OK, I haven't watched the movie, but generally we don't accept movies without slowdown. It's really impossible to get the kind of quality we expect here with such a limitation... -Josh

Hmm, could there be a patch for this possibly? People shouldn't have to resort to the crap that is Famtasia to make runs with this IMO. If nothing else, FCEU's frame-advance key alone would make such runs better and less time-consuming. Just my .02, Josh.

Does this not work at all on FCE Ultra? I tried it and nothing happened. If that's the case, is this a legit NES glitch at all? I'd love to see a run with this, but... -Josh

Great stuff, never knew about that fast walljumping. I agree that taking no damage has a certain coolness to it (especially in infamously hard games such as this series and Batman), although I'm more a fan of pure speed. Excellent job, nonetheless. -Josh

Glad to hear you only had to redo the most recent level. Saw your movie, it's looking tight indeed! -Josh

Don't rush things, it definitely helps your movie to take time. Listen to what Bisqwit just posted, and see if you can do those parts of the game better. -Josh

Pretty cool. Do you REALLY need to talk to all those people in the village, though? I would enjoy watching a whole movie of this, so please do continue! *thumbs up* -Josh

NintendoRecords has a Magic Kingdom timeattack. Some room for improvement, I'm sure, but a boring game regardless. Guardian Legend, I fear, would be rather boring as well. A shame, because it's one of my favorite NES games. Agreed on Krusty's Fun House. If there was some way to speed things up in even the slightest way possible, ala Lemmings, then maybe. But as it is, no. Gargoyle's Quest 2, on the other hand, would be pretty cool from what I remember. Surprised nobody's done it yet. That Robin Hood NES game = no. Just, NO. Do check out Seanbaby.com for a hilarious review of it, though. Crash Test Dummies might be interesting because of your character's Maximum Retard Velocity. But then, I thought the same thing about Darkman. *shrug* I'm actually thinking about doing Wayne's World. I strongly feel that it may be both the worst NES game ever and the worst licensed game ever. It's short, though, so it'd be similar in spirit to the Dark Castle movie as this game is even more ridiculous than that one. -Josh

Ah, good ol' House of the Dead...one of my friends considers it THE best bad movie of the last 20 years. I wouldn't go that far, mainly because Space Mutiny still falls within this period (the friend in question hasn't seen that), but it is indeed the hotness. Easily better than Street Fighter, even. And the good news, for people like me anyway, is that the director of that film is also working on Bloodrayne and Alone in the Dark. Check out the trailer for the latter if you haven't, it's hilarious...they already stuffed random techno music and bullet-time effects into it. Also, fellow B-movie fanatics, be on the lookout for Street Fighter 2. Not only will Jean-Claude come back as Guile, but he's bringing none other than He-Man himself, DOLPH F'N LUNDGREN out of retirement to play Charlie (yes, I know Charlie was Blanka in the first one...I think they're just gonna call him "Nash" and claim he's a totally different character). Unfortunately, for obvious reasons, we won't have Raul Julia on hand again to call Charlie "Carlos", but this should still be damn funny. Really, the only video-game movie I enjoy on its own terms is the first Mortal Kombat. Everything else = unintentional comedy or just plain Deep Hurting. -Josh

Heh, I do have a tendency to like oddball games. *shrug* This one is evil indeed, as is Sword Master. The blue dragon does nothing besides jump back and forth. Not too hard to beat... And as for those knights, the dagger is best vs. them because each of them is a separate enemy who dies in one hit. Thanks for the comments, Josh.

Excellent work. I found the twitching a tad annoying, but better than the jumping in the last movie. *gives thumbs-up sign* -Josh

I think this is why he uses Shade Man's weapon as much as he does here; the flame weapon makes him fly off like that. Maybe he just flies off on his own anyway, so it would make sense to get that extra bit of damage before he does so. *shrug* I'm curious to know this too. -Josh

I actually think this is the best game in the series since 3 (remember, X = totally different series), but that may just be my appreciation for them FINALLY shaking things up a bit. And yes, the Ghosts 'n Goblins music was sweetness indeed. Bisqwit: It played just fine for me at 32 kHz sound. Yes, you just reload the state while the movie's playing. If need be, you can make a savestate at the appropriate spot while the movie's playing, then stop the movie, then start it again and load the state. One who himself didn't realize this for awhile, Josh.

You cannot drop down ladders any other way besides falling off of them ASAP, which I do. And thanks for the comments. I played this one as a very young child, and didn't appreciate how weird it was at that time... -Josh

I see a no vote. Is this just because you don't like the game, or do you think something is wrong with my playing? I very well appreciate any constructive criticism. -Josh

I agree about the inaccuracies, which is why I don't think this is worth publishing yet. But, Michael, I just wanted to say that Metal Gear is very probably the most popular NES game not featured on this site yet. Viewer's experiences are highly common, and a great many would appreciate a quality video of this game. -Josh

Turns out I was wrong about level 6 being the shortest...level 7 was even faster. I improved this one by around 21 seconds, meaning I am now 2:07 faster than Evilheart. Also, I managed to beat this level while still in Bert form (yes, I used him finally). This means there was no transforming back to Mark in this level, which accounted for 3 seconds of improvement, and there will be no transforming into Bert in level 8 (if you grab a pill while Bert your "time limit" for being him resets). That's another 3 seconds of improvement in that level, right there. EDIT: Level 8 done with 11 seconds of improvement...one more boss to go. EDIT #2: Last boss improved by 2 seconds, giving me a final time of 15:24, exactly 2:20 faster than Evilheart! Submitting this baby right now... -Josh

Yeah, just the supercomputer one near the end of the game. Everything else is A-OK. Good luck, Josh.

Levels 4 and 5 are done. Level 4 was done 26 seconds faster than Evilheart, and level 5 was improved by 4 seconds (like level 1, it's so simple that there wasn't much to improve upon). So I am now 1:39 faster than him up to this point... EDIT: Level 6 done. This is the simplest and shortest level of all, yet somehow I managed to do this 6 seconds better than he did. So now it's almost 1:46 faster than his. -Josh

SlashStarDash (thanks Feitclub! =P) - Just to let you know, Nintendorecords.com is offering $100 for a Metal Gear timeattack (yes, with slowdown and the whole deal). Two caveats, though: 1. The period expires at the end of this month. So, basically, you'll have up through this weekend and that's it. 2. They ban the computer-skipping glitch (none of the others, though). So, if you plan to do this, you should make two versions of this movie: The one for Nintendorecords, and one for this site which uses the computer glitch. Oh, the man to e-mail when you're done is ziplock@nintendorecords.com. And he, too, requires that you zip your movie file. Just lettin' ya know, Josh.

To affect the speed of FCEU, hit the "dash" key to slow it down and the "equal sign" key to speed it up. Another useful feature is to display the frame count of your movie, which is toggled with Backspace. Just offering a few hints, Josh.

Um...you used an overdumped rom. That's strictly against the rules here. Just to let you know for the future, use GoodNES and its various siblings if you're not sure what specific rom you have. Also there seemed to be a lot of minor mistakes in the movie. I don't know Metal Gear very well, but you appeared to make unnecessary movements and be rather slow with the menus. You miss a couple shots as well, and the boss fights are rather suboptimal from what I can tell. Just curious, is that extremely low rerecord count accurate? If so then this is an impressive movie, but that's not what we're aiming for here. We seek to achieve perfection, and this video looks like it falls far short of that. However, I appreciate your knowledge of the game and enjoyed your glitch abuse. This movie is a solid base, improve upon it and you'll certainly end up with something worthy. -Josh

Level 3 is done, about 31-32 seconds faster than Evilheart. Total time is 6:15, 1:09 faster than him at this point. Looking at it, FCEU is actually keeping the correct time so far...hope it stays that way. EDIT: New FCM is up on my filespace. -Josh
