zbattle = teh rox. I need to get things set up on this computer, but once I do I'll definitely be up for a challenge. Do NOT piss off the Gief, that's all I'll say. =) Oh yeah, and Turbo >>>>>>>>>> Super. But I might be biased, kick lariat just rules too much in Turbo. I'll also play TMNT Tournament Fighters against anyone. Don't laugh, it's actually a pretty good game. So is GW Endless Duel, but I'll be the first to admit that my only skill in that one is whoring the Deathscythe infinite. =P -Josh

I think they changed it in order to differentiate him from the Fatal Fury/Capcom vs. SNK character Raiden. -Josh

Eh, this one has the same problem as other fighters: It's already been broken open by the fighting game community. This is even more true for this game than almost any other, as it's been one of the most popular tournament fighters in the US since its release. Honestly, people, if you really want to see neat fighting game stuff, just register at combovideos.com and look into other similar sites. -Josh

This guy is completely serious. I've been in his chat room, and to say that he's delusional about his skills would be just a BIT of an understatement. And yes, I've seen Crispy's work as well. Pretty funny too, but not as much as this IMO; at least he actually tries to rap and doesn't have a hick accent or pretend to be a vampire... And feitclub, definitely post it here if you ever finish it, I'd like to see it. -Josh

They're high priority because the CPU cheats. Seriously, if you use him in vs. matches you'll see that his limbs beat out all kinds of stuff. -Josh

Dhalsim or Zangief (Whom I consider to be the worst characters in the game)
I know you're probably not experienced, but that is wrong on so many levels. There are exactly 3 characters worth using in this game, and Sim and Gief are two of them. Guile is the likely #1, his normals are great and sonic boom is at its best ever. Sim is pretty close to Guile actually, as this is an extremely defensive game and his high-priority limbs are perfectly suited to that; it's almost impossible for anyone to get in on him, and you can't really keep him away with fireballs either because he can slide underneath them. Gief is #3 for one simple reason: If he knocks you down once, you die. This game doesn't allow you to perform "reversal" moves (Capcom didn't think of this until Champion Edition), which means that you cannot escape piledriver ticks OR prevent him from performing said ticks as you get up. He has a tough time getting in on both of the top two, though, which is why he's only #3. Actually, Ryu and Ken are the WORST characters in this game, by far. Capcom definitely made sure not to let that happen again, and have been generally successful though not always (see X-Men vs. Street Fighter). Anyway...nice movie! -Josh

Yes, there is no way in hell I would want to see the SNES one. The PC one, and Spear of Destiny, would rock. I recall Wolf3D mentioning somewhere in the credits that John Romero did a speedrun of the first episode...forget what the time was. Oh yeah, that level in Episode 2...isn't that the one with the "Aardwolf" secret or whatever it was? Also, I think if you pushed the wrong walls you got rewarded with a face full of Hans Grosse...fun. "GUTENTAG!" Hehe, still love that line after all these years. =) -Josh

Sorry Sprint, I thought you were talking about that hcf,u/f+K move he got in ST (as that is called "scissor kick" sometimes). Now it makes sense...awesome combo there, btw. I would love to see a Deejay run too, just for the sight of someone comboing every hit of the hyper fist; that apparently IS possible, but it requires ultra-precise mashing. -Josh

Umm...this is Super. Fei didn't get the scissor kick until Super Turbo. I do suggest looking into comboing from meaty attacks (that is, attacks that connect on late frames as an opponent gets up) as Fei has some nasty stuff with that. Most notably low HP into another low HP (huge dizzy possibility) and close standing HP into another close HP, cancelled into rekkas. Good Fei players use these combos in a tournament setting, so you can certainly fit them in with slowdown and rerecords. Try to find some other weird things to use with this, too. Good luck, Josh.

It didn't, it just had various optimizations over Morimoto's movie but it didn't aim for style. I think it was kept as a supplement until Genisto made his version... -Josh

Coolness! Have you looked into my idea of morphing in the middle of a combo? I don't know about console, but this is possible in the arcade version and results in some neat stuff. -Josh

OK, as I said earlier, I'm improving this. Turns out this game does have a couple useful bugs after all... Just finished level 3 now. Level 1 is 13 frames faster, level 2 87 frames faster, and level 3 69 frames better (no jokes please =P). So that 13:03 should drop to well under 13 when all's said and done. =) -Josh

Just to let you guys know, I'm taking a break from this to work on something far simpler: Improving Vice. With the magic of frame advance, I may be able to get that baby under 13 minutes after all... -Josh

See, when falling off, I always aimed to fall at the earliest possible time, even when that would result in a wider backwards arc. If you just aim to reduce that arc, and fall later, it saves time. Also, I think the teleporter thing you mentioned works, and that would help all the way back in the first Elsewhere... I dunno, I wish I could hexedit but it never gives me any luck. This game is kinda random when it comes to movements; that is, improving an area forces you to make slightly different inputs in some other areas. This was what caused my time loss in HotW1, as flying seems to be especially susceptible to this. I'm at a loss as to what to do now. The mistakes are minor time-wise, but they would stand out since I would use these techniques later on. Hmm... -Josh

AAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH Yep, turns out that jumping at cannon blocks saves you some time over just walking. And what's more, this saves 3 frames all the way back in Highwater Pass I! Can't believe I didn't figure this out before... Additionally, there's a better way of running and falling down ledges than what I was doing before, and this could save time in USM3. I think I'm going to redo all this yet again, gentlemen, as I am truly aiming for this to be as close to perfect as possible. The only part that worries me is that crazy flight in HotW2...I got lucky with that the first time, and I hope I can duplicate it... -Josh

I think Gun*Nac is actually the worst of Compile's NES shooters. Their others, Zanac and Guardian Legend, are both legitimate classics. Also look into their games for other systems (M.U.S.H.A., Space Megaforce). Look for anything by Cave (DoDonPachi, ESPGaluda, etc.) or Treasure (Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga). Gradius V is perhaps the best in the series (that or Gaiden, which is still import-only =( ), and if you have MAME, 3 is worth a look just because it's supposedly the hardest game ever (I mean, Battletoads and Bayou Billy have NOTHING on this mutha). Also on the topic of Konami, Salamander/Life Force (arcade) is the absolute best of their old-school shmups IMO. The R-Type series, of course, is generally awesome as well although there are a couple clunkers. -Josh

Yeah, I don't think this should be published. That warp really is cheating (at least the one in USM1 is skill-based), and those three levels are also in Truncated's movie and my WIP. -Josh

Thanks a lot for the effort. Actually, bumping into the tornado guy only works at a certain height, and also only seems to work when you're flying. Crystal Crags I is up. Rather annoying level, and I'm not so sure this will be the final version...I may be able to improve the beginning (land sooner), and maybe fit into that little passage while maintaining speed (without Cyclone this may be impossible, I'm not sure). -Josh

Alright, thanks for the comments, guys! I got completely lucky in HotW2...just happened to be at the right distance and right angle. Sheer trial and error is how one would figure this sort of thing out. And yes, subtitles for level names would be a definite must, especially considering that there are teleporters that take you to another part of the same level. So, Sinister Sewers is done and uploaded. It wasn't as crazy as I thought it would be, but it's still evident that it would be a lot slower without Cyclone. Hmm... *shrug* EDIT: A better version has just been uploaded, about 40 frames faster. This time I manipulate luck to bounce on a tornado guy. The path I have to use is weird, but it seems it can't be improved; the enemy has 4 specific flight patterns, and the one you see is the only one that allows me to bounce on him. -Josh

...Wow. HotW2 is AWESOME now. I won't spoil anything, check it out. The movie's up through Windy City, so any nitpicking there would be appreciated as well. It's a pretty simple level, but who knows... Thanks once again, Josh.

Yes, I tested, the samurai is a lot slower in E3. Keep in mind that he's a bit out of the way, the animation upon grabbing him takes awhile, and after using the shortcut he has to jump onto the teleporter (can't just land on it). Wait a second...in the level after Hoverboard Beach, don't you have to switch to Iron Knight at the end anyway? That would definitely make that decision easy...shortcut all the way. And as for Devil's Marsh II, there's another samurai shortcut near the end that takes you straight to the flag. So it would be faster to skip that one and grab Cyclone, than to do what nifboy did in his movie, you're saying? -Josh

...Wow. *smacks self in forehead* Thanks a ton for that, I figured something had to be up with that level as ugly as it looked. The beginning is weird, but the fastest thing I found. And I tested a lot...that was actually where I improved over the previous movie. And I think I mentioned this one earlier...getting the samurai in E3 wastes a TON of time, easily more than that hit in Windy City saves. Keeping Cyclone until CC1 is the plan, it seems... I tried air jumping too, it just won't work as you'll hit your head on the ceiling too soon no matter what. =/ Looking a bit ahead, would samurai or maniaxe be better against the boss? I really really want to fit maniaxe into the run somewhere, and it seems that this could be the place. You say there's a Berserker helmet in the Elsewhere after that level, so that won't be an issue... -Josh
