Does anyone have any idea why it keeps giving me different names? I kept wondering why I couldn't find it on my computer after downloading it several times, and it turns out the torrent was giving it to me as the correct file, with different names of other speedruns from the site - arkanoid, bubble bobble, boulderdash, then it finally put the correct nam eon it...and then i suddenly find four copies of a 4-hour .avi file in my speedruns folder >.<

Very nice. I had to go back and watch the first death sequence a few times to figure out what the hell i just saw. Only one thing.....chip and Dale are definitely chipmunks, not squirrels. And i'm not sure if gadget appears anywhere, but she's definitely a mouse and not a squirrel either.....the things you pick up in a mis-spent youth >.>

Much as I'm a HUGE fan of the game, I'm afraid I'll have to agree with the previous post: It's much more reasonable to have Morimoto's I-CAN-GO-EVERYWHERE-AT-ONCE scene from Gradius or Rockman zipping through 13 screens by traveling through a wall broadcast to the new viewers than a speedy zipping through magus' endless speech before his fight. Now on to other matters: 4:21? Is it REALLY faster to go through the rest of the game instead of bashing it out luck-assisted at low levels with the original three characters vs Lavos?

Having never actually beaten the game *obviously, since it was RIDICULOUSLY FREAKIN HARD*, I have to ask: For the final fight, do the springs just "go" all the time, or are you making them jump at specific intervals? For a while it looked like you were timing it to the music, but it slowly went off-sync before the queen died. Overall: excellent ^^ makes me wish I had bothered to play this game for any reason other than to laugh at the hilarity of it <.<

Oh dear lord no...I'm going to have to sit through this horrible game AGAIN... I'm immensely curious as to how you intend to avoid cutscene/oxygen damage, though.

Oh god. The very idea of this scares me. I've watched some people destroy this game live to the poinr that I was ready to throw up, and I couldn't imagine a 16-minute run... Which is why it's too bad the torrent won't point correctly >.<

No. no. and more no. I've been researching for a LONG time exactly how much I need to do before it's feasible to sprint to Lavos and end it(and whether it would be faster to do more levelling and spend less time kicking his arse), and how much luck manipulation goes into it. (I've wanted to make a run for a long time, but that's really the only emulated game I know well enough to try that hasn't already been owned) Starting with a bunch of levels and characters and items, etc, is a BIG no in my book.

My thoughts on the whole "ohnoeshax0r!" issue are pretty neutral - game is a game, whether it's created by a company like Nintendo or some kid with a hex editor and way too much tim eon his hands...Only difference being that fewer people will recognize and therefore appreciate it on that kind of level, the only thing I think of as an absolute no is making hacks to create more bugs...*much more fun to abuse the ones that already exist ^^* That being said, I'm curious to see a full exit run just to take a look at the interesting level design, I'm amused with some of the inventive ideas the creator had.

waugh. Okay, I really need to see this run....*goes to look for an MKV player* Also: is the torrent set up with the right file name? I had to add the file extension myself after downloading a bunch of garbage because it cam eup as yadda-yadda-tilus.torrent and didn't have the extension. EDIT: oookay, gonna retract this now, I wasn't sure if you could save any time by avoiding poke-center stops, but i see now that there are just too many opponents to kill for that. No objections, good job sir ^^ And after all that effort to explain why quick hit misses, I must have blinked...I didn't see it <.<

Very interesting considering the ridiculous nature of the game - I was almost in tears laughing at the save-the-children games...

hmmm...*shrug* maybe I'm wrong, I was under the impression that there were a couple of moves with enhanced versions *ex: kazuya's lightning uppercut* that had a just-frame check on them, and I've definitely seen a few of those moves used repeatly/relied on. Mostly irrelevant to the discussion, sorry to get us off-topic heh.

On a somewhat random note - has anyone mapped out where 100% items are? Would it be even remotely possible for a tool-assisted 100% run of the game? Was going back through my videos this morning and noticed it. Then again, I remember how ridiculously obscure the secrets are...

Sure, why not, I'll give it a shot. Someone please correct me if I'm way offbase here, but it seems intuitive enough... Videogames and the systems they run on are, in essence, a computer. Computers cannot be random, they're simply not capable of it. What they CAN do is use hash functions. They determine random events in the game such as drops from enemies, or in this case the block sequence, by measuring things that shouldn't be easily manipulated like the exact amount of time elapsed or the button sequence, then use it as the input for a random-number generator. With tool-enhanced runs, these not-maniuplatable things suddenly become not only possible, but quite easy to manipulate and it's suddenly not out of the question to have the enemy that happens to be right in your way drop exactly what you need at the time....or in this case, to get exactly the block to keep from topping out. Changing which frame you fire the shot to hit that enemy at, or randomly adding buttons, or even pausing, changes the input to the random generator and comes up with a different effect - trial and error eventually yields the one you're looking for.

Waiting anxiously - 26% so far. TYTYTYTY to DeHackEd for encoding/hosting. EDIT: dying on the "pick a box" screen in world 2 just made my day. This gets a giant WTF?! from start to finish, beautiful stuff. Can't wait to see what else he's got in mind... RE-EDIT: alright, having finally watched the end of it, I spent all of world 3 screaming things at my computer screen from the basic NO to comples obscenities, usually involving various allegations as to the heritage and sexual habits of the author....This is probably the single most entertaining video I've encountered yet, and I waste a LOT of time on superplay vids >.> Great stuff.

Oh my freaking lord - I used to be so addicted to this game in arcades *it was a little shorter and cut you off from gaining any more lives after a certain point* - can't wait to see this...

always remember those helpful old videogame tips: if you leave the Metroid lair with 000 timeunits left it takes you to a second quest, you can catch parts of the Rock Devil with gutsman's power if you time it just right, there's a code to get Widget for the final level of empire strikes back, and oh yes, King Hippo will occasionally stand up and beat the everliving tar out of you for three rounds, but he always loses the decision.

If this is headed for another MMX1&2 with smb1 and the lost levels, i'm just going to start crying now. And anyway, is there any way back to the title screen after you clear one of the games in that cartridge? I haven't played it in years, but I seem to remember having to reset the console to get it to play a different one...

I'd have to say I hold that one in about as much esteem as the Zelda 2 glitched run - it's interesting to be able to end input earlier, so I don't see why not to count it as the fastest clear time possible...but in my opinion it's not as interesting to watch as someone running and flailing balls-out through the ending to do it themselves. *shrug* I'd say put it out as a separate file rather than outdating this beautiful run.

Good call. You get to do Rockman, Metroid and SMB1. No, all sarcasm aside this is probably the only way to keep this debate from reoccurring at regular intervals, and the time spent on it is probably worth it in the long run, but it's definitely easy to say "too much work, screw that".

No, not really....You see, to take two different paths of the same game, one would have to do different things. And to use the same input, it is, by default, COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE to do two different things. It's pretty much outlawed by the very nature of the idea. The only thing I could think of that would be as funny is if it were possible to clear punchout/super punchout or something equally silly that way...or maybe two of the Mortal Kombat SNES games :P
