hit, and you can't just use turbo in that case. In the same way, you can find the earliest frame to press the A button which advances the dialogue, or you can find the earliest frame to press the L or R button to start a new dash. If you use turbo, you may be off by one frame in some cases. The effect is not too great for some of the stuff in this game. I believe sliding and dashing both have even-numbered delays. (10 and 26 if I remember correctly) But there are situations where it is important to know which frames you are sliding/dashing on - entering the skull knight room for example. Though I have criticized a good deal about this, this is a greatly improved run overall, and deserves to be published.

Can't you two talk about stupid shit like this when you are in person instead of on an internet forum, especially considering the fact that it doesn't concern anyone but the two of you?

Much improved. HOWEVER I'm actually quite annoyed that you still used turbo through most parts of the game. What's the point of luck manipulating critical hits for small gains if you're going to piss them away later?

I doubt it. At least, it hasn't sold enough to get onto this list: Best selling games (Genesis) Also, calling for a thread lock to stop discussion immediately after giving your own point is pretty lame - though not quite as lame as posting to say "It's better to ignore this."

Phil, care to elaborate on why you think the rating system produces unreliable results? Ironslayer, you can add me to the list of people that think this game is shit. I think I first played this game in 1990 or 1991. I remember thinking that the music sucked, the graphics were only slightly better than some of the later NES Mega Man games, and the game was repetitive, boring, and pointless. Watching the game these days, I mostly think "Wow, this is pretty gay." Comparing it to Super Mario Bros. or Pac-Man is ridiculous. Altered Beast did very little to advance video gaming, except maybe start the trend of awful but hilarious voice acting.

I've tried to put this sound-toggle option into 1.43 for a while with no success. I'd go into detail but it'd just be a whinefest. The only important part is that I have utterly failed at getting a working compiler on my system. This feature in particular would allow me to make cool AVIs for existing Super Metroid runs, removing inactive scenes, but keeping the music and sound effects in sync. Fabianx's patch does work here, but the problem is that the game doesn't always use the first five channels exclusively for music, nor the last three for sound effects. It doesn't have to be pretty, or customizable, or user friendly, or efficient, or well-written - it just has to stay in sync with the current version. If someone could code and compile toggles for all the sound channels, I'd be in their debt.

First time I've seen this RM1 run. It was interesting, mostly due to how different it is to the more recent runs of the game. Times have really changed o.o (Also the 20fps thing bugs me. This is not the N64!)

I'd just like to point out that Vectorman 2, one of the most popular games for the sega genesis, took 6 months to encode. If that wasn't encoding bias, I don't know what is.
The delay on this particular run's publication came from desync issues with the encoders. So I guess you don't know what bias is :P

This movie is kind of boring, like it's predecessor. I'm voting meh. I agree with Upthorn's post very strongly. When I was young, I was playing River City Ransom and my Dad asked me what the game was about. I told him that you beat up other people until they die so you can take their money. A run of this game on TASVideos is recommended for first time viewers. A large percentage of video games involve rewards for killing things. Why isn't anyone talking about morals there? Killing is pretty bad. I would say that on average, killing people leads to a lot more death than gayness. Some facts: 1) Most people do have sex. 2) So do most bears! 3) Some people are gay. Even if you wish they weren't! 4) I have no relevant data on the gayness of bears. I could go on and on, about TASVideos's love for swastikas and Canadians, but I've made my point and then some. To summarize: Mega Man shoots with guns. Guns cause evil things like Columbine and Bill O'Reilly. Say no to tool-assisted violence.

I think this especially goes for no-votes.
Because I didn't enjoy watching it. I rarely enjoy watching Zelda games, so take this as you see fit.

And I made a quality run with frame count, so your attack doesn't fit into mine either. That wasn't my point. Nevermind, just forget about it, like I should have in the first place.

Well how bout that. o.o I guess it's similar to SDW's enemy block pass through. I wonder which types of blocks it will work on. Though I can't think of a place that this would save time in this or the other runs.

This is probably the least biased explanation we have of the differences: Mechanics of the in-game timer. You'll notice this summary avoids phrases like "in-game timer is the only way to make a quality run", and "in-game timer is just a way for TASers to ignore the tougher parts of optimization", which are both very opinionated, and attacking the other side.
