This is like when Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar a couple months ago. Can't help but be happy for the guys. I don't know anything about these guys and I think it's cool that they won just because they are different. American Idol makes me gag.

You never know what crazy people you might piss off unknowingly some day. The more information they have, the worse. Better to avoid that potential situation, I say.

The fire/cape trick is probably easily testable, but I doubt it works. Wow, that page is filled with useful tricks.

I found which memory locations were important for fadeout lag in SMW by taking two savestates after hitting the end-of-level tape that gave different fadeout lag, and comparing their different values with the memory watcher. I loaded the first state, and set those values to current. Then I loaded the second state and searched for ones that had changed. There were probably 200 different ones to test....I just started replacing their values, one by one, with zero, and seeing if that affected anything. It's a slow and tedious process, but it can be a starting point on something random like this.

I was going off of Arc's submission listing the differences more than anything, which made it seem like it was an important difference.

Yay I recognize 4, which is probably much less than others. #2, 3, 6, and 8 are there. #6 was just mean to put in a quiz :P

The only games I have that aren't on the list are Turok 2 (don't get that), F-Zero X (kind of neat), and Goldeneye (definitely get that).

It amuses me that myself and SXL basically got our nicknames in the same way. X just must sound cool as the middle letter!

You get a point for just naming that tune. You also get a second point by answering the other question.

Very informative. Perhaps this should be added to the WhyAndHow page? Also, lollerskates!! That is wonderful.

If I were you, I'd remember that sausages are, in fact, delicious and cook those, possibly with cheese depending on the type and shape of the 2 foods. And definitely some pepper. If I were you and also had eggs, I'd make a sausage cheese & possibly-expired-but-probably-still-good-ham omelette! Also pepper.

My main beef with SMK is that racing games often look similar to the console record counterparts. Plus, 1st place would yield the less-exciting weapons. But I've yet to really try it, so who knows. There's talk about it at its thread by others, so maybe someone else will beat me to it :) I'm having a really hard time getting myself to start something. Life is getting busy at the moment, I may take a short break. I'll post here when I do start something, though. Thanks to everyone for the ideas!

If the emulator lets the player set options that might affect playback, these settings should be saved in the movie file and automatically loaded during playback. Again, I don't believe any of our current emulators do this, but it seems so simple and would be so much appreciated.
Do you mean synchronization settings like WIP timing? Because SNES9x's later versions do save these settings in the movie file. If you load a movie that was made with an earlier version on a newer version of SNES9x, it will say something like "Verify: Settings not contained in movie file", I think. Another thing that I have found handy is the read-only toggle. This feature facilitates things like watching what was just done, or finding a specific spot to start re-recording from.

Overall, it should be published but not obsolete mine. The differences between versions make the Japanese version significantly more difficult. And people will be missing out if the Japanese version completely disappears.
They won't be missing out on much, because the differences are so minute that they had to be outlined in detail in your submission text. The Japanese version may indeed be more difficult, but not in an interesting way. It's comparable to increasing hit points of monsters and calling it a new difficulty. SMB2(J) and SMB2(U) are truly different games. This is the Japanese game with a slightly different leveling quirk and a few other minor modifications that often make play smoother and faster. Advantages to the American version:
  • Leveling up isn't arbitrarily constricted, allowing for more effective use of experience (and less "unneeded" leveling). Leveling up also can be declined to use the points for something else; allowing for more varied strategy.
  • Faeries can pick up items, allowing for faster dungeon travel (I think, as it appears the fairy spell can be used in place of a key more often). This is faster, but could be seen as less strategic, I suppose. Definitely smoother (no one will wonder "why wasn't fairy used here?").
  • No "WAIT" screen. That gets rid of 36 screens of non-action. Faster elevators also help this a bit.
  • Um... more colors? Nah I'm just reaching now.. ;)
Other changes don't seem to favor either version as far as I can tell, but I can't find one that favors the Japanese version in terms of making an entertaining movie. I'm guessing most people are indifferent about this since myself and Arc are the only ones who have said anything about it. Hmm, Arc's run is a Famtasia run but it's not in adelikat's "Improving Famtasia Runs" forum list.

Guybrush, the memory addresses I found that look like the best candidates for lag indicators are 02B5 and 02B9.

The easiest way to learn is probably to download an existing run of that game where the trick is done and watch it with "show controller input" turned on with the comma button.
