I get it, so I've found the solution to a different problem. That's still something. :p Actually the mistake I made was to assume that >50% votes are needed. That reminds me of those countless times I got a worse grade just because I cannot read... It's so unfair. :X

The wildest one starts. He has one vote (his own), needs to get at least 5 more votes to stay alive. The least wild one is likely to vote against him because the more pirates die, the more he gets and he himself has no risk of dying. The second wildest pirate will probably vote for him because he fears he could be the next one to die. So pirate 1 won't give anything to pirate 2 and probably also nothing to pirate 10. How does he distribute the money so he gets 4 more votes to stay alive? Idk, this problem is too much for me. x_X Edit: After thinking about it for a bit... If there are 2 pirates (9 and 10), the least wildest (10) gets all the money or pirate 9 dies. So if there are 3 pirates (8, 9 and 10) and pirate 8 decides to give pirate 9 one coin, pirate 9 will vote for him because he gets more than nothing that way. So for 2 pirates: 0 - 100 For 3 pirates: 99 - 1 - 0 Now if there are 4 pirates (7,8,9 and 10) pirate 10 will vote yes as long as he gets more than 0 coins. Pirate 9 needs more than 2. Pirate 8 more than 99. Pirate 7 needs 3 votes. For 4 pirates: 97 - 0 - 2 - 1 5 pirates - 3 votes needed... Brackets say how many votes needed Bolded pirates will vote yes. For 1 (1): xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - 100 For 2 (2): xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - 00 - 100 For 3 (2): xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - 99 - 01 - 00 For 4 (3): xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - 97 - 00 - 02 - 01 For 5 (3): xx - xx - xx - xx - xx - 97 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 02 For 6 (4): xx - xx - xx - xx - 96 - 00 - 01 - 02 - 01 - 00 For 7 (4): xx - xx - xx - 96 - 00 - 01 - 02 - 00 - 00 - 01 For 8 (5): xx - xx - 95 - 00 - 01 - 02 - 00 - 01 - 01 - 00 For 9 (5): xx - 95 - 00 - 01 - 02 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 01 For 0 (6): 94 - 00 - 01 - 02 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 01 - 01 - 00 Am I rite? Yes, I haven't found a formula, but an algorithm.

Yea, a very cool song indeed. ^^ I wish I could write songs half that great. It has true smash hit potential, lol. Sounds like a song X Japan could have played. And yea, I'm only saying so because it mixes piano with guitars. >_< Would it be too much to ask for the Guitar Pro version of this song?

Thanks. That's actually a remake of the original song I made, which is probably even dreamier: http://kapsi.fi/~warp/Sunshine.v1.0.mp3 For another dreamy song of mine: http://kapsi.fi/~warp/Laulu.v1.0.mp3
While I don't consider these to be bad, I must say I liked the remake tons better. It has more of a unique character to it, it puts me in a kind of trancy and relaxing state. Sorry if I sound like I'm exaggerating, I just really like it, lol.

I still think it's a bad idea to keep improvements secret to make the final run contain more surprises, if you know others are working on that game too. It's a bit egoistic and contra-productive imo.

I've also learnt how to play the guitar by myself. I mainly play unplugged with my e-guitar and since I've always liked synth sounds I also own a guitar synthesizer. I usually spend about 3-5 hours a day "practicing".

The thing about being forced to do something you like is that you stop concentrating on doing it to satisfy yourself and get more and more into doing it to satisfy somebody else. It also forces your style into a specific direction, and it's not so much about personal development anymore, but about getting closer to certain standards. Sorry about having forgotten about adelikat and Warp.

Wow, I totally love it. I've always liked dreamy pianoesque songs. Very inspiring. ^^

Does anybody here do so? Like playing an instrument? I only know about JXQ and of course there's the Bisqwit's music page. I believe speedrunning and making music are pretty similar. Both topics are somewhat related to speed, striving for perfection and artistic freedom. Playing an instrument would be more similar to running on a console, while using music making programs or synthesizers would be closer to TASing imo. I personally spent a lot of time with FL back in the days. Then I started speed running Sonic Advance 2, which had been more fun. The next step was TASing, but I've never finished a single run. And now, I've found playing the guitar to be what I enjoy most out of these (imo) very similar leisure activities. How about you?

Mocking may be benefiting, but keeping improvements secret if you're not the only one working on a game?

This is exactly as true as the statement "the vast majority of people are immature." Which is not to say it is false, just that the link between gaming and (im)maturity is tenuous at best.
Agreed.

What kind of confusion? I guess you wanted to say "to make people know that I was the first to discover it".

which means any poll can theoretically be won just by having enough people directly affiliated with the option, perverting the majority rule and defeating the purpose of a poll in the first place
I might have got this wrong, but are you saying it is bad if people who get an advantage by voting are allowed to vote? And boredom and ethnical reasons are the only valid reasons to cast a vote? This would be what I would call perverting the majority rule. Sorry if I've misinterpreted you. It is a perverted concept anyway imo. People are allowed to vote, but are often not allowed to decide what options there are to vote for. And secondly, it puts extroverted leader-types at an advantage. (not really true for small internet polls like this one though) If Bill who stays at home all day casts a vote, the chances are next to nil that it will change anything. He could as well stay home. What would be if all people thought like that? But the thing is, Bill's decision does have no effect on other people's decisions, whether he goes voting or not. However, the votes of those guys in the bars who have an influence on their social circle seem to count a lot more. They can change the opinion of their whole village by (subconsciously) exerting peer pressure. I don't know the solution to that problem, but it definitely exists. (the problem)

I always was against the option that authors can vote for their own TASes. This is just pointless due to the obvious bias of them, so prohibiting authors from voting would definitely result in a more valid and cleaner poll.
I don't get how this would make the poll more valid. If every author votes for himself, nothing changes. If one votes against his own run, for whatever reason, he can do so. Prohibiting them from voting is like forcing them to vote for their own runs. But I like the idea of hiding the votes a lot. ^^

I just wanted to point out that it's not possible to know what would have happened if JXQ had voted for his run. And I gave an example to explain why. Also note how I said "not too unlikely" (to be ignored) instead of "quite probable". No need to argue about it though, it's not important anyways.

{[.]6 A, B., >}37 < Something like this would maybe be nice. Press A every 7th frame, B every second frame starting with the first, while walking right. Do that for 37 frames, press back every 38th frame and repeat from the beginning.

Have you never heard of the secrecy of the ballot? ;)

Or JXQ could just have voted for his own run and SM would have won despite being down 2-1 in author votes.
I disagree. What if there was somebody who saw them having an equal number of votes? And he didn't vote, but he would have voted if Metroid had had one vote more. The result would have been the same and I think this scenario isn't too unlikely.

Playing video games makes you happy, but it serves little purpose in the long run. A lot of people who are afraid of life spend lots of time playing video games. So there's a big number of immature people among video game "freaks", including myself. I won't judge you on that matter. :p I'd even go as far as saying that the vast majority of gamers are immature. However, this is just my personal opinion, based on my very personal experiences. I guess I should also add that I don't have any problem with people being immature. You are right about the fact that I should go somewhere else (leave this topic). Please let me do that by ignoring this post. Trying hard and failing can motivate others to show that they can do better. So everything that somebody does to find the fastest route can help.

That is a very clever and funny idea of you. Why do you need to insult me though? I didn't intend to insult you with my post. I just wanted to point out that it's a bit hypocritical to bring up the topic of immaturity on a forum about video games. I'm sorry to make another off topic post in this thread, I shouldn't have made that first post.

There's two things I didn't get. 1) Why the Tentacool? 2) Why isn't it faster to got to the Safari Zone the second time before getting the Secret Key? Edit: I guess I've found the answer to the first question myself. It's done to skip the second Snorlax. Stupid me..

Though I'd personally have no use for the movie id, some other users would, you're making a good point.

Then why use a "made up version #" ? Wouldn't it make more sense to use the movie number?
Because Bisqwit said he doesn't want to. Also, why use 5 characters, if it can also be done by 3? I don't care for the date, nor do I care for the movie id when I'm searching for a file. Of course it wouldn't be good to include that made up version# into the database. But I'd include it into the file names to make searching for movie files as user friendly as possible.
