I think we have three Battletoads runs and Contra is a rather popular title.

And hell, it makes for a more interesting finale than just seeing him throw another two shuriken.

But on the other hand, the game is really bad and pointless. as soon as you finish it it starts over again?.. terrible. Of course, so you can keep increasing your score.

The SNES version includes more levels but I doubt that'd be beneficial to the run.

This is quite an improvement but you're still not kicking a lot :p.

Doesn't the jumpkick have higher horizontal speed than normal walking? Seems like that to me. As long as your kicks land on enemies or candles it should be faster to move that way (especially since you can do a new kick after kicking something). Or am I missing something?

Are you sure you can't avoid those things? Sandstorm sounds like you're supposed to dig in.

I still don't see the point of running ahead of the turtle in 2-2 and waiting for it to catch up again.

The Gunstar Heroes run uses normal difficulty because it says hard doesn't change anything except prolonging the boss fights. If you can show how hard difficulty makes your run different from the normal run (e.g. are there any route changes required? Do enemies have attacks that are harder to dodge? etc) it may stand a chance of being accepted but if it uses exactly the same route and techniques as the currently accepted run while taking longer on the bosses (generally less entertaining) and adding SRAM it'll be rejected. If it doesn't get cathegorically rejected because of using SRAM.

Doesn't pushing up work?

Is the time the text takes for appearing constant or could shorter names reduce text times? Especially pokemon names, which would be printed a few thousand times over the course of a run would save a few frames that way, provided the text entry dialog doesn't eat too much time.

I don't see a big difference in the entertainment value of these movies, therefore time should matter. If something truly amazing was in the previous movie and the successor lacks any form of entertainment a vote based on entertainment over speed can be considered but we're talking about two runs that look completely identical to the layman. In this case speed should matter.

Wouldn't it be more effective to get the formula for the random generator and calculate the optimal solution?

What are the orb messages good for? Just showing off?

I also found out that the "crouch at circular warps" trick to teleport cyclicly through them only works after you pick up the hint card telling you about it. Strange, on the GBA I'm sure I did that teleporting before I got the hint card.

FractalFusion: I'm using improvement9. It selects all options on the movie playback dialog when I select the movie. Should I trust the autodetect on this? (Tenguman is pretty far in, I don't want to do this with trial and error)

I suppose hacking the game apart and delivering mathematical proof that a movie is the fastest possible solution is the only way to satisfy the complainers. At the time of submission the submitter obviously expects his run to be the fastest possible solution and the day after someone else manages to think up a way to improve it, even in a separate thread you'd never know when a solution is perfect.

What I didn't like about the flying level was the damage you took, that looked really sloppy.

Hm, renaming did nothing. After the first boss dies and the ball is shot into the field from the left hole it goes past the flippers and falls through the bottom. The flippers go up one frame too late, maybe there was lag involved somehow.

Still desyncs after the first boss for me even with that cfg and a correct checksum.

I don't think you do more than minimum damage even at level 13.

and damage amount was almost equivalent to a normal attack. If you mean the Gradius shield, that does 50% more damage than the whip.

5 out of the 8 swords are required to beat the game. The critical sword is not required but I grab it anyway because it's an extremely small detour and it ends up saving more time than it costs. What is the Lucky Blade required for?
