There's a used video game (and other media) store called Preplayed.

I don't know the game very well. It looked like it was played pretty well, though I wondered about a couple small parts. What was a bummer for me was the boss fights. I didn't like most of your stylistic choices, as they usually were either "1p and 2p do the same thing", or "1p is the inverse of 2p". I'll wait for your comments before voting, though. At this point, it seems like a meh, but that's more for entertainment than optimization. Edit: So there was a reason for staying together during boss battles. Alrighty, I can give this a yes vote. I do believe the battles could still be made a bit more entertaining, especially ones where the hits have a lot of wait time between them.

I don't know much about compiling SNES9x, someone else did it for me. Once this fix is implemented in an official version though, everything should be good, and I'll update links at that time.

I was able to watch this run as it progressed, and each time I got a new piece, I never felt like fast-forwarding to it. So I've watched parts of this movie at least six or seven times, and I still enjoy it. One of my favorites for sure.

Vatchern, if by playaround, you mean in the sense of that one Genisto did a while back (his "full amazing SMB3 run"), that would kick a good amount of ass in my opinion. However, that run wasn't a true 100% run either, so I'm not sure which route would be best to go.

I disagree. One of your suggestions was this:
    temp_a = temp_a - (RNG_Substractor + (1 - Carry_Flag)) ' that's how SBC
                                                           ' instruction of
                                                           ' NES processor
                                                           ' actually works
My example is very similar to this, and I do feel that it is obnoxious to read text formatted this way. It reminds me of a narrow newspaper column, or a website with too many banner ads along the sides. My point was that increasing usability for one group of users may decrease usability for another, and I stand by my statements you refer to as fallacies.

Wow, this HTML conversion is much better than mine :) Thanks! I will link to it in the submission text instead of the one I'm currently using.

If you can satisfy 95% of people with 10% of the work it takes to satisfy 99%, I believe it is wise use of the resource of time and/or effort. I also read the straw-man argument, and I'm having trouble seeing how I used it, but I'll take your word for it.

SNES9x Input Animator Rationale: I developed this utility to help with the idea of using input to create animations in TASing that could be viewed with input display turned on. This program can convert an existing SMV to use more or less controllers than it is currently using, and then input can be added. I kept adding more and more options to try and make the program easier to use, in hopes that others will be interested in its potential and maybe add it to their TAS projects as well. Basics: There are two "modes" to this program. The current mode is determined by whether or not an SMV file is open. Before a file is open, it is a playaround mode where you can create patterns, move them around, and save or load them. Once a movie file is loaded, options become enabled to select a beginning frame and duration to add the current pattern to. On a desired frame and duration (which will give an ending frame), clicking insert will put this pattern into the movie at that spot, and place the current frame at the first frame after this insertion. I tried to make this intuitive and work efficiently for basic ideas (such as scrolling text), but most things still need to be done "manually". When a file is opened, it is checked for which controllers are enabled and adjusts the allowed controllers as needed by graying out the checkboxes which aren't supported. The purpose of still having a checkbox is to indicate which controllers to overwrite for a certain frame, and which ones to leave alone. The most common example will be adding input to the extra controllers after the 1-player SMV has already been completed. To do this, uncheck Player 1's checkbox and add input to other controllers as desired. When the pattern is inserted, Player 1's input will not be affected. On the other hand, if Player 1's checkbox is left checked, the program will overwrite Player 1's input with precisely what is on the grid - if nothing is selected, it is overwritten as "no input for this frame". Due to the immediate way this program changes data, it is strongly recommended to backup any file that you plan on opening with this program. If you want different controllers enabled in the movie file than it was originally given, that can be done via Movie -> Controllers, when a movie is loaded. You can select which controllers to enable and which to disable, and a new movie file will be constructed, using data from the original file where applicable. It should be noted that the number of controllers can change the sync of certain existing movies. For example, taking the latest SMW TAS and converting it to 5-player will cause it to desync after Castle #1. I suggest anyone planning on adding input animation to their SMV should choose the controllers they want to use from the beginning of their movie. Credits: I would like to thank the following people for early beta testing:
  • Cardboard
  • Fabian
  • jaysmad
  • Maximus
Due to a bug in SNES9x 1.43 v9 or v10's input display, I recommend upgrading to Gocha's v11 here to take full advantage of this concept. It fixes the controller input display and does not affect sync. Please post questions, suggestions, or corrections here.

No, it's about readability, too. Things like this are pretty damn obnoxious to read, don't you agree? Or perhaps that looked correct on your resolution :P

To clarify: You use larger font, smaller windows, smaller resolution, and then want others to rearrange their content because you have to scroll horizontally? Allllllllllrighty..

Did you use this glitch in your Maxim run? If so, I completely missed it. Otherwise I haven't heard about this impressive discovery. 25 times? Man that's got to look crazy! First thing that comes to my mind is possibly skipping the Lightning book.

You can go full speed through one block by falling onto it at the right angle. Since there are no blocks after it, speed isn't reduced. Maybe this is what you did?

That direction changing is directly related to getting P-speed by the end of the first pipe. It's a huge pain, and I've yet to find any useful memory locations relating to how much speed is charged up.

I would like to offer my opinion on the version switch. It's identical to Kyrsimys's thoughts, so I'll just quote him: "For the gazillionth time, it's not because of the plot that I want people to use the English version, it's because of the commands used in battle etc. I don't want to be left wondering what the hell just happened."

While noticing that you left your second controller on for this TAS, I wondered if a second player would add anything to this game. I don't think it'd do much, but maybe I'm missing something.

Holy crap, people. I pointed out an EFFORTLESS way Rikku could improve his run by 7 seconds (By jumping to the left right before Bowser's death animation displays) and NO ONE has paid any attention WHATSOEVER to it!
This won't work. Try it yourself if you are so convinced. (I'm posting the same thing as others since you missed multiple responses last time.)

You also have to change byte 0x20. It's stored twice for redundancy. Also, I tried Alter's submission on the color Metroid hack and it desynced after about 2 minutes. :(

Haven't played the game, but this was real fun to watch. The only parts that looked inoptimal enough to bother me were the metroid fights. I'm voting yes on this canceled run :)

Due to an emulation bug, some portions of the game run too fast relative to the audio. Fortunately this does not have an impact on the actual gameplay.
This isn't entirely accurate. The game basically runs without lag on an emulator, where as on the console there is persistent lag throughout. It doesn't affect the physics of the game or anything, but I would say the line about gamplay not being affected is incorrect.

I don't fully share this view. Walking on egg-shells because someone, somewhere, will be overly sensitive when it was not intentionally blaspheming, is just restricting other's freedom unneededly (+ real English word).
Re: JXQ, You do a great job in pointing fingers and blaming everyone for whatever character warts you recognize, or just generally making everyone look stupid. How productive is that?
It could make them take another look at their post. Maybe. Or maybe it just makes me look like an ass. But you and Kaitoukid set that tone with this thread when you posted this:
KaitouKid wrote:

KaitouKid: Well, the point is clear. You are an atheist (or agnostic or whatever), and I am christian. :) And you rant angrily and use words like "fuck" and "christ" in contexts where they don't belong to. And I frown at that kind of behavior.
Both of these posts SCREAM "I'm better than you because of my religion / non-religion". Very inappropriate for both sides of the issue. (In small letters at the bottom, I'll also point out that you really have no grounds to criticize me on being "productive", but that is beside the point. You see, this way I'm still being the bigger person by not actually mentioning it - I'm only mentioning it here in passing. Yes, I realize this is pointing out more warts.)
