Actually that is pretty much the run I want to see. This run is screwed up to the point that beyond the surprise it's hard for me to see how it could be made entertaining regardless. I'm not making the run, though, so it hardly matters one way or another what I think about it.

It really is. I'm amazed at how much progress is being made in this game after so many speedrunning and TASing attempts, and especially at how perfect and optimal all of you are making the game. Maybe there will never be a truly "perfect" TAS of Super Metroid, but if there ever is I have no doubt it will be one or all of you who make it.

They actually explain the bank thing, though, though it still doesn't really make sense. For some reason the bank stamps his current balance on his hand.

That Google video was what made me get the proper video codecs for my new computer. It's so blurry that it's nearly impossible to make out the run. Which is itself absolutely brilliant; I had no idea how you were going to manage the Goron's Lullaby Skip, but somehow you did. Truly one for the annals of TAS history.

This run is awesome! Admittedly it was a bit short and not as entertaining as the 120-star runs, but with one star it's hard to see how it could be done better! Yes vote most definitely.

Fantastic run. There were so many crazy new tricks that I could barely keep up with them all. Hopefully some of these will be incorporated into the normal run as well!

Finally watched this. While I can see where people are coming from, enough movies are doing the same thing enough of the time that it's still a fantastic watch. The sheer effort that went into this is absolutely incredible.

Are people really voting "meh" and "no" on this? This has been my most anticipated TAS pretty much forever; if it's anything like what we've already seen, I can't understand the complaints.

Wow, this run is really great. Despite Rikku's crazy optimized runs, it's the first that makes me really feel that Mario's normal movement (not just the glitches) was truly superhuman. Especially liked: creative lag avoidance (as well as stellar camera work in general), Bowser fights + levels (especially #3), the new LLL and HMC strategies, and overall the high level of precision and entertainment that I really love about SM64. Recommendation: star.

What? No they haven't, I was able to pull it off the other day, so unless they changed something within the last week it's quite doable. Edit: That said, it's obviously a glitch. There's no way it was intended for Mario to be able to clip through walls, get to Bowser early, etc.

The problem with AVIs is that they can't be verified. Because of the way TASVideos is designed, the input file IS the movie and cannot be doubted, since the only real requirement is that it complete the movie by any means possible. But, as strange as the concept of "cheating" in a TAS seems, an AVI could be created that used cheat codes, claiming to implement a novel glitch, in a way that was unverifiable by more than a small segment of the viewing population. By providing the AVI beforehand, you also put a heavy load on the TASVideos servers for movies that aren't necessarily worth it. (The game size "argument" is a nonargument, of course, because TASVideos does not support piracy!)

Unassisted. I have no idea whether the WIP does, though I suspect it doesn't. The WIP definitely works on 1.4.3, whatever the input-display corrected version is that I got to see JXQ's run.

Works for me in Snes9x 1.5.1, which I got specifically to view the run, which I won't comment on because I still haven't actually beat the game! Your WIP, however, is incredible. Keep it up!

Why is this even being argued about? As far as I can tell anyone can submit a TAS, and the discussion seems to be focusing on whether the hypothetical possibly perfect TAS that Phil hasn't made that won't bear Hero's name that nobody could possibly have watched that might or might not be measurably more entertaining than the existing possibly perfect TAS of a rather boring game whose claim to fame is its age and the ease of TASing it... should be accepted or not? Not only is THIS movie not really being discussed, a movie that doesn't EXIST is being discussed. Why not hold the discourse for later, if and when Phil submits his version (rhetorical)? Why state unequivocably that you will vote a certain way on his movie when you don't even know what it looks like (rhetorical)? *Exits.*

Yes vote! Take THAT, perfectionists! Though honestly the only reason it's entertaining is because of the shortness of the game and the unexpectedness of there actually being a glitch like that in such a simple game.

Yes vote, but only for publication as a concept demo a la F-Zero. I would much prefer a run with more variety, though; I understand the importance of fast times in racing games, but I think shortcuts like these can take all the fun out of watching. And yes, the run did seem a bit sloppy, but given how hard it apparently is to optimize and the fact that the 100% run is still far from completion, I think this run should be accepted.

I am BREATHLESS with excitement! Even though I know you're not quite done the knowledge that it is so tantalizingly close is more than enough. Please release a sample AVI, as I can't get background input to work on my FCEU copies for some reason (probably I just missed an option or something)!

I was holding off on voting on this, since I wasn't sure whether you were going to cancel it and test the potential improvements. Nonetheless, this remains my favorite run on the site, and the new glitched routes are awesome! Yes+star. Edit: By the way, does this mean you're officially TASing again?

I voted yes. While I don't particularly like the game (a linear Metroid game? Ugh), the TAS is so well-done that it's still an entertaining run.

Okay, I looked at Kejardon's explanation. It makes sense that you can't get into Lower Norfair without the Gravity Suit, which is what I was confused about. I agree that horziontal bombjumping across all those spikes would be pretty much impossible.
