There's a weird cutscene if you do it in Spring anyway but you're right in that it is slightly faster... I just forgot how long it was exactly, been a while since I tried the glitch myself since it's tricky to pull off and pretty useless in console runs.

wouldn't it have been faster to open the beaver's house in spring using eggs? then you wouldn't need to watch that cut scene.
He still needs the two notes and mumbo token from behind the boulder in Summer. Finally got around to watching thanks to the encode; looks great. Final battle was very fun to watch. I did have a few questions regarding the final segment, though... - at the end, before you went up to Gruntilda you opened three unnecessary note doors and filled the honeycomb portrait. I'm no sure if this was the definition of 100% you set at the beginning of the run but in the past I've looked at 100% of BK as just getting all items which are kept track of by the view totals screen and beating Grunty. - In the Grunty fight itself during the Jinjo phase, at the end if you're standing under Grunty and you jump the Jinjos will hit her faster without having to do all of their 'loops'. You seemed a little preoccupied with picking up all the honey. :P That's all I noticed as far as I remember, but even then it's being a bit picky. Overall it was great and very entertaining watching this run over the last year. Grats. :)

The WIP is hilarious. How does the beak-bust-through the floor thing work? How did you go through the glass window like that?! Anywho, I'm amazed at the progress so far. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Window trick's been around for a few years now and it's just a weird seamline that you can push yourself through. The same can be done with Freezeezy Peak's snowman allowing you to get inside it for a second or two but it isn't as useful. The beak buster in BK has a small amount of upward movement which allows you to use it as a sort of jump and Sami's used this at a few points in the run already (MM, TTC). Clipping issues on the N64 are quite common so it's easy to pass through thin objects with a move like this if it hasn't been tested whereas the Xbox Live Arcade version has fixed this.

^ Yeah, after getting the 10th jiggy when it's a Jinjo jiggy you have to pause a bit. But if you collect a jiggy underwater you won't do jiggy jig regardless of how fast you surface.

Thanks for the vid, bkDJ. :) Yeah, I can confirm that beak buster invulnerability from the top of that smokestack is slower so no worries there. I noticed the other room where you estimated 10 frames could be saved but apart from that and the pink jinjo trick at the end, I couldn't really see anything needing improvement. The new fan timesaver sounds nice though.

^ I was thinking about suggesting beak buster invulnerability before but I haven't seen the WIP yet so I'm still unsure whether Sami is making up a lot of ground horizontally or what. The beak buster invulnerability makes you fall straight down more or less and while I use it from the smokestacks in my runs on console, I'm not exactly sure what should be used here (at least, not until I see the run). I know it's definitely better in Click Clock Wood at the top of the tree and is good in Mad Monster Mansion's church on console, but this area is debatable. Edit: He has abused it in the past, for example in MMM against the Tee Hee ghosts, but not as a falling aid.

Very nice WIP. One possible improvement, however: it is possible to do a beak buster through the grating above the fifth Jinjo, similar to the trick used to get up to the crane with the Shock Spring Pad. This may be faster as it allows instant access to the notes above without swimming out and using the crate.
I wasn't sure what you were talking about, but now I know. I haven't tried this myself but in theory it should work and save at least a few seconds. It doesn't require *too* much of the run to be redone if it does work, either.

Finally watched FP, all thanks to Airman. As you said, quality was a little off, but it didn't detract from Sami's awesomeness. :P Few things... - At the start of the WIP when you beak bust the coffin, I was once able to fluke a beak bust which went through the lid and hit the switch all in one go. Although I don't think this is something to go back for, it's only minor. Maybe something for future runs. - The beak bomb. Yeah, you already told me about this one, but I forgot while watching and it made it all the more awesome when I saw it happen after you left FP. I was wondering how you'd do in RBB with one piece of health, then I saw you go through the door with zero health and I remembered. It makes me wonder, though; since I believe you talked about it only working on certain frames some of the time. Doesn't seem like something you'd be able to pull off on the 64, let alone reliably. - the jump you talked about before entering RBB (the one from the bollard up to the crate with the water switch) - nice. Certainly something I'll try out next time. - you swam through the water to the RBB picture. So I'm just asking; Marsh seemed fairly confident back when he did his run that feathery flapping over water was faster than regular swimming. Have you falsified this claim now? How many frames faster does swimming get you? Everything else was pretty much the standard I'd expect from you after the previous levels. My favourite level run is still TTC with GV close behind, although I'm curious as to whether that will change after you finish the next two levels now.

Hmm... I don't believe the level clock counts during those cutaways to Grunty's lair, so it would be a few seconds to jump to the island and stomp the switch, then another couple to get back into talon trot mode and jump off again. Would it be 8 seconds worth? I don't know about that...

It should work, unless the game's coding has been meddled with. Just have to hit in the right spot really. :/

Yeah - music/sound, picture, grunty(most annoying thing to happen if you're doing a console run lol), or general knowledge. They're just like joker squares, except with a chance of death and nothing particularly special when you clear them. :P

Can't wait... Hoping to download these into a format that I don't need to sit through 50 minutes of already seen footage to watch... will have a go with bkDJ's links tomorrow.

Really eager to see this segment; it's the only level in the game I need to get a route sorted out for, Marshmallow's could be improved quite a bit. A video of the XBLA version of this game was leaked today, so I'm pretty eager to get back into running this game again - if only I had routes for later levels. Once Freezeezy Peak is done, I reckon the rest of the game should be fairly easy to plan, at least. Execution may take a while, but I think once you've finished this level everything afterwards should go a bit more smoothly. Good luck!

Fair enough. I have a video of a possible route for Rusty Bucket Bay up on Youtube, involving the toll skip, boom box trick and window glitch. Not sure if it was anything like you had in mind, but I'll post it here anyway just in case. I make some pretty bad mistakes leading to about a minute of lost time, but it was my first time trying out the new route I guess. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaOY9isLdC0

Been a couple of weeks... how's Freezeezy Peak treating you, Sami? Thought I'd ask seeing as a) I'm discussing doing a new on-console run with some adapted routes over at speeddemosarchive and this is my worst level at the moment... and b) since I just need to know when I'll see another kickass level run from you. :P Have an estimate on the amount of time you'll take in there yet?

Just tested a cool trick; although you can't use it until you get to Rusty Bucket Bay. Basically, in the engine room there's a glass window on the left. If you go up to the window you can look through to see the room with the switch which slows down the fans in the engine room. Here's the catch. On the left side of the window, on the seam between the wall and the glass, is a gap between the polygons. Running up against this in the right way will allow Banjo to pass right through from the engine room, sparing half a minute or more. It's a one way thing; so you can't go back the other way, but it's not like you'd want to anyway, especially not in a TAS where you don't even have to press the switch theoretically. (hopefully this hasn't already been brought up, lol)

Lol, finally got mupen working. I downloaded an avi file earlier today which I presumed to be the actual video, lol, so for 15 minutes I was trying to guess what you were doing by listening to the sounds... hehe. Glad that's over. The MMM route looked really nice. Just have to ask; for Motzand, are the keys actually set in stone, or are they randomised when you enter the room/talk to him or something? Myself and a few others at the SDA were thinking of making a new run... but it's pretty hard to do much while the TAS is still incomplete. I mean, the TAS has been great for planning new routes so far, but there's no real point in planning anything for later levels yet since any route planning that we do for them is going to become pointless once Sami's finished those levels, lol. Wish you the best in FP, though. :D

Ah, nice. :) Dylan (Pyro, whatever you want to call him lol) has been having a little bit of trouble saving the run into an mpeg file at the moment; twice now it's crashed just before being saved to the harddrive. I'll post a link up when he gets it working and uploads it to youtube, though. Great work getting it done so fast; wasn't expecting that. Of course, now you've got to plan for Freezeezy Peak I guess. Good luck with that. I'll be looking forward to seeing some nice flying abuse again there. Oh, and this may have already been said or you might know already, but you can beak bomb into the door above the Freezeezy Peak entrance without hitting the witch switch and collect the jiggy.

Are you going to bother going inside the bonus room for feathers or just pick some up in the maze or something? There are a few around the well that you could pick up with the pumpkin as well. Oh, and the ones on the organ pipes; but it really depends on how much you think you'll need in FP I guess. Also: Part 6 of the run is up on YT, we may get them uploaded to a downloads site soon as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieR6naKcT2U

Hey guys, this is Kowbrainz or Kowz from spiralmountain.co.uk... I believe I already know Tompa and perhaps some others from some other sites around the web, but anyway... After asking Sami nicely I (we) managed to upload some of the run up to youtube to spread the word of this awesome feat. We've already received several nice comments as well as as one person asking if they can make a video tribute to the awesome tricks you guys have found and Sami's sweet routes. Unfortunately our sound recording wasn't working during the video capture, but I don't think it detracted too much from the awesomeness of the run thus far. Mupen isn't working for me on this computer right now, so I'll have to wait for a friend of mine to send me a video file of the most recent advancements in the run. I'm sure I won't be let down. :P Cheers again; hopefully the publicity attracts a little bit more moral support at the very least. If anyone isn't able to view the run in its mupen form or anything like that, then links are below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHDdp5__kuc - Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eyz-tecsNA - Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=151CSe2U5K0 - Part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZiXfweOSfY - Part 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loXiptwWeqo - Part 5 Thanks again, Kowz.
