http://rapidshare.de/files/17302107/WarioV2.vbm.html Hm. Golly gee. It seems that this is three whole seconds slower because I included JUMPING! Gasp and shock! I sat and tested jumping vs dashing in maaaany many spots in 1-1. And you know what I found out? Dashing is always, always, ALWAYS faster. By at LEAST 20 damn frames. Meaning air dashing through the stage is going to be faster as a whole than jumping through it. Mostly because of two important factors. 1) Wario has CRAP for horizontal movement and 2) There's a delay when you land. But you know what? I quit. I give up. I've done this damn thing numerous times and people keep bitching. So fuck ALL of you. Do it your own god damn selves. Make it as ugly as you fucking want. Go jump through every stinking level of the game. I don't give two shits anymore. Perhaps if Bag would shut his fat fucking mouth every once in awhile and didn't irritate the shit outta me, I would've continued. So go make your fucking movie of it on your own. I'm out. Now I remember why I left in the first place. Bag.

*whistles* Ouch, there's a lot of unneeded damage taken. What speed are you playing the game at? 100%? Where are all those rerecords going? To the text scrolling? X.x

And your movie still doesn't work. So I have no idea why you keep posting shit when it's obvious I can't VIEW it. I'm not downloading a different version of VBA for it.

It won't be the first time I've said I only attempt to do this just so someone can come along and do a PROPER run of it. That's what I did for Ninja Five-O and look at how nice the proper run of IT is. Same difference here. *shrug* Things'll never get done if people don't have a time to beat, apparently.

As I'm too lazy to run tests, I have no idea.

I can and I jolly well will. If someone wants to do an ugly-ass run that's boring but faster, they can be my damn guest.

Plus there's aesthetics to take into account. I have actually tried jumping constantly. And while it might TECHNICALLY be faster, seeing Wario just air dash like a retard across the top of the entire stage looks more interesting. At least to me, anyway. I'd sacrifice a few seconds to make the thing more pleasing to the eye, ya know? Ugh... can't believe I actually started. I need to run some tests in 1-2. See where I can get bull/jet hats (is the first jet hat in 1-3? >< My brain ain't workin') the fastest. See, I'm troubled on this one. Bull Hat: Longer air dashes, faster dashing in general, 1-hit block breaking, jumping mid-dash. Trouble is, you can't break the dash then resume dashing lower in the air. You HAVE to keep that thing going. Jet Hat: Probably faster for uninterrupted travel. BUT, you can't leap out of flight. Meaning if you start flying, you have to land and jump eventually, unless you stay so far above the screen that it doesn't matter. But again, that's boring to watch. Plus it takes two hits to break blocks. I think the fastest thing to do in most cases is to stick with Bull Wario. He's faster on the ground and more versatile. Of course, I'd probably pick up Jet for any underwater crap I have to do (HATE UNDERWATER STAGES)...

http://rapidshare.de/files/17076855/WarioLandv1.vbm.html Well, it's begun. Finally. Took me long enough. 1-1 beaten, time of 1:16. The first video is 1:11, but it ends as soon as I hit Up at the end of the stage. This one includes the running around the bonus stage poles at the end, so I definitely picked up some time. Not a lot of rerecords yet, since basically the only thing I had need to rerecord for was keeping the air dash going.

Presicion is probably the release group in this case. A good number of roms often have release group names in them.

Wow, the movie seemed to crash VBA. That was odd. Right around the first minigame in the mad professor's level. X.x ...Anyway, it was alright, but I thought certain things could be done better. I know the minigames have set time limits, but you should still do certain stuff as soon as possible. Like catching the Wario Record at the very tip top of it and such. I do think that the sequel would be much more interesting to TAS, just for the fact that the twist patch is a bit sketchy and makes for some fairly tough games, even slowed down a bit. >_> That or I just sucked at them all. Voting meh. It wasn't great, it didn't bore me to tears, either.

Naruto RPG 2 works pretty well in the newest IdeaS. Touch screen support's still being worked on, and the sound wasn't there, but it was playable. People have been saying they've gotten the (E) rom of AW:DS working, amongst other things. Since Dawn requires touch screen support to a fair extent, it'll probably be one of the last games to work properly. Wario Ware will NEVER be fully supported, and I doubt Resident Evil will be either. At least not Jill's half. Microphone support and all. At present, DS rom count is 383.

Best way to do it would be to load up on boss-spewed coins. That way I wouldn't have to stop and grab them in regular levels. I'll try to end up with no coins if I do it that way, but no promises. I knew about the jet thing. Makes me wonder if infinite air dashing or infinite jet flight is faster. I'd assume the get is, but it's less useful in every other aspect, almost. c.c

Yeah, I'm bored again. And after the insanity of Alien Hominid, I decided I'd think about tackling a game I actually knew fairly well. I owned the cart when I was younger, and I still remember enough to get me by. But I need to play through a few times and make sure I know treasure locations before I get started. First thing's first, if anyone has any glitches or anything, let it be known now, BEFORE I start the TAS. I don't want this to turn out like SML2 did - finding glitches when I was almost done. Next, I'll be running some tests for myself to see what's fastest, but if anyone has input on which hats would work best for which stages, feel free to throw your opinions out there. I'm not sure how long I'll work on the run a day - Wario Land 1 has this weird effect on my eyes. Makes me feel sick if I play too long. I dunno if it's because of the trail Wario leaves behind as he dashes or what. Hopefully, it won't be an issue when slowed down to the speeds I plan on running the game at. In any case, I'll be working off and on with the game for awhile. I do have a question, though - should I just go for a straight-up ass-hauling through the game, or should I get all the treasures? Edit: Just screwing around with the game, I found something out - if you hit the dash button again at the right time after starting a dash that puts you into the air (like, you dash off a ledge or something) you can continue the dash infinitely by dashing again right before the first one finishes. http://rapidshare.de/files/16241159/Wario1.vbm.html Here, check it out. This isn't a WIP by any means. Just me seeing how the game felt at 5% speed. As you can see, I didn't realize the trick until about halfway into the stage. And it looks pretty hax with me dashing infinitely in the air. I haven't picked up the Bull Wario helmet to see if it's any different with that, but I don't see why it would be. I dunno how useful this'll be in a real TAS, but the way I see it, it can't HURT. Wario moves like a turd in glue, and his jumps are more vertical than horizontal. So this definitely helps skip all the jumping in certain stages. What I REALLY want to try now is to see if I can put this to any good use in the lava/thwomp stage in world 1. You know the one - Wario's stuck riding a thwomp across a lava sea, then he has to run through tight corridors, breaking blocks so as not to get skewered from behind. I dunno how useful the air dash will be, but...

You didn't use the charge move or the grenades
Charge move took too long for not a lot of damage. It's fine for plowing through regular enemies, but... it's quicker to just mash the fire button if you're on a boss or something. And yeah, there seems to be a lack of death. If that was true, I could probably restart and just spam death, because it refills your grenades. But that wouldn't look stylish at all, and as I said - the game lends itself to more of a stylish run than a for-speed run. c.c Also
Because he hates me personally
Awwww, you know i wubses yo--*shot* ... *repeatedly* Edit: Just went back to mess around in 1-1 again. This time I clocked almost 30 seconds more than the first one. Mainly because I was playing around. But I did get something useful. Seems the green weapon, whatever it is - seems to be biological death - doesn't hurt the robots for CRAP. All the extra time I picked up were on the robots because I could just NOT get decent enemy drops. The enemies always come from the direction you AREN'T facing and weapon drops seem to be semi-random. I tested things on the docks for like 20 minutes. The only drops I ever got were the green ones, which sucks. I only got a green powerup during the final boss fight, when he smashed the building. Ach. I'm-a go read a FAQ or something, see if anything useful can be learned.

Because I got sick of the idiocy. (OMGZ NO ONE DO SMB2 RUNS THE WORLD WILL SURELY IMPLOOOOODE) And I'm canning this project. The game forces you to take way too many deaths. ._. Unless I'm just not seeing it, you're forced to die ALL the time. This is especially noticable in the roswell/area 51 stage(s?). Between the buzzards you can't avoid and the sandstorms you ALSO can't avoid, combined with the awful hit detection on those scorpions... just... no. Just no. I'm not playing for an hour+ per level for that. My hands/arms aren't gonna take the punishment. Someone else can take over.

Yeah, I'm supposed to not be here anymore. Blah. Anyway, the urge has hit me again. And, after staring at a number of games in my attempt to find one I wouldn't go crazy playing, I decided on this. Think Metal Slug crossbred with Zim. Or Stitch. The gameplay's basically identical to MS - you have your default peashooter and various powerups, in addition to a knife thing you can slash enemies with up close. You also have grenades of varying types. I just now found the game, so I'm not even to the planning stage of the thing yet. The good news is that it lets you select hard mode right from the start, which is good. An easy mode run would be faster, though. It seems you have infinite lives there. >> And every time you 'die,' your grenade supply is replenished. Alien dudeman has a roll akin to Link's and can hide underground and drag enemies down to their doom. Plus there are weird boss stages and UFO stages. So yeah. Interesting game. Thoughts, comments, etc, yaddayadda? Edit: Urg. An hour and twenty minutes in level 1-1 on hard mode at 5% speed. For 2:41 of insane action. Was it worth it? Totally. http://rapidshare.de/files/15690138/Alienv1.vbm.html There it is, if anyone wants to see it. The rom name is 2310 - Alien Hominid (E)(Trashman). And yeah, it's still a v1. The fight with the miniboss, for instance, coulda been done quicker. Hiding in the ground is MUCH better than jumping. Plus it seems that when you start the digging animation, you're invincible. Which is useful. c.c I kill some enemies that don't REALLY need to be killed... but I think this game will be more stylistic than 'fast as possible,' anyway. And I'm sure someone will come along and royally trounce any time I might get for the game, but meh. It's fun. >>

And I also don't agree with the notion that *who* submitted a movie should be taken into consideration when determining whether to publish a movie or not - judge the movie on its own merit, not on who did it.
I'm co-signing on this statement. Seems every time an SMB2 run gets submitted, half the community has a whiny little hissy fit. I thought perfection was the point. If you aren't going to accept all submissions, don't accept ANY. Or how about you just BAN certain games from being run because you're too bitchy to accept improvements, no matter how big or small they may be.
I just don't like to welcome the atmosphere where your hard work of making a entertaining 10-minute movie will be forgotten because someone else made a movie that's 0.3 seconds faster than yours.
Well, then ban the games or just delete new submissions. That's the way the world works, chief, whether you like it or not. Popular games are going to be run, improvements are going to be made. It's been awhile, so I don't recall who said it - but wasn't there a discussion on the quality of the runs on the site going downhill since it opened? That people just don't seem to TRY hard as they could? Well shit, if people get targetted like this, who can blame them? If you try and squeeze tiny improvements here and there, you're gonna get blasted by half the community for trying to... I dunno, "dethrone" someone else. Elitist pricks. "We'll accept small improvements, but only by people who've been around awhile!" or "Despite this being faster, we've got to see what the guy who made the last version says!" Bullshit. Judge the movie on it's own and stop playing favorites. This kinda shit's why I left. The people at the core of the TAS community are the same and will always BE the same because the general attitude of the place tends to drive away people NEW to it. So get your head outta your ass, Bis. Else you're going to drive everyone new away. Voting yes. -.-
