Most people don't get BA and RBA before trying it out themselves or being corrected in their false assumptions several times. So I'm not sure if subtitles would suffice to explain what's going on behind the scenes. Maybe a tutorial video with lots of visualizations would, but I doubt anybody will care to make one.

Besides, you can't equip beans as an adult. xD I'm pretty sure RBA and BA are used to their maximal potential currently. If you want to do some research, you can try figuring out what RBAing with an empty C-Right button does. :p It modifies a memory address that nobody seems to know what it's used for.

You can't bottle light arrows. You can only glitch a bottle to where the light arrows are in your inventory. Same goes for the hammer. RBA by catching a fish with bottle B, having the beans on C-Right and you'll get a bottled fish to where the light arrows are supposed to be in your inventory. Empty the bottle B and you get an empty bottle there. It's pointless. You'd have to catch light arrows in a bottle to RBA light arrows into your inventory. (Yes, this is me rewording my post above)

To RBA light arrows you'd have to catch light arrows in a bottle. That isn't possible. You can only RBA a bottle (filled or empty) to where the light arrows are supposed to be in your inventory, and that's pointless. You can glitch them onto your B button (using BA, not RBA), but not into your inventory.

@AndreCorbin: Yes, more medals than just Spirit and Shadow are glitched. But the other ones are just useless byproducts of glitching these two into your inventory. Also, there is no way of getting all medallions using RBA anyway, as RBAing any medallion will irreversibly delete the light medallion from your inventory. (And you can't use RBA prior to getting it)

What the hell. o_O This is made of pure epic win. BitFS always used to be the most boring part of the run for me.

The thing you have in mind (editing input displayed on a keyroll on the fly) isn't really feasible for TASes because there is no way to instantly jump to say 5:38 in the movie, except by loading a save state. But there can't be a save state if you've changed input in the beginning of the movie. Emulation just isn't fast enough to make it feasible.

If this doesn't get published, we'll have to go through all this drama again the next time a similar run comes up. xD

You trick the B button into thinking it's a C-Button and then you trick the bottle into putting the fish not into the items subscreen, but to where your amulets, songs and quivers are. There, the fish magically turns into game breaking stuff.

I voted yes. But there's one thing I've found 10 times as entertaining as the actual run. And that's this little discussion here. xD I've known about all of these glitches before. I know MrGrunz could make this more entertaining and faster even if it was seemingly perfectly optimized. But I also know he has to finish another run first. And I'm not sure if he'll find the motivation to do a TAS of this game afterwards. He's really pushing himself a lot and investing loads of time, I'm amazed he hasn't given up on his MM run yet. (Restarted twice so far? TASed all the temples in advance. Insane level of precision, almost as if he was in a constant framewar with himself. Etc.) About the OoT big three, I'm not sure if they are as motivated as they used to be to do this run.. I don't expect to see an improvement to this for a while. ^^ As for the language, I don't care much about the J version being used. I skip the cutscenes anyway, as they always annoy the hell out of me in this game. Theoretically, the J-version would be cooler then because the movie's file size would be lower with practically the same content. ;p But I really don't care. This run is far from being optimized well. Since I've already known about all of the tricks, only ultra-optimization could have added some entertainment value for me. So, I'm definitely looking forward to a run like that. About the obsoletion thing.. Let's look at it somewhat like this: If this run had been submitted like a year (or more) ago out of nowhere, it would have certainly met the standards of this site. (Because nobody could have told it was improvable by that much.) Guanobowl's run has been published for a much longer timespan than that... This run.. might not be the best.. *looks awfully concerned* And it certainly will never replace Guanobowl's run in my heart. *speaks with a shaky voice* As one of the greatest runs ever.. I'm sure many of you.. *exhales* Feel the same. But!.. I think it's finally time to be strong... and let it go. Just let it rest in peace! *sniff* Farewell, Guanobowl's run! We'll certainly miss you! *bursts into tears*

I wonder if it's really politically correct to prefer US-versions of Super Mario and Zelda where hardly anybody watching these runs will even read a single line of text. Is it about nostalgia?

There's a bug with emulating the game Saint Sword. If you want to select the game's hard mode, you have to go to the options screen, there select it and then the game will automatically reset. However, after reset, Gens doesn't remember that hard mode has been selected anymore. So it's in fact impossible to access the game's hard mode with Gens without using any additional tools. Kega Fusion doesn't have this problem.

Mine isn't. I recommend buying the "second-cheapest" ones instead, just to be safe. Also, watch out for stuff that isn't in the specs. How robust is its DVD drive? How hot does the laptop get and where does it get hot? How durable is its laptop battery? I'd definitely go for Windows7, so it'll be longer till the next time you'd have to change OSes.

I was very impressed with the level of precission present in the run, but I guess the really fun part has just started. ^^ The first cycle isn't really as action packed as the rest of the game, unfortunately.

In fact, the game's RNG determines how many enemies will have to be killed in level 2 until it rewards you the key. Most of the time, it will be after the 6th enemy. In the best case, it's already after the 1st! I have already found the RNG-current-number's location in memory and figured out how the RNG works. I'm able to predict the next number it'll generate 100% of the time. Except, there are things that cause the RNG not to advance to the next number. Now, I'll still have to figure out what exactly these things are. ^o^ The RNG doesn't advance to the next number while the game is paused or while transforming. The RNG lags behind on several occasions, but will then advance by 2 steps on the next frame. That means the RNG is almost fully determined by the current frame number. These lag frames could probably be abused to make the game take the random number of the previous frame though. ^^ Edit: Manipulating luck by abusing RNG lag frames is impossible, sadly. The only way to manipulate luck is by dropping frames. Edit: Rough route planning in progress... Level 1: Get 2 wings, use 1, get a score of 3000 Level 2: Get 1 wing, use 1 Level 3: Get 1/2 wings, use 1, get a score of 6000? (rather 1 wing) Level 4: Get 1/2 wings, use mirror, get a score of 6000 Level 5: Nothing used/got Level 6: Use wing Level 7: Use fish Level 8: Nothing used/got Level 9: Use wing Level 10: Use wing Level 11: Nothing used/got Edit: Finally figured out the algorithm for calculating the number of enemies that have to be killed in the next level until you get the key. Was a huge pain to do. >_>

Hey there. I somehow felt inspired to make a HUD for this game today (J version). Some things were kind of tricky to figure out, but I think I've been doing a pretty good job so far. (It's not done yet, but there's no telling if I'll ever feel like finishing the job, so...) It displays the level number, boss health, playerx, playery, camerax, cameray and clearly displays each level's mission(ary?) goals that this game otherwise likes to keep hidden from its players. (sometimes it prematurely rewards you of the key though, haven't figured out why yet) The HP of the minor enemies are displayed below them, in case you forget how often you've already hit a certain gremlin or whatever.. Next to their HP, I display in brackets the item that the respective enemy will drop after its defeat (except for keys). This only works correctly in the first level right now, as it's really kind of tricky to do. Also, should an enemy decide to disappear while off screen, its outrageous deed will be immediately reported by my high-tech radar tracking system. >_> I've also implemented an infinite health cheat that won't freeze out the score screen and provided our (yes, our) hero with an unlimited supply of magic transformation items. Yay... Edit: An updated version of the script can be found in a later post.

Sorry guys, I think I might only find this funny because I'm really tired right now. =( (it's a kind of cheese, similar to brie in consistency) @sgrunt below: No, but "Flurret" reminded me of this delicious treat.

And as long as somebody else has a WIP that is significantly ahead, any finished run won't get the bounty paid out?

I say keep the rating system and the votes seperate. Else, I'd just give very low ratings to the movies that I don't want to win an award, and thus my votes would count more than those of the users who rate them honestly. If many users followed my bad example, the overall rating of good moves would decrease, and TASVideos would descend into chaos! >.>

The point is that the item count (of an item that is in the game only at finite amounts) in the menu could still be legally increased after the run is finished. This may just go against my definition of a 100% run. But in the case of OoT I highly doubt anybody would enjoy seeing the same skulltula collected a hundred times more than watching carefully planned routes and insane tricks being executed to really gather all of them. Opening all doors or planting all beans aren't really essential parts of the game.

Because it doesn't give you 100%, as the flags for the 100 individual skulltulas having been collected never get set. If I can pick up your supposed 100% save after you've beaten the game and still can collect 99 skulltulas without using glitches, how is that 100%? There are still 99 legally collectible skulltulas left.

frame_advance is an irritating name though because I highly doubt that if it's called twice during the same frame by two different lua scripts that it'll really advance two frames. I would have probably gone for lua_finished(this) (which would then call frame_advance only once all of them are finished) or something similar, though I must say I'm not really an expert at this. Also, while(running), but that's just because I've learned using while(true) loops was regarded as bad style. :p

For some reason it seems this hasn't already been posted here? It's a real classic though! Featuring some really catchy songs. It's the Georgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show! Ep1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YQmkDDCyXQ Ep2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSdjJjWOoVQ Here's even more videos, but unfortunately they are so good that they got banned in my country. =( Hope you can watch them anyway! On a completely unrelated note, who agrees that this is one of the cutest music videos ever? Kawaii! ^o^ This one's also pretty high in the ranks. >.> If you want to REALLY annoy your friends, just pretend you're seriously listening to this stuff. ^^ (of course it'll be even more effective if it's not just pretending)

Anyone care to (somewhen) make a freerunish TAS through the whole game? Maybe beating it with like 16 stars? I'm sure it'd rock everybody's socks if it was up to par in quality with what I've just seen. ^^
