Bionic Command (U): Movies play back fine, but during a laggy part of this game (such as the end of Area 6 or Area 9), loading a state while recording can cause the game to freeze, stuck on the same frame with a music note just playing. I've had this happen both with 100% speed play, 50% speed play, and when using frame advance. Note that this isn't the emulator freezing, as the frame counter still goes as normal - I'm guessing it's improper loading of the state, which when emulated is just garbage. Sometimes this can be undone by loading the state again, or previous states. Sometimes not. Sometimes, I can load the same state over and over, and every 3rd or 4th time will not freeze, and the others in the chain will freeze with different screens, but follow a pattern. It makes TASing some parts of this game very tedious, as I'm loading states to try and recover, then stopping the movie, closing FCEU, reopening, replaying the movie in read-only, and loading a previous state to watch up to the point of freezing, and trying again, hoping it won't freeze this time. This happens in 0.98.16, 0.98.15, and even 0.98.12. I haven't seen this behavior with other games, though I haven't been looking for it.

I'm not able to get the file from the zip, but I wanted to let you know that if you change position 0x08 from 02 to 12, it will stop asking for those 2 values on the movie play screen.

You defeated Super Mario World in 14:03.7, because you defeated without the use of running. "Hop glitch" is required because when transporting the items; pressing the direction with Y will cause the increase velocity, which is against the rules. Oh, you used the Star Road to skip the level, saving more time. Very good job Gregs! This will publicated alongside the existing Super Mario World run instead of obsoletion. For the publish, please review encoding guidelines. The youtube website will also assist in medium. Snapshot suggest:

What a delightful game to watch :) My favorite levels were the ones with multiple characters, with 3-8 being my favorite of those. Seeing them switch back and forth so quickly with the goofy sound effects was fun. I liked it, and I voted yes.

I forgot to discuss my vote: Well, there is no reason whatsoever to vote no, nor is meh a good enough option. I really do think a best out of ten system would be better, as I would of given it an 8 and in terms of percent I would have given it 92% (yes, confusing I know I'll explain why shortly). That might sound confusing but an eight is to signify that its not a high 9. Since I can't rate I'll simply have to vote yes. (By the way, I voted no)

I just noticed, thanks to AKA's March Fools' Day submission, that the level time listed in the submission for Marble Garden 2 should be 0:35, not 0:34.

16777215 = 2^24 - 1 = number of levels in Blue Sphere. It actually is April 1st somewhere now. But, this was submitted 7 minutes before that happened. :) I wonder what other surprises we'll get today (and tomorrow!).

Laughing_gas, do you have to question everyone? Besides, his reasons are in his post:

Is reset-recording far off? It might be better distribution of effort to design a route with save-resetting in mind and bank on the fact that the capability will be in the emulator eventually. But, for someone who just likes to plan routes for fun, this could be an interesting puzzle regardless. :)

I voted yes. This game is surprisingly entertaining for me to watch. I should play through the color version some day.

Rridgway, 1. The whole "someone should TAS this" is getting a little old. One sentence is not enough to get real discussion started. 2. Your ideas for games to TAS are bad. 3. Your postwars with chalame are derailing perfectly good threads. 3. This post was brought to you by the number 4.

If someone else were to TAS this game, it would help if s/he was very familiar with the game, almost to the point of obsession, and if s/he already tries to make influential decisions as if s/he were the author, that would put him/her halfway there. It could also be beneficial if s/he looked down on those who knew less than s/he did, and made overzealous efforts to keep the forum topic exactly where s/he thinks it should be. Alas, I can't think of anyone who fits this description.

I don't understand what you mean by "segmented run archive". You asked for an SMV, and the only SMV is the full run. However, there are savestates available near the top of the submission text which you can load in read-only mode after beginning the movie to jump ahead to various parts in the run. You can also fast forward the run in SNES9x (default tab button), which should turn an hour into five minute or so (estimating). There's also a mirror on google video, if you just wanted to watch a particular part, that may be more useful.

My first attempt was a practice run at Super Smash TV, and it kept desyncing. I later learned that there was an emulation sync setting that made desyncs pretty common in that game, but at the time it discouraged me for a while. My first submission a few months later was Skate or Die 2. It was published 15 months later! \o/

The important thing to know is that comparing two submissions on different versions is not as simple as comparing their ending times, and so you should elaborate which differences are caused by improved play and which are caused by a version change. It will make things more tedious to compare to the previous run if you are using a different version. Without knowing the specifics of this game, I think it's important for the author to do the run on the version they are happiest with. I liked this the best:

Because it is similar to the approach I would take :)

IMO if someone takes a little piece of text on the left-side column of an internet forum so seriously, this someone should get a life. Who cares what that little piece of text says? Come on.
Just pointing out what I think are problems here. I see you disagree, but thanks for the insult.

Baxter, if the problem is that we have ranks now that are unbalanced and subjectively assigned, why not petition to remove those unbalanced and subjectively assigned ranks instead of petitioning for new ranks that are assigned in a more fair manner? This makes it seem that you are saying that adding additional ranks of different types is the solution to unbalanced and subjectively assigned ranks. It's not, it's simply a coverup. If, on the other hand, you don't think this is the problem, then you should stop bringing it up in your arguments for a new rank, as it would be irrelevant.

Also, think about it the other way: the western society puts considerable significance into career and self-advancement, but without any ways to aspire, would there be any point in such thing, at all?
Yes. Aspire because you want to, deep down inside. At least for me, if I do the things I truly want to do, instead of those expected of me, I am much happier. This applies to my reasons for TASing as well - because it's fun, not so I can be the next "master ninja" or "precursor" (I'd love to hear an explanation denouncing the favoritism of those ranks). Play for entertainment, not ego.

To summarize my (very different) position in the discussion moozooh referred to: I think the ninja rank is pure crap, and I've thought this ever since Bisqwit's piss-poor definition of it. I don't believe having this rank (or "master ninja", or "precursor", as I roll my eyes) helps the site in any way. I'm of the opinion that any forum ranks can cause implied superiority and favoritism. The tradeoff is that they give people something to aim for - but aiming for a subjective rank, to me, is just stupid. Although ranks based on concrete rules and not "who Bisqwit thinks fits these conditions" are less likely to cause these feelings, I would still prefer that the ranks were abolished altogether. Adding in the rank of "Expert Player" proposed here would not remove the problems that the ninja rank causes, it would only hide them a bit more. It should be noted that I've been told by several people that my opinion is in the vast minority.

Oh, right, my bad. I'll rephrase: I don't know the game but somehow I don't think "skateboarding game" and "a perfect candidate for a run" should be in the same sentence.
